We live in Mill Valley, California, and she was based in Santa Rosa -- just close enough that we felt comfortable, but far enough that we knew Gizmo would have plenty of space to run around and really settle into the program.

We have a six-year-old Australian Shepherd and an eight-month-old Australian Shepherd who both needed solid training -- plus we have a newborn, so finding the right person to handle things in one shot was a must.

We're absolutely thrilled with Lindsey and all the work she did with Gizmo, our intact puppy. Working with an unfixed dog is no small task! He ended up staying with her for about a month, and her property was perfect, with tons of room in the backyard where he could run and play. She also trains guide dogs for the blind, which made us feel even more confident that he was in the hands of the best of the best.

One thing that really stood out was that Lindsey handled pickup and drop-off herself. It was such a relief -- especially with a newborn at home -- and seeing that she had proper crates in her vehicle made us feel even better knowing he was being transported safely and professionally.

She sent us biweekly updates, was always responsive, and truly made the whole "sending your dog away" part so much easier. Of course we missed him and would prefer to have him with us always, but Lindsey kept us informed and genuinely made us feel good about the experience.

She was incredibly patient, walking us through everything we needed to know -- because let's be honest, sometimes we need just as much training as the dogs, lol.

In this Trainer Talk with owners Ray and Bridget Murphy, Jefforson Simmons breaks down why reinforcing bad behaviors can hold dogs back from real progress.

Reinforcing unwanted behaviors—even unintentionally—teaches dogs to repeat the habits we’re trying to change. Attention, treats, or inconsistent responses can strengthen behaviors like barking, jumping, and leash pulling, making them far tougher to resolve. Dogs need clarity and consistency, and when a negative behavior “works,” it quickly becomes ingrained.

By rewarding the right choices and setting clear, reliable boundaries, we can help dogs become more balanced, confident, and easier to live with, creating a smoother training experience for both dogs and their owners.

Azura recently graduated from Koru K9’s 4-Week Board and Train program with Shane Pierson in Seattle, Washington. Over the past month, she made tremendous progress through a personalized training plan tailored to her specific behavioral needs.

Her program focused on addressing aggression, reactivity, and food or resource guarding, helping her develop safer and more confident responses in everyday situations. Azura also worked on improving her dog neutrality and learning to coexist calmly around other dogs, building the skills needed for predictable and stable interactions.

Another key area of training was reducing her high prey drive, particularly her strong fixation on smaller animals and certain dog breeds. Through structured guidance and consistent reinforcement, Azura learned how to manage her impulses and redirect her focus more reliably.

We loved working with Azura and her family and are excited to see her continue growing and succeeding at home.
