Kat's Kritters Rescue We help stray and unwanted animals by providing veterinary care and permanent sanctuary to animals that may not be candidates for adoption.

We are a 100% volunteer based organization that strives to help animals in need. Whether an animal ends up at a local pound or is found as a stray trying to survive on it’s own, we want to do what we can to assist. While the initial plan was to operate out of foster homes where the animal can reside in a safe, loving environment while they await adoption to a forever home, lack of committed and re

liable foster homes has changed the rescue into more of a shelter facility operated out of our rescue founder’s home. In October 2016, an 8 acre rural property and home south of Sperling, MB was purchased by Kathy and rescue operations were relocated there. All animals in our care are seen by a veterinarian and will be spayed/neutered, tattooed, vaccinated, and dewormed prior to adoption. We operate on a small scale and can only take in new animals when we have space at the shelter or an appropriate foster home available and when we are in a position financially to provide the supplies and care necessary. Kat’s Kritters is unique in that we offer a cage free environment where animals in our care can live enriching lives, learn from other animals, and progress at their own pace. Please consider donating and/or volunteering to help us on this journey to save lives. We are a unique rescue in that we make a commitment to each animal that comes into our care and strive to find each animal the forever home best suited to it’s individual needs, regardless of how long that takes. We take our time getting to know each individual animal and do not rush them through our system. While we may not take in and adopt out large numbers of animals each year, every animal in our care receives the absolute best quality of life. After they have been fully cleared by our veterinarians, all animals are given an opportunity to de-stress in our Director’s home in a rural, cage free environment. Dogs co-habitate and socialize with other dogs, and cats join one of three free range rooms where they can interact with other cats. In 2020, the rescue began transitioning away from an adopting rescue and towards a Sanctuary for animals that are deemed “unadoptable” for reasons of behaviour or health. These animals will live out their lives at the rescue or in a permanent foster situation. We will continue to seek adoptive homes for our more adoptable Kritters, including transfer to adopting rescues we trust, but are continuing our shift towards offering an enriching, high quality life on a permanent basis for those most in need. We will also continue to expand our Community Services, to help animals and their owners in various ways through outreach programs. We are always in need of monetary and supply donations to keep us in operation! Contact us for details on how you can help and be part of making a difference in the lives of animals in need!

Hi everyone. 👋 I'm still here! Sorry for the lack of engagement in recent weeks. Both of my own senior dogs have been struggling with medical issues, and when a number of clients canceled their January bookings, I elected not to fill those boarding spaces so that I could focus on caring for my boys (along with the many animals that reside here through Kat's Kritters Rescue, while also battling winter on my own out here).

Sadly, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to help my sweet Cody cross the rainbow bridge yesterday. 💔 He was 14 or 15 years old (there has always been some discrepancy about his true age). Cody was one of the first dogs your dog would be introduced to when they came to board with me. He was an excellent judge of character and never considered himself a small dog, always keeping up with the big dogs and joining all the outdoor adventures. While Cody was only a permanent member of my fur family for the past 7 years, I have known him most of his life as I originally adopted him out from a shelter I used to work at after he was surrendered at just a year old. I then boarded him for his family for several years before he came to stay with me on a permanent basis. I will miss him greatly.

I apologize to anyone I haven't been able to accommodate recently. I appreciate your patience as I ease back into full time boarding again.

Owl is grateful to be safe indoors and hopes all the homeless and abandoned cats out there are managing to survive this winter. Please do what you can to help any animals you come across during yet another cold snap over the next several days. Our Story

Kat’s Kritters Rescue was founded in January 2014. Our Director, Kathy, had worked in an animal shelter previously and saw the huge need in the area for more support for homeless animals, so she founded Kat’s Kritters Rescue out of her home. The rescue has since relocated twice, and continues to be operated from Kathy’s 8 acre rural home/property, which was purchased in fall 2016.

We are a 100% volunteer based organization that strives to help animals in need. Whether an animal ends up at a local pound or is found as a stray trying to survive on it’s own, we want to do what we can to assist. While the initial plan was to operate out of foster homes where the animal can reside in a safe, loving environment while they await adoption to a forever home, lack of committed and reliable foster homes has changed the rescue into more of a shelter facility operated out of our rescue founder’s home. Our Director is a long time vegetarian and a vegan since early 2018. Kat's Kritters Rescue believes that all animals, not just companion animals, deserve our respect and love. All events will serve food that is vegetarian and/or vegan and we will not exploit animals in any way to raise funds. Our hope is to extend our compassionate views towards animals to our followers and to foster respectful public dialogue. We recognize the value of all animals and desire to do our part to reduce animal suffering.
