Fabulous opportunity for some one

The lovely Caroline... growing stronger and finding her balance better on her hind leg all the time. Work with her has been focussed on teaching her to carry herself and use her big engine in balance. Now she has all the basics established, very secure balanced counter canter, easy leg yield in trot and canter and is starting shoulder in which she already knows well from the in hand work. This young horse has been started correctly and slowly and will be an amazing partner for a lucky rider!

NEW FOR 2020! So from 2020 I will be stocking and selling the amazing Bomber bits and VIP gel pads!
I believe in these products so much that I use them with my own horses..... In particular Bomber bits have solved the problem of horses and ponies who dislike tongue pressure and the quality of their bits is second to none. The VIP pad is an amazingly effective pad which because of its thinness can be used with all saddles and even with a fluffy half pad. I will be offering bitting consults and opportunities to try the pad.....

Dressage Today

Great advice!

"From the beginning of the young horse's education, I want him to reach with his neck, his nose in front of the vertical, to receiving hands.

With the current concern over roundness and riding deep and low, I think that's been forgotten. Expert riders often can ride a horse deep so he still reaches for the hand, but many riders can't, and they frequently do it wrong.

Before we worry about the roundness of the young horse's neck, he needs to be strong and have all the pieces of the puzzle that make an upper-level horse, including balance with weight on the hind legs, suppleness and straightness. He becomes round as a result of these factors."

Read more from Carole Grant and learn how riding your horse with a longer neck can help make him more rideable.

In the UK and some appointments available on Sunday and Wednesday - message me to book!

This post is not to criticise individual riders but these pictures are both 'For Sale' pictures of young horses on FB. It's so sad to see pictures like this which are presumably supposed to show the horse at its best for sale. We must do everything we can to educate riders about the physical and mental damage done to horses when they are ridden like this.....and to emphasise the difficulty their new owners will have to undo the effects of this style of riding......

Wow this is fascinating...,..

Veterinary News, There is undisputed evidence to show that owners, riders and trainers have a poor ability to recognise signs of pain manifest as lameness when horses are ridden. Approximately 47% of sports horses in regular work and assumed to be sound have pain-related gait abnormalities. In a dre...

Oklahoma Equine Hospital

This is fascinating - particularly the link to Autism in children....how amazing if we could find a way to identify and help these children at birth! xx

SEIZING FOAL SAVED

This foal was recently admitted to OKlahoma Equine Hospital under the most dire of circumstances.

WARNING: some scenes may be disturbing.

This foal was born on a Wednesday night. It was soon apparent things were not right. The owners lived many hours from any veterinary facility and worked tirelessly for days and nights to get this foal to stand and nurse. Despite their best efforts things were heading down hill fast.

On Saturday morning this foal was admitted to the hospital. Dr. Jessi Arnold & her team at OEH went to work, but the prognosis was grave.

His vital signs were ominous. His IgG level was 27. His body temperature was dangerously low. He was in septic shock. He was seizing.

It was necessary to use the Madigan foal squeeze technique 3 times along with intense nursing care over a 24 hour period to save this foal.

This is a video description.

H&H question of the week: My horse has been diagnosed with kissing spines — how do I manage it and what should I expect? - Horse & Hound

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/features/hh-question-week-horse-diagnosed-kissing-spines-manage-expect-592897?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social

At last some sense about kissing spines.....note that 34% of horses show kissing spine changes on X-Ray with NO clinical signs of pain or poor behaviour.... Indicating that for some horses the changes seen may just be part of a normal ageing process.... This adds weight to my belief that many horses are incorrectly diagnosed with kissing spines when there may well be underlying issues causing the poor performance...and as a result the real cause is overlooked.....

Rick Farr B.Sc (Hons), B.V.Sc, MRCVS of Farr & Pursey Equine Veterinary Services gives his expert advice on kissing spines
