About The Cats of Purrwood
Purrwood Forest is a 501(c)(3) lifetime indoor/outdoor sanctuary for unwanted cats rescued from “high risk” situations. The sanctuary is located on our partially wooded, middle of nowhere property in North Texas. This is also our personal home so we do not accept visitors or share our address publicly. There are currently 40+ cats living here protected by Great Pyrenees dogs. Because we do not do adoptions and cats that come here stay here and require lifetime care which incurs lifetime expenses, we do not accept owner surrenders. We are not a traditional “rescue”... we are a last resort for cats on “death row” who would be otherwise put to sleep forever. We give the cats that no one else wants, or that no one else can handle, a last chance opportunity to live out their lives un-caged.
We currently have two heated shelters (in addition to our house): 1) Our garage/workshop, which has been fitted with cat doors and a large barrel stove for heat in the winter as well as several heated cat houses and plenty of beds, and 2) A “Senior Center” that is fully climate controlled and houses a group of elderly and semi-special needs cats that we took in from Barn Cats, Inc., as they were unable to be placed in a traditional “barn” environment. In addition to running Purrwood Forest, which is a full time job for both my husband and myself, I am also a work-at-home wife & mom, homeschooling our son, so our website www.PurrwoodForest.org is still a work in progress. I have a "to-do list" a mile long and hopefully I've got everything on it! Thank you so much for supporting the wayward cats of Purrwood!
