Haus of El - Sayge & Mayce

Krypto Zor-El (DoB 1/29/19) was rescued on 1/29/19 along with his mom and 2 brothers. Sayge - Rescued on 10/30/16 from Miami Dade Animal Services with a bad leg Sayge was taken to the vet for X Rays. It was determined that the leg was severely dislocated (from birth) and the femur had rotated backwards along with extensive scar tissue built up in the leg. It was to badly damaged so on 11/1/16 she

became a tripod. She had already acclimated from not being able to use the leg so removing it made it easier for her to walk and now run. The cone of shame was her enemy and she was happy to get it off. Thank goodness it did not mess up her ears. Sayge is in training to become a therapy dog to visit kids and anyone else that would want to meet her. Especially people who have lost limbs so they can see it is possible to live a good life and be happy. Sayge goes to rescue events representing the rescue that saved her to promoted Adopt Don't Shop, Spay and Neuter and to show people who want pure breeds that they can be found in the shelter. All dogs are special, but Sayge is as pure of heart as anyone could be. Her spirit after all she has been through is outstanding....

Mayce - given to a shop owner at 8 weeks old and told by the breeder that he stepped on her leg and that is why she walked funny…. but that she would be fine in a few days. The shop owner took her to vet who did X-rays and sold him joint supplements but did nothing else. She was dragging herself around his shop (with no puppy vaccines) and having potty accidents. The shop owner didn’t know what to do and was going to take her to Miami Dade Animal Services. One of his employees took a video of her and sent it to a family member in dog rescue who posted it on her page. This person tagged a mutual rescue friend of One By One Dog Rescues special needs foster. Two hours later on 9/3/21 at 9 weeks old Mayce was safe with One By One Dog Rescue and upon seeing the X-rays the first vet did we were able to determine that due to backyard breeding and neglect Mayce was born with no hip sockets and her back legs had fused straight. There is no cure. One ortho wanted to do a bilateral FHO on a 9 week old puppy. We declined. Other ortho wants to wait and see how her muscles develop & then potentially do a bilateral FHO. She essentially already has one since no sockets so we are just working on strengthening the muscles while she grows. She learning how to be a proper German Shepherd puppy. She has no fear and is the sweetest girl. She has a Spicy attitude hense the name Mayce. Krypto - This is a long and crazy story! I went to pull another tripod German Shepherd that was having trouble waking up from anesthesia. While we were sitting in the rescue office they got a call. The girl was talking about the mom not lactating and they didn’t know what they were going to do. When she hung up... my daughter (who has been rescuing with me for 7 years) asked her “are they puppies?”... (keep in mind I had just adopted out my 6 pups I had bottle fed since the age of 5 days... it’s why I was rescuing a 6 yr old tripod to take a break).... rescue lady says yes. That a 9 yr old mommy dog had been dumped by owner with distended abdomen... while they were wheeling her back for surgery she gave birth to Krypto (why he has a super dogs name).. by giving birth it saved the lives of all the pups. Had they got her back to surgery and opened her up they would have terminated the pups.. so they put her back in her kennel to labor and a couple hours later they had to do emergency csection and pulled 2 more out. While they had her open they spayed her (at her age they didn’t want to do surgery twice) so bc of spay she wasn’t lactating. I asked what breed and was told Maltese. I said ok since little (because I was taking the 6 yr old tripod shepherd too, small house).. turns out when owner dumped the mom they put an adoption hold on her for 3 days later (they wanted free surgery).. rescues can’t trump an adoption hold so here I had full ownership of the pups but not the mom. I went to director and everyone and couldn’t bypass it. They made an exception and let me “foster” her for 3 days. During this time we begged the owner to let me just “borrow her” that she could come see her but to please let her be with her pups bc she had started to lactate and was such a good mommy. No luck, so at 3 days old I had to take mom away back to animal services. I bottle fed the 3 boys and let them sleep in my bra. The next day the “owner” called animal services and said they couldn’t afford the mandatory follow up vet visit and brought he back to animal services... I was notified and went as fast as I could to get her back... she was so happy to be home. She nursed her babies until they were 8 weeks old and then she got adopted. Krypto and my daughter developed a close bond (her name is Kara) and I let her keep him since her brother was going off to college... he is her best friend and they have been together since he was 3 hours old...
