ADVENT DAY 4
Telyn is Monty's third partner in nine years, all of whom have been Rutland-born females: Nora (White 03(08)) and Glesni (Blue 12(10)), being the first two.
It's a great testament to the work our fellow Wildlife Trust in Leicestershire and Rutland have done since the mid-90s, not only to start an osprey population there, but also to facilitate an osprey population in Wales.
The first ever pair to successfully breed in Wales was in Montgomeryshire (2004), the male was Rutland's White 07(97). The Glaslyn pair also had a Rutland bird to start things off - the male there was Ochre 11(98).
Blue 24 is also a Rutland bird, she currently breeds in Llyn Brenig and our very own Clarach, a Rutland grand daughter, has settled with yet another fellow Wildlife Trust, Scottish Wildlife Trust.
Many other Wildlife Trusts around the UK are also putting nesting platforms up and encouraging the osprey population to grow in the hope that eventually the current pockets of osprey colonies in the UK will ultimately become one continuous population, including, hopefully, in Ireland.
If you're looking for a non-plasticy, non hype-driven Christmas present this year that's also good for the environment, you could do a lot worse than join your local Wildlife Trust where you live in the UK.
The UK Wildlife Trusts are proud to be spearheading UK osprey conservation in the 21st century :-)
