It may be hot outside, but the chinchillas are nice and cool inside. The thought of losing AC power during a heat wave is terrifying. And it's happened before. I am thankful that our system is holding up during this weather!

We've been working so hard on processing apple and pear wood that some of our most popular toys have gone out (and in, and out again) of stock while we juggle tasks. On a more positive note, we now have a literal half ton of wood processed and stored safely away in an air conditioned environment. With more to come! Our select woods of choice are only $20/lb. Did you know? Our online webstore funds our rescue. We do not receive any government assistance. Chew toys and cage accessories don't expire. Many times we encourage folks to stock up and fill a box to best utilize the higher starting shipping rate. Tiny orders have a large baseline shipping cost. We can typically fill a box with up to 5x more product with no additional shipping charge. So rather than give USPS as much as 40% of the amount of your order, please consider your chinchilla's upcoming needs. Filling a box will help you save on shipping expense, help your fur baby by having plenty of chew things on hand, and help our shelter with operation costs.

It’s a good day for an adoption! Alison and Karli are previous adopters, so they came with plenty of experience for one of our more challenging pairs. Fern (extra dark ebony) is extra sensitive and needed a special touch. Karli is calm and soothing, a personality trait, that Fern appreciates. I’m so happy to see these girls going to the perfect home. thank you Alison and Karli! Fern and Lily were adopted today!

This week Maria brought in her newly single chinchilla for bonding. She was concerned about Kristoff being lonely. So far things are going great with both Blondie and Cheeky. Here they are exploring a neutral cage together for the first time.

It’s a good day for an adoption! Normally we post pictures, but I had to get a video to share with you one of the cutest things I’ve seen in a long time. When I told the prospective new owners that bouncing a struggling chinchilla like a baby helps calm them down, Craig took me very seriously. Not only did this family have the special chinchilla touch, they also had the rare and much appreciated tender hearts to take in two of our least likely to be adopted. Both girls are seniors and one is a tripod. Thank you Alison, Craig and Karli! Raye and Yardstick were adopted today!

The wild deer population at the farm think our baby mulberry trees are delicious. So we've turned to erecting a 7 foot tall fence to keep the leaf browsers out of the orchard. Ever the frugal individual, Whimsy and her second in command have taken the weekend to build the fence. This machine is called a 1-man earth drill. The deer just stood along the treeline, eating popcorn and laughing at us. The chinchillas were not amused.

The who and why

We began our venture as a homeschool project to fill an unusual need. Chinchilla specific rescue, support, care and supplies were something sadly lacking. Often people were (and still are) given information via medical professionals, pet stores and the internet that is not only wrong, but sometimes downright harmful! With the help of dozens of special education students, we partner with the hope to provide education and supplies that are most importantly, for the chinchillas and secondarily, for you.
