I hope you are all well and staying safe. Just a little update as I’ve been getting some messages lately. I am still closed at the moment and enjoying spending time as a family.

As many of you have noticed I have been very absent from Dog House Delights!
A few of you knew our journey to become a family and about our miscarriage and our struggles.

I’m very proud to announce to you all our little IVF miracle - Lilah.

At the moment my little family comes first and I hope to be back baking in the future. Thank you all so very much for the years of support. I had many regular customers who became friends.

New Years Eve might be a party on two legs, but on four, it might just be the most frightening night of the year. In fact, the number of lost and injured pets increases by 400%. But there are ways to manage the fear brought on by fireworks and it starts now! Here’s what you can do...

1. Go for a solid walk (or run) in the late afternoon if it’s cool enough to do so. This exercise lowers anxiety levels, releases relaxing endorphins and makes them more inclined to sleep.

2. Bring pets inside. Those fireworks bangs will make them want to bolt for it so a fence will often be no match and tying them up only increases the risk of choking.

3. Put blinds down, lights on and put music on. Research has shown that classical music is best. This is all about blocking out those stressful sights and sounds.

4. Put a load of washing on. Preferably a long cycle. These familiar and repetitive vibrations from the washing machine drown out the vibrations from the fireworks that are a huge source of stress.

5. Give them a place to hide. Dogs will want to ‘den’ so a pile of cushions, pillows or old mattresses they can lie in amongst will give them all the calming vibes.

What about cats? While they don’t enjoy the fireworks, they’re more inclined to seek shelter rather than take flight like dogs. Keep them inside and they’ll love you forever.

HOT HOT HOT.....that is the Forecast for most of Australia... today and the coming days, animals suffer this time including our wildlife

Recommend, keep your dogs inside on cool mats, tiles flooring if you don't have air con, plenty of drinking water that must be cool, if you see any signs of stress contact a vet ASAP......
Walking is a no no not only is it hot but roads and footpaths, crush rock is red hot, dogs sweat through the pads on their feet, and they do burn easily.

Be mindful of dogs around water, like children should be supervised as drowning is also a possibility on these days :)

Where possible leave water out for wildlife and birds so they also can hydrate and keep cool. :) B2

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING 🌩️

Weather in NSW is far from mild. From one extreme to the other, it’s important to prepare for the worst and make sure your pet is ready for any weather situation.

This morning, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning for parts of NSW. Make sure you keep your pets safe and happy during this extreme weather and read our top tips below!

✅ Make sure that your pets microchip details are up to date. Unlike you, your pets can have a difficult time finding their way back home after accidentally running off.

✅ Bring your pets inside. If they are still scared inside the house, take them to a small, safe space like a laundry or bathroom and sit with them to help them calm down – making sure to show calm behaviour and body language throughout the storm.

✅ Leave the TV or radio on to mask any sounds and close blinds/curtains. Also, remove any sharp objects that might cause injury to a panicking animal.

✅ During a flood warning, make sure you have a portable pet carrier or appropriate harness/leash ready. Put all documentation, such as vet’s details and microchip number, in a sealed bag, and move all food, bedding and water to a safe and dry location.

⚠️ HEAT WARNING: IT’S GONNA BE A HOT ONE!

Temperatures are set to soar over the next couple of days! Living in NSW means there’s lots of sun and fun, but also a few dangers for you and your furry friends to think about. Check out our top tips below!

💧 HYDRATE – Ensure your pets have access to plenty of cool, fresh water at all times.

⛱️ COOL OFF IN THE SHADE – Make sure your pet has access to shade and, if possible, consider bringing them inside if you have air conditioning or a fan.

🐾 WAIT TO WALK – Avoid taking your pooch for a walk during the middle of the day when temperatures peak. Remember: if you can’t leave your hand on the pavement for longer than 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your pooch. Just like people, animals can hurt their feet on hot surfaces too!

☀️ BE SUN SAFE – Slip, slop, slap! Especially if your pet is white, as they have a higher risk of skin cancer. Make sure to pop on some doggy sunscreen (like Fezzik below) if going out in the sun, and keep your kitties indoors.

❄️ CONSIDER FREEZING TREATS – Letting your pets play with frozen ice cubes is a fun way to help them cool down. You can also freeze some treats overnight in a container of water and let your pets lick them free! Kibble and dry treats work best with this trick!

❌ DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS IN THE CAR – It can only take 6 minutes for a dog to die in a hot car. Never leave your pets unattended in a car.

If you believe your pet is experiencing any health problems as a result of heat, please contact your local veterinarian as soon as possible.

This year there are a few changes to the Christmas packs!

We have lamb puff cubes, chicken and liver dental chews and a chicken chew stick.

These are in replacement of some of last years treats. What size pack you pick, will determine what treats are included.
