Who We Are

Pet Awareness and Welfare Society

PAWS for SJACS is an all volunteer group. We work closely with San Jose Animal Care and Services and local rescues to help provide adoptable, homeless animals with non-routine medical care; additional aid is provided through specially funded PAWS for SJACS programs, such as spay/neuter, animal assistance projects, and community outreach. Donations mad

e through this website and to our group, help provide medical care to animals that have a relationship with SJACS (eg. rescued from the shelter, through A*O intervention with a case number, have an A #) and are non-hospice, non-reclaim status. Your donations provide these animals with needed medical care and help them get healthy as we find them forever homes.

PAWS for SJCS has been very involved in helping get dog and cat pets spayed and neutered (S/N). We have a voucher program that provides some assistance and also we have been funding the SNIPBUS. This is needed,as since COVID there have been limited low cost S/N options. It's particularly important for the large dogs, as it's gotten very costly for larger pets at private Vets. Please consider helping us keep fixing these animals that need it to keep our population in check, donations are tax deductible.

PAWS has branched out with SJACS to provide Purina One Kitten (POK) for their foster program. POK is a bit more palatable to the kittens and yet still delicate on the GI track. And the kittens are thriving. With hundreds of kittens in foster, SJACS is going thru it fast and any support to help us provide is appreciated.

PAWS currently only raises funds to use for animals at the San Jose Shelter from our Vaccine Clinic. We don't make a lot of money but would like people to knonw that the money we did raise also helps with our spay/neuter voucher program. Since we started the cat voucher program in August of 2021 we have spent $21400 on cat spay/neuters. Since Covid began in March of 2020 we have spent $45,950 on dog spay/neuters. Our vaccine cliinic is all run with volunteers, so all proceeds go back to the voucher programs and the animals at the San Jose shelter.

PAWS for SJACS, is assisting St. Francis Animal Protection Society with supplies - Food, mats, blankets, and toys - who are helping the homeless with their pets (see the happy pets pics!). St Francis is working hard to get the pets fixed, vaccinated, and other medical as needed; and the daily needs also are being improved by our assistance. Donations to help with their medical needs always appreciated, as are physical donations, contact us and we can work out receiving.

No-cost Trap—Neuter—Return appointments for community cats are available now — BOOK ONLINE at bit.ly/sjacs-tnr

The first appointments available are on April 4th. Ten appointments will be available each day, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Cats must be trapped in San José, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino, or Milpitas — owned cats will not be accepted. In order to provide equitable access to TNR spay/neuter services, we limit residents to two appointments per week and one cat per appointment.

Thank you to Bay Area Cats and all the volunteer trappers working with us for the past 10 weeks to target colonies of concern.

PAWS For SJACS just transported to the San Jose Sheler 95 new collars, harnesses, and leashes that Petsmart Campbell kindly donated to us, to distribute how we saw fit. SJACS is thrilled to get the much needed variety of sizes (from small to XXL) to help outfit dogs as they are adopted. This insures they will have the proper equipment and not just slip collars.

🐶 EXTRA Special Valentine Needed 🐶
BooBoo Bear (A1287639) is EXTRA in all ways. His love bites are the stuff of legends. BooBoo is an extra large puppy with extra large needs. BooBoo is looking for a Valentine that can make him the center of their universe. He loves people and craves attention, and is good with other dogs. BooBoo Bear has taken puppy awkwardness to a new level with his total lack of self-awareness, and to say BooBoo needs training is like saying water is wet. He is not housebroken and has No bite inhibition — and ooh those puppy teeth are sharp. It is like having a baby shark in the house. BooBoo Bear is epileptic and will need to be on medication for his lifetime. If you are looking for a new man in your life to spend every minute with — then BooBoo Bear is your guy. To meet BooBoo Bear, please email [email protected].

🐶 Tanner 🐶
Tanner is the other puppy that did not get a fur-ever home during Friday's puppy-paloza. Tanner is an older puppy in need of an owner committed to putting the time into training. He is not the best choice for a first-time dog owner.

We know that it is currently very hard to make appointments for lower cost spay/neuters. With this in mind we are sponsoring a spay/neuter for San Jose Residence with SnipBus which is located in Monterey County. July 26 it will be in Prunedale. We have reserved spots on that day for San Jose Residents only. You still pay a fee for the spay/neuter.

Betty White would have been 100 today. She passed away last week. She always worked with and for animal rescues. That was an important part of her life.
Upon her death many said to honor her, on her 100th birthday to donate $5 to a rescue in her honor.

We are asking you to do this for PAWS to help with all that we do for the animals of the San Jose Animal shelter and those covererd by the animal shelter.

PAWS was proud to be a part of SJACS's Kitten Townhall meeting on Friday night 3/26.
For 2020 SJACS had a live release rate of 93% on kittens thanks to all SJACS and the Rescues efforts. The most obvious gap in saving kittens, is the Feral moms and kittens sector, especially with medical issues. PAWS is working hard to help with this effort, networking to find fosters. As a result we were able to get out a mom with 5 month old kittens, 3 of the kittens having significant eye issues, and without rescue would have been euthanized.
PAWSs looks forward to continuing to help with the feral mom's networking, with kitten food for SJACS foster kitties, cat scratchers, and other regular and special capital projects such as the portals to increase cage size for the comfort of the kittens.
Kitten season hit intensely just this week, and any one interested in fostering should let us know, and donations of course appreciated.

PAWS can not do walk up clinics under the current Covid restrictions. We have since April done drive by, assigned appointment clinics 3-5 times a month. We manage and run these clinics with volunteers only and all the appointments are done manually (we can't afford a program to do it) We do not post the dates or locations. We would like to thank all of the people that have volunteered their time to make sure that dogs and cats have been able to be vaccinated during this last year and especially puppies and kittens (that is why we decided we had to do these clinics.

PAWS bought 60 pet portals for the cats that are more long term at the shelter beause of medical needs. Holes are cut into the middle walls of the metal crates that the shelter alterady has. Then the plastic portal is put in the hole. These allow the cats more space to move around in.
