The cold weather has arrived.
If you plan on building a place for outdoor cats to sleep then remember the following
-use straw. NEVER hay. Hay retains moisture and results in mold and it freezes. Straw insulates.
-make sure the shelter has two entrances. This allows the animal to escape if a predator shows up.
-do not use blankets. Just like hay, blankets do not insulate and they also retain moisture and freeze.
-check out your local spca for shelters. Spca will often hand out shelters for free
-heated shelters are nice but are costly. But if you get a heated shelter, be sure not to add any blankets or hay still.

To add: living in the country is different. If I lived in the country, I'd def be having a barn cat program lol (fixed and happily fed).

So you want your city cat to be indoor/outdoor. In less than 20 hours 4 cats have been hit by a car in Kalamazoo/Portage. And those are just the ones some kind person posted about in the kalamazoo county lost/found page.
You don't let your beloved dog roam so why is your indoor/outdoor cat any different.
And don't say there is a difference. Go to any rescue and they can tell you the outcome of cats that are abandoned outside.
There are plenty of countries wherencan easily drive by 50 dogs in one day in the city because of the same mindset that is found here on cats, as well as lack of rescues and accountability for pet ownership. I've been to a country where dogs (stray and abandoned)were everywhere.

In our adoption forms/contract we require that our fosters will be indoor only cats. It took resources and time to get them off the streets and we will not allow them to go back.

We are happy to announce that Stella, now Erwina Schrödinger (Schrödi), and Lilly, now Marie Purrie (Marie), have both been adopted TOGETHER last night to their furever home.

We are thankful to J. Barrett Lee and his family for adopting the mother/daughter duo and growing their family with these 2. They will be missed but we know they will be well loved.

Now to prepare for the next fosters.

A good trick to get cats that are afraid of cat carriers is to only put their food inside the carrier. Leave the carrier open and comfy like such as a blanket in their area and put the food inside at meal times.
The fosters stella and lilly hate the carrier. But we've been getting them acclimated to this one as their adoption day is coming closer.

More progress :)
Found Lilly on my bed and she didn't run from me. She's still skittish but is putting up with us. I can easily pet her during feed times. She doesn't attack any of us and likes to be in the same room as us.

Excuse the horrible video. I was so shocked that Lilly not only didn't run away from for the 1st time BUT let me pet her for so long with zero hissing or nipping at me! My patience with her and my persistence to sit, talk, and pet her some every day I can is paying off!
This poor abandoned beauty since she was a tiny kitten has gone from stalking and attacking me to slowly letting humans love on her.
I'm sure her mom stella is happy with that because she was getting defensive for me whenever Lilly would get mad at me.
So yay to progress.
Which is just in time as they go to their new home mid August together!

Both are fixed, shots, dewormed, no fleas, fiv/felv negative, and microchipped.
Stella (2yrs) and Lilly (1yr) are doing great still and still looking for homes. We are no longer requiring that they be adopted together, but would prefer it if possible.
Stella loves snuggle on the coach or bed with you. She gets along with my kids and cats and puts up with (just hisses) at the dogs. She enjoys being scratched head to toe, especially on the nose. When she heads to the cat tower,.that's her saying she's down with being touched and needs a break.

Lilly is a work in progress but she's come a long way. She lets me pet her while she eats and likes to lay on the floor in the same room as me. She even lets me pick her up for a hot second lol. That's it at this point, but that's way farther from when she first arrived and would attack us in fear. She is a sweetheart.
I have a cat (siamese type) of my own that acted only as a decoration cat for 4 years and then she finally decided we could pet her anytime and snuggles with me. So decoration cats can definitely eventually come around.

It's been a hot second since any update on the fosters has been given. We've been busy with our own sick kid who ended up having surgery and then spent 5 days on vacay with her doctor's approval.
Stella and Lilly are doing great still and still looking for homes. We are no longer requiring that they be adopted together, but would prefer it if possible.

Available for adoption together. $80 total for them both. This cost goes right back into the foster fund. They are dewormed, no fleas, fixed, up to date on shots, and microchipped.
They are available after June 10. You are free to schedule to meet them if you want, just be warned they are still skittish around new people due to what they went through.
We thought previously they had main c**n in them now it seems they are mainly domestic long hair tabbies.
Stella (2yr old) and her daughter Lilly (est 10mon old) are both available for adoption.
They will need a home with no little kids. Lilly was abandoned as a kitten with her mom. She has big trust issues with people but she loves my quiet company and simple pets here and there. Stella likes to sit next with me on the couch and get belly rubs. They both have come far and they get along with my personal cats. They do not like my dogs or kids however and the noise of little ones frightens them. But they are a cute pair of floofs.
We've had these cats since March 20, helping them get used to being loved on and recieving pets ❤️

New arrivals today. These cute floofs are bonded female mainc**ns and roughly around 1yrs old. They were abandoned by their previous owner and I was called by the homes new tenant asking if I could take these cats instead of animal control. The new tenant had a hard time containing them b/c they have been alone for awhile in the house with 2 other cats. The mee tenant has their own pets and volunteered to keep 2 of the 4 cats on top their own. So that's awesome.
These 2 girls are scared/timid but they let me pet them. If interested please contact me.
They won't be available till they are fixed, shots, microchipped, tested, and such.

Turn up your volume to hear this lover boy, Mellow, purring up a storm ❤️ The fosters have been moved to quarentine inside. Once they are dewormed and no health issues then they can come out of quarantine.

The 3rd kitten made it onto the trap! So we went back out half way to meet the homeowner met us with him in the trap. He is now with his siblings. This puts at 4 fosters today. Trapping kittens! Also this handsome orange fella came right to my lap! Homeowner's report that the neighbors moved and left him. He is fixed and declawed and super lovable. Once he is checked over, dewormed, no fleas, and microchipped then he will be available for adoption!

These two floofs mother (stella) and daughter (lilly) are ready for adoption June 10! They are fixed, up to date on shots, microchipped, dewormed, and no fleas. Stella loves to relaxe in your lap and receive pets. Lilly is a bit more wary but enjoys me petting her. Both will let you know when they are done. They both love the company of my cats. Sorry for no recent posts, I had a big surgery recently. Lilly has come a long way and lets me pick her up. It helps that she's in heat, which allows me to get closer to her. They will both be getting fixed soon! Stella is a good sport as always. #cats #rescuecats
