From Fans to Friends - Freddie and Yee

For a long time Yee has been buying High5dogs for Freddie and she has always tagging us in all the pictures. Last year I was lucky to meet the two of them and we made some photos. The great news is, that Yee will be selling High5dogs in her shop in Yuen Long in Hong Kong from next week on!

For the next two weeks Whiskers N Paws have a popup store selling High5dogs in causeway bay! Together with Yum Me Play and the awesome WildAid they have a presence just outside Hysan Place. WildAid is collecting signatures to stop the trade in wild life! Please help sign and swing by to support!

Married - Alfie (11), Millie (11), Ken (50+) and Jeff (50+)
‘Alfie and Millie are husband and wife. About 5 years ago their previous owners got a divorce and they didn’t want to split Alfie and Millie up as well. But neither of them could take care of Alfie and Millie in their new situation, so we got them. As first time dog owners we are so happy for what they bring us: they really liven up the house and they get us out into nature every day, and when ever I say the word beach they are already at the door ready to go out. So we bring them here every day.’ 🐾

Broken - D9 (4) and Rocio (41)
‘Four and a half years ago, I slipped and broke my spine on the curb. We are from Catalunya and in Catalan we say that I broke my Denou #9. I was in hospital for many months to heal. While I was there I got the dog as a present to cheer me up and I called her D9 after my broken vertebra. Luckily now, everything goes well with both my D9’s.’🐾

‘These are actually not our dogs. We are just dog sitting for our boss who is out of town. Yes, we are all colleagues. Only Haak Tau is regina’s own dog, but she can only see him in the weekends. So we thought it would be nice to take them all out this Sunday.’🐾

‘My daughter named Blackie with IE when we adopted her. They had an adoption day along the water front and all the other pups were brown. Because she was black, she was not very popular. So we decided to bring her home. The kids love her and Blackie sleeps with them in their room. So in fact I now have three kids!’🐾

TLC - Saffie (5), Kat (45) and Doug (47)
‘She is a rescue from Kirsten’s Zoo here in Hong Kong. Her previous owners dumped her in the garbage bin and we think they tried to drown her too as she is abnormally scared of water. Originally we were only supposed to foster her. At that time she was quite a handful: she ate everything from the kitchen door to some Tom Ford sunglasses. But with an incredible amount of patience of our helper and lots of tender love and care she became the sweetest dog and as you can see we kept her because she is such a loving soul.’🐾

Lions and Elephants - Maddie(8) and Peter(35)
‘I am super surprised that she wants to come over and great you’ Peter says. ‘she normally is very scared of people as her first owner used to physically abuse her. But she is ok with lions and elephants.’ He starts laughing when he sees my surprise and continues: ‘I am a wildlife photographer and lived in Cambodia for a while. I took Maddie with me and on the animal sanctuary there she used to be very happy to play with all the animals that they were taking care of and they were ok with her too.’🐾

Dog sick - Lara (3), Yuki (2.5) Linette (29) and Othniel (30)
’I have always been a little afraid of dogs but Lynette’s golden retriever back in Singapore was so kind and gentle that it made me re-think my fear of dogs and made me re consider the fact that I could actually live with one.
When we eventually moved to Hong Kong, we first got Lara and she was such a beautiful loving friend, however we felt that she was a little lonely, so we got her a sister, Yuki. Who knew from not having a pet to having two of them! Just on our recent holiday in Spain where we were away for 10 days, 3 days into our holiday, we were missing the dogs badly and wanted to go back home. Now I am all about the dogs and we always try to find places that are dog friendly so we can take them with us. Having Lara and Yuki, is one of the best things that has happened in our lives.’🐾

Love goes through the stomach - Long Ya (12) YY(38) and Frederick (38)
‘Long Ya used to be my sister’s dog, but when she moved with her family to Japan, they didn’t want to have to put her in quarantine as she was already getting quite old. So we decided to take care of her. We don’t think she had any adjustment problems at all as all she cares for is food! So we give here snacks and she loves us unconditionally for that’🐾

Care - Ball Yi (5) and Mandy
‘Lok Lok, my previous dog had passed away about a year before I got Ball Yi from the SPCA. Ball Yi was not even a year old, but was given up when her previous owners got a new born baby. They probably did care about her, but felt that they couldn't take care of the baby and the dog at the same time. So when they brought her to the shelter they requested to that someone with experience with dogs would take her. I was ready for a new dog in my life, so I was happy to give her a new home.’🐾

‘ We brought back Ahmon from Australia where we lived before. Ahmon is Jaycie’s big brother. Every day they have their afternoon nap together. Except for today, because it is Chinese New Year and we are on a family outing.’ Jaycie’s dad Ricky tells me.🐾

Matchmaking - Lion (4), Sugar (4) and Jihee Han (30)

‘I am a bit embarrassed to say that we got Lion form a pet store. At that time we had no idea about puppy farms. Later, when we adopted Sugar to keep Lion company we were secretly hoping that they would hit it off and get puppies. It was a bit disappointing that they had no interest in each other but they do get along well and they go through life as a duo’🐾
