Merry Christmas

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1254

I wanted to wish everyone a very blessed and joyful Christmas, and also share an update on our sweet Timber. ❤️🐾

Overall, Timber has been doing wonderfully. We did have a few moments of concern when he started throwing up—something that might not alarm most dog owners, but with Timber, it immediately set off alarm bells. He was seen by our veterinarian, and we consulted closely with his Critical Care team at CVRC to be sure we were not missing anything. Scans and an ultrasound showed nothing new, his bloodwork was unremarkable, and his urinalysis was normal with no casts present. We added stomach medication, which has helped some, and over the last couple of days we adjusted his feeding schedule. So far, that seems to be helping, and we have not seen any new episodes.

We continue to be extra cautious with Timber given his history and liver issues. While we still don’t know what originally triggered those problems—and we know they may resurface one day—his liver values are currently all great. We will celebrate every single win with this beautiful boy. Our goal is to give Timber an amazing life: one where he is carefully monitored, but still gets to be a normal dog—sniffing, playing, and running outside with joy.

Timber would not be here today without your incredible support throughout his journey to survive and thrive. His miracles happened because you believed his life had meaning and value. He is here because you cared.

Thank you for your generous hearts and your selfless love for man’s best friend. 🐶❤️

Wishing you a very blessed holiday season from everyone at Noah’s Arks Rescue. 🎄✨

😢🐾 Brutally Injured Puppies Need Help NOW 🚑

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/arlo-guthrie

As it so often happens, when it rains, it pours—and right now it is raining tiny puppies who were brutally attacked by larger animals. Two critically injured puppies arrived at Beaufort County Animal Care Services at the same time, and I made the decision to take both of them. We have named them Arlo and Guthrie. Because they came in together and are both critical, they are being shared on one page for now until we get through the initial medical crises.

Both pups have been critical since the moment we took them in, and honestly, I wasn’t sure either would survive. That is why I waited until now to post about them. My focus was on getting them the very best care at CVRC in Charleston, where their surgeons and ICU Criticalists are among the best in the country.

Arlo, a 5-week-old, 5-pound chocolate Lab puppy, was part of a bottle-fed litter after their mother died shortly after birth. He was thriving until a much larger dog accidentally grabbed his head with a chew toy and crushed it. Arlo’s nasal passages, eye sockets, and frontal sinuses are crushed, with bone fragments now communicating with his brain, putting him at serious risk for infection, including bacterial meningitis. He also has significant eye trauma and a pseudomonas infection that we are treating very carefully due to his age. Despite everything, Arlo has the sweetest personality and just wants to be loved, but there are still many unknowns, which is why he remains hospitalized at CVRC.

Guthrie, an 8-week-old Golden Retriever mix, was found on the side of the road in Jasper County after being attacked by a dog or coyote on the coldest night of the year. He was severely underweight and barely hanging on. Although he was initially thought to be stable, something didn’t feel right, and I insisted he be taken to CVRC with Arlo. Thank goodness we did—Guthrie was actually worse off and required immediate surgery. He had multiple bite wounds to his neck and face, an abscess beneath his jaw, and extensive internal damage. His surgeon had to remove a damaged salivary gland and lymph node and place a drain. He remains on heavy antibiotics and under close care.

One puppy in ICU with surgery is costly. Two puppies in ICU is overwhelming. Their medical bills are already significant and ongoing. Please remember when you DONATE that this is for two puppies, not one. Just because it’s Christmas doesn’t mean the animals in our care stop needing help.

We wish everyone a very blessed Holiday Season filled with much Joy and Happiness.

🐶🎄❤️ A Warm Holiday Timber Update ❤️🎄 🐶

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1253

I truly appreciate everyone’s patience with Timber updates. As I mentioned in earlier emails, unless Timber has any medical concerns, I will be posting updates about him approximately once a month. If anything changes medically, you will hear from me immediately.

Our special, resilient boy is back to his normal self. He has had no setbacks and has regained most of the weight he lost during his hospital stay. We are not seeing any residual effects from the antibiotics, and there has been no swelling or fluid retention—wonderful news all around.

Timber’s personality is his usual cheerful self. He does seem a bit cautious with new people right now, which is understandable after such a long hospital stay. At the moment, he is completely obsessed with gathering as many stuffed toys as he can fit into his kennel. He piles them up, buries his face in them, and falls asleep surrounded by his treasures. He almost always has one proudly carried in his mouth.

In the meantime, we have taken in four new dogs, each critical in their own way. Two have already undergone surgery, and two more are currently in ICU awaiting their procedures. I will do my very best to share their stories and updates before Christmas.

As we move through this holiday season, please be mindful of animals left out in the cold and older individuals who may not have family nearby to care for them. Offering help whenever possible—whether it’s a gentle smile, a kind word, or a warm embrace—can make a world of difference for both animals and humans alike.

Thank you for being part of our NAR community—one that helps the helpless and loves those our society too often deems unlovable.

Warm hugs and much love,

Jennifer and the Noah's Arks Rescue Family

🐶💚 Cautious Hope for Our Brave Boy, Timber 💚🐶

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1251

Timber has finally had more good days than bad, and for the first time in a long time, the progress feels real. His abdominal drain was removed after the fluid dropped low enough, and he hasn’t had any swelling or discomfort since—huge news for this brave boy.

We did have a setback with his kidneys from the amikacin, so his team stopped that medication immediately. Thankfully, the main bacteria it targeted is no longer showing up, and he continues to tolerate Meropenem well.

At one point when nothing was working, Timber’s team discussed a last-resort option we had once used successfully on his severe skin infections: a highly diluted bleach solution. After 48 hours of weighing every risk, he received a tiny amount mixed into 100 ml of sterile fluid through his drain, with increased IV fluids to
protect his tissues.

It worked. Within hours, his drainage became clearer, the bacteria dropped, and inflammation cut nearly in half.
Timber has now been at CVRC almost three months, loved by every doctor, nurse, and technician who has walked this journey with him. We’re keeping him in ICU a few more days to be sure his kidneys recover and that the worst is finally behind him.

I am cautiously optimistic—truly—for the first time. Timber looks brighter, feels stronger, and acts like a dog who believes he’s winning.

Thank you all for lifting him up through every setback and miracle. Your love and support are the reason he’s still fighting.

💚TIMBER UPDATE — A HARD WEEK, A HOPEFUL DAY 💚

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1250

These past three weeks have been an emotional roller coaster. Every time we get good news about Timber, something seems to knock us ten steps back. It’s exhausting and scary, and I’ve found myself bracing for bad news even when there isn’t any. This has taken a toll on everyone — except Timber.

Timber has no idea how sick he’s been. All he knows is that he wants out of the hospital and back to the life he loves. He keeps fighting with everything he has. He’s eating and drinking like a champ, holding his weight, and honestly looks so good you’d never guess he’s been critically ill.

His drain is still producing fluid — some days more, some days less — but the best news is there’s no bacteria in it right now. If things stay stable, his team hopes to remove the drain in a couple of days and let his body take over naturally.

I spent time with him today, and he looked amazing. His critical care team adjusts his treatment constantly based on labs, and they love and cheer him on every step of the way. Timber isn’t being kept alive by machines — he’s keeping himself alive, and we’re just supporting his body as he fights this infection. And he is not suffering. His biggest complaint is being woken up for vitals.

For the first time in a long time, I feel cautious hope. The new antibiotic is still working. The bacteria hasn’t returned. We still have a long way to go, but today is a good day — and that’s something to be grateful for.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and love. Some days, that’s what keeps us going. 💚

🐶💚 Standing Strong With Timber 💚🐶

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1249

Thank you for helping us fight for this incredible dog. I wish more than anything that I could say with certainty that we can save him, but the reality is that we’re facing something far more unpredictable and heartbreaking than we ever imagined.
What I can say is that Timber is giving this battle every ounce of strength he has. He has no idea how sick he is—he just knows he wants to live—and he continues to fight with a spirit that inspires everyone who meets him.

We, in turn, are doing absolutely everything humanly possible to support him. Every test, every treatment, every hour in ICU…we are giving him every chance to overcome this infection. He deserves that.

Thank you for standing beside Timber—and us—through every step of this fight. Your support means more than words can express.

🐾 Timber’s Battle Isn’t Over 🐾

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1248

I don’t think I’ve ever been in a worse position—doing absolutely everything humanly possible for a dog, spending an unbelievable amount of money, fighting for every inch of progress—and still having him in ICU with a draining tube that cannot be removed without putting his life in immediate danger.

Timber has no idea how sick he really is. He’s happy, eating, drinking, wagging, and doing his best to enjoy the moments he’s given. But his abdomen is still producing far too much fluid from infection and inflammation. At one point, nearly three liters had to be removed. He’s now down to 1.5 liters a day, which is progress, but still far more than his body can safely handle.

If this fluid isn’t removed, Timber will be in unbearable pain, his abdominal cavity will rupture, and I will have no choice but to say goodbye to this beautiful boy. That is the reality we are fighting against every single day.

I have spoken to every specialist imaginable, exhausted every idea, and they all agree: what we are doing now is his only chance. I don’t have any good options. We are going broke trying to keep Timber alive, and on top of this, I still have 42 other dogs under our care who depend on us.

I need help. If you can donate—please do it now. I have never turned away an animal because of lack of funds, and I don’t want Timber to be the first. Please, if you’re able… DONATE.

💔 Timber’s Toughest Battle Yet 💔

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1247

Timber had two really good days, and I was so excited to finally share a positive update… but once again, the bottom fell out for what feels like the thousandth time.

The second culture from his most recent procedure came back today, and it showed that the bacteria is now resistant to the new antibiotic. Timber’s Specialist has already reached out to the pathologist at CSU to discuss next steps and any possible options.

Right now, the only antibiotic the bacteria isn’t resistant to is Amikacin — a powerful drug that can cause kidney damage. Timber has already had some kidney issues, and he was treated with Amikacin when we first rescued him to fight the severe infections he had then. His body may no longer tolerate it safely, but at this point, it’s the only shot we have left.

In all the years of Noah’s Arks Rescue, I’ve only had one other dog with a multi-drug resistant bacterial infection that we couldn’t overcome. For several days, Timber’s drain fluid had finally been decreasing and his bacteria count improving — but today, the fluid became cloudy again, and the culture showed the bacteria multiplying.

After long discussions, the pathologist and Timber’s medical team agree that our only option is to move forward with Amikacin and do everything possible to support his kidneys and organs. Doing nothing simply isn’t an option — it would be a death sentence. If Timber’s body could fight this on its own, it would have already. So, we’ll take the risk and give him every chance we can.

Timber needs all the love and prayers you can send his way. 💚 He has no idea how sick he is — still wagging his tail, giving kisses, and smiling at everyone. He remains in ICU with round-the-clock care, and it breaks my heart to think that after everything he’s survived, we could lose him simply because we’ve run out of options.

💔 It’s heartbreaking in a million different ways. 💔

A Good Day for Timber 💚🐾

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1246

I’m happy to report that today has been a good day for our dear Timber. He’s lost quite a bit of weight, but that’s something we can put back on once he’s fully healed from his infection. He’s now off fentanyl and isn’t as loopy as he was yesterday, and his team has been able to keep his pain well managed with oral medications.

In true Timber fashion, he let out a big sneeze and managed to blow his feeding tube right out! Since he’s eating and drinking like a champ today, they’ve decided not to reinsert the NG feeding tube, which has been in for nine days.

Every time it feels like we’re making real progress, I’m reminded just how critical his condition still is — and how quickly things can change if his antibiotic stops working. For now, I’ll take any good news as a win for Timber and keep the positive energy coming.

Timber is still producing a lot of fluid from his abdominal drain. Any animal that becomes septic from a perforation has to deal with a lot of inflammation because of the bacteria that damages the gut lining. His body is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do — healing and flushing out the infection. It’s still too soon to expect a big decrease in the fluid, especially since he had to undergo another surgery after his setback.

The best news of all is that Timber’s albumin levels are going up on their own, and he hasn’t needed another plasma infusion today. That tells us we’re on the right track with his new antibiotic. A culture taken during his last surgery should also give us answers soon about whether he’s fighting the same bacteria or something new.

Timber is an amazing dog who refuses to give up or give in, no matter how hard the road gets. As long as he’s fighting, we’ll be right there with him — giving him everything he needs to heal and thrive. Thank you for helping us fight for this very special boy. 💚

💔 Timber Needs a Miracle 💔

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1244

I hate days like today. Last night and this morning, Timber was doing great — his drain fluid had decreased, he felt strong, and was eating like a champ. But by 10:00 AM, our entire world turned upside down.

Timber’s abdominal drain suddenly began filling with red, cloudy, blood-tinged fluid, and he spiked a fever. A culture revealed E. coli bacteria, which means he either developed a new ulcer or the one they had closed reopened.

Everyone in ICU was in complete shock. When the call came, I was sure they had the wrong dog — not our Timber. But it was.

Timber is septic again and must go into emergency surgery — or I would have to say goodbye now so he wouldn’t suffer. There isn’t even time for me to drive to Charleston to be there. After speaking with his surgeon and criticalist, I agreed to proceed with exploratory surgery. They’re preparing him now.

If it’s a minor repair, there’s hope he’ll pull through. But if it’s more complicated, he would not have the quality of life he deserves — and I can’t let him suffer.

The ICU team is taking him outside for a little sunshine and love before surgery, just in case. Everyone there adores him and is heartbroken.

Please, please send every prayer you have for this incredible dog — the one his owner never wanted, and the one we can’t imagine life without. 💔

🌟 Hope, Healing, and Timber’s Unbreakable Spirit

Look who’s looking a little brighter this morning — Timber! 💛

https://www.noahs-arks.net/animal/view/timber-bcacs/1243

He’s eating and drinking like a champ, and his personality is starting to peek back through. The biggest hurdle now is that his body is still producing a lot of fluid from his abdominal drain.

The good news: the fluid no longer shows bacteria — just inflammation — which means his body is still fighting the infection that started with his ulcer. He’s off IV fluids, but losing so much fluid makes it hard to keep his protein levels stable. His Critical Care Team and specialists are working together to find a new way to slow that inflammation.

For now, Timber remains in ICU until the drain output decreases. His spirit, though, couldn’t be stronger. This boy simply refuses to give up — and as long as he’s fighting, we’ll keep fighting with him.

The best news? Timber is no longer septic, and his repaired ulcer looks great! Please keep those positive thoughts and prayers coming — he feels them all. 🐾💛
