365 Days of Declan

“525,600 minutes… how do you measure a year?”
🖤 In smiles. In head tilts. in zoomies. In hope🖤

Today marks 365 days —
one full year of Declan waiting for his forever family.

In that time, he has:
✨ Learned that humans can be kind
✨ Perfected his full-body tail wag
✨ Become a world-class snuggler
✨ Made every volunteer laugh with his giant-dog zoomies
✨ Sat politely for treats even though he wiggles with excitement
✨ Leaned his entire 70+ lbs of love right into your chest
✨ Fallen asleep with his head in our laps more times than we can count

And despite being:
💛 Silly
💛 Gentle
💛 Affectionate
💛 Loyal
💛 A professional cuddle monster
💛 And just… good

…he’s only received one application in an entire year.

He has had over 20+ grid posts, was crowned Dog of the Summer, and still — people scroll right past him.

Meanwhile smaller dogs get hundreds of likes, dozens of shares, and instant applications.

But big dogs like Declan?
- They get overlooked.
- They get lost in the feed.
- They wait. And wait. And wait.

Declan doesn’t understand algorithms.
But he does understand love.
And he has been saving all of his for the family he dreams of.

So today, on his 365th day in rescue, we’re asking you to see him —
really see him.

Because 525,600 minutes is long enough.
He deserves a couch. A person. A life.

Say cheers to Bordeaux, a 10-month old, 27-pound terrier mix with a heart as tender as her name is fancy. This black beauty starts out shy, but with time and perseverance, her personality blossoms into something very special. Once Bordeaux decides you’re safe, she shows her playful, affectionate side - - either begging for a game of fetch, happily curling up beside you for TV time, or quietly playing with her toys in her bad or crate.

Bordeaux has been busy learning the ropes of puppy life - - responding to the command come, understanding what the word no means, and practicing her fetching skills. Although not quite a retriever yet, she sure is trying! Bordeaux is housebroken, pad trained, and crate trained. Hooray for Bordeaux! She’s getting better on leash walks, though loud city noises like buses and trucks do tend to spook her. Hey, the Big Apple can be a scary place for a country bumpkin! A reassuring human and a soothing voice is all Bordeaux needs to help her focus on the more fun stuff outside…like smelling the flowers, sniffing the grass, and the many other exciting aromas.

Bordeaux enjoys treats, toys, and gentle pets. The best way to initially meet her is to sit on the floor and let her come to you first; she’ll give you a sniff, size you up, and before long, she’ll be leaning in for affection. Bordeaux can be a total snuggle bunny…particularly with the ladies…as well as any other human she grows to trust and adore.

A little bit quirky and a whole lotta sweet, Bordeaux would do best with a patient adopter who will let her open up at her own pace. In return, this precious pup will reward you with her loyalty, her love, and a bond that’s well worth the wait.

COME MEET KISMET THIS SATURDAY AT FROM 12-3 and SUNDAY AT PETCO UNION SQUARE FROM 12:30-3:30

Give a warm welcome to Kismet, a 6-month old, 25-ish pound Boxer mix who is bursting with love, curiosity, and puppy joy. This adorable girl gets along well with dogs, kids, and adults alike - - in fact, she’s never met a person, pup, or leaf on the sidewalk she didn’t want to befriend!

Kismet is spirited, energetic, and always ready for adventure. She loves her walks, exploring the city, and investigating everything and anything on the pavement. Kismet walks like a champ on a leash, she’s 100% housebroken, and she’s crate trained, as well. The best part? She sleeps through the night without making a p*ep. Peace out, people!

At home, Kismet is a world class cuddler who adores being pet, snoozing on the couch, and getting cozy after a fun day out. She’s a big fan of toys and can entertain herself with a chewy bone for a fairly long time. Kismet enjoys rummaging through her toy box, she’s got a particular fondness for ropes and bouncy balls, and her favorite game is fetch. Kismet shares her possessions with ease, she rarely barks, she travels well, and she doesn’t struggle with separate anxiety. She’s got one incredible disposition.

Kismet is a healthy eater and will do almost anything for a treat. She responds to the commands sit and let’s go, and is working on stay and paw. She knows to wait at street corners, at elevator doors, and at entranceways. What a smart cookie!

Attentive, affectionate, sweet, and enthusiastic for all life has to offer, Kismet is truly a dream puppy. She will make a fantastic family dog for anyone looking for a lively, loving, and super fun companion.

Say hello to Butter Pecan, a gentle and affectionate 2-year old, 14-pound Chihuahua/Dachshund mix who is as sweet and dreamy as a hot fudge sundae…but without all the calories!

Terrific with humans and other dogs, Butter Pecan enjoys scampering around the house with other pooches and soaking up all the love she can get from her people. A huge cuddler, the moment she spots someone sitting down, she immediately hops into their lap. She’ll also snuggle with another dog, if they’re a willing participant.

Butter Pecan’s favorite toys have squeakers in them, and her favorite treats are those dried beef/liver things. She has a healthy appetite, she rarely barks, and she’s starting to respond to the command sit. Eager to please and clearly intelligent, Butter Pecan should be a pleasure to train.

Rescued from a hoarding situation, Butter Pecan is somewhat fearful of the outside, so for now, she’s being introduced to outdoor walks with the help of a stroller. She has been making excellent progress, and with a bit more time and patience, she’ll surely get there. She isn’t doing her business outside yet, but Butter Pecan is doing well with the p*e pads and loves it when you sing her praises. Good girl, Butter P!

Butter Pecan is still decompressing from her previous situation, but this amazing and courageous little gal is the cutest, cuddliest thing imaginable, and is slowly blossoming into the dog she was always destined to be. Butter Pecan is oozing with love and will bring happiness into any home she inhabits.

Meet Cordelia, a 3-month old, 2.5-pound bundle of sunshine who has an adorably plump belly, long perky ears, and the softest fur you’ve ever felt!

Friendly, affectionate, and playful, Cordelia enjoys the company of kids, adults, and other felines. He has not yet been exposed to dogs, but he’d likely wanna make friends with them too. Cordelia loves toys, especially paper ones that he can slide across the floor. He also has a blast playing fetch with his favorite plushy toy that he often walks around with.

When Cordelia isn’t busy playing, he’s ALL IN for love and affection. This big-hearted fella is a huge fan of tummy scratches, head pets, cuddles, and caresses. A former stray, Cordelia welcomed snuggles and scratches from the get-go, and immediately embraced the magic of human kindness. Easy-going, adaptable, and realizing how good life can be, Cordelia is equally appreciative of a warm bed, good food, and a clean litter pan for his bathroom needs.

More fun than a barrel of monkeys, Cordelia is a real hoot, and whoever adopts this cute, courageous, comedic cat will have the best time raising him, loving him, and enjoying his superb companionship. This sweet kitty will add joy and laughter to anyone’s household!

🚨We are just days away from a potential transport that may not happen — all because we don’t have enough fosters. These pups are desperately in need, and we need YOU to step up and help save them. 🚨

Our Tennessee shelter partner depends on us to make room — without fosters here, they can’t take in the never-ending requests they get daily.

Transport is potentially this Saturday, and these pups need homes — whether to foster, adopt, or foster-to-adopt.

Just like his ice cream namesake, Americone Dream, a 2-year old, 14-pound Dachshund/Chihuahua mix is the perfect blend of soft, sweet, smooth, and a tad shy at first. But once you get a taste of his gentle charm, you’ll be hooked for life!

Americone Dream came from a hoarding situation, so the big wide world is still a bit new to him. He’s figuring things out one sniff at a time - - learning that the outdoors isn’t scary, that leashes mean adventures, and that people can be trusted…especially people with treats ;-).

Americone Dream is respectful around other dogs, though he prefers the smaller pooches. Big dogs make him somewhat nervous, but he will politely bow out rather than bark or growl. With adults and kids, he’s a total sweetheart - - bashful at first, but once you sit down or get on his level, he’s all in for snuggles, ear scratches, and naps in your lap.

Busy at work on his potty training and p*e pad skills, Americone Dream has been making steady progress in both areas. A no-drama dude, this ‘lil dumpling shares his space and toys like a gentleman, and he’s got that tranquil, soulful sweetness that melts you right down to your socks.

Americone Dream may not yet be the boldest or most energetic pup on the block, but he’s the one who will wiggle his way into your heart while curled up right next to you. A patient, loving home will help this young fella bloom and reach his full potential - - and when that happens, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without him!

Meet Pruitt!

At 3.5 years old and 25 lbs, Pruitt is the perfect pocket-sized Beagle mix — full of curiosity, charm, and classic hound personality! With his speckled muzzle, soft ears, and soulful eyes, this handsome guy turns heads wherever he goes.

Pruitt is your quintessential Beagle: energetic, playful, and nose-to-the-ground curious. Walks with him are less of a stroll and more of an adventure — every leaf, scent, and passing chip bag is a clue in his daily detective work!

After his outdoor adventures, Pruitt loves to zoom around the house before settling in for some cuddle time. Once he’s relaxed, he’s a total snugglebug who’ll happily soak up affection and give you those sweet, content sighs that only a happy Beagle can.

He’s doing well with other dogs and enjoys playtime with canine friends. Because of his mouthy play style, Pruitt would do best in a home without young children — he’s not aggressive, just exuberant and still learning boundaries.

Pruitt is house-trained, crate-trained, and super smart, learning quickly with patience and consistency. While he’s still mastering leash manners (he’s a Beagle, after all!), he’s getting more confident every day and settling nicely into city life.

He’d love an adopter who understands the hound spirit — someone who appreciates his curious nose, goofy zoomies, and big heart.

Pruitt is ready to find his forever family — one that will keep his body busy, his brain engaged, and his heart full of love.

Meet Piddle!

Piddle is a 1-year-old, 36 lb Aussie mix with a gorgeous merle coat and the cutest little nub tail. She’s full of personality, energy, and love — the kind of dog who makes every day more fun.

Still very much a puppy at heart, Piddle loves to play, explore, and be around her people. She’s a social butterfly who enjoys meeting other dogs and absolutely adores attention (personal space isn’t really in her vocabulary yet!). She’s smart and eager to please, already learning commands like sit and working on her leash manners. She’s also house trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and loves treats — which makes training easier and fun.

Piddle would thrive in an active home with another playful dog or an adopter who can give her plenty of exercise and engagement.

Meet Jasper!

Jasper is a 9.5 month-old bundle of pure joy wrapped in the most adorable black and white fur. With his irresistibly cute spots and bright, curious eyes, he’s impossible not to fall in love with at first sight. Jasper is the definition of friendly — he’ll start purring the moment he meets you!

This sweet boy loves attention. Whether it’s being held, getting head scratches, or simply sitting beside you, Jasper is happiest when he’s close to his people. He’s a little snuggle bug who brings calm and comfort wherever he goes.

Jasper is also housetrained, making him a perfect companion for any loving home. If you’re looking for a sociable, affectionate kitten with a heart full of purrs and cuddles, Jasper is your guy!

Meet Gibbous!

This 2-year-old, 20 lb Corgi mix with the most amazing ears is as sweet and gentle as they come. Gibbous is a total cuddle bug who adores people and loves nothing more than curling up close for snuggles. He’s quiet, kind, and affectionate — the kind of dog who melts into you once he feels safe.

Gibbous is fully house-trained and crate-trained, and he gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats. He’s polite, calm, and has shown zero signs of resource guarding or bad behavior. While he’s still learning to feel confident outside, he’s making steady progress every day. The city noises and new surroundings are a bit overwhelming for him right now, but with patience, love, and routine, he’s starting to show more curiosity and bravery on walks.

Inside, Gibbous is relaxed, happy, and full of love. He enjoys treats (especially when they come with praise!) and will quietly nap by your side or cuddle up for attention. He’s a sensitive soul who will thrive in a calm home with someone willing to give him the time and reassurance he needs to fully blossom.

If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion with the sweetest personality (and ears that could win awards ), Gibbous is your boy!
