Any business owners or individuals out there willing to contribute to the printing costs of a 2026 Animal Rescue calendar? Dark Dog Posse would like to have 12 of our Rescue Partners contribute a few photos to be highlighted each month in 2026 to gain more attention for their rescue efforts.

Your contribution toward printing expenses will enable us to provide calendars to those rescues that they can then sell and use the money they earn toward their needs.

Just a reminder that February is “Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.” Why is this important?

- A simple procedure to your male and/or female animals will prevent unwanted litters and help alleviate the issue of homeless animals in shelters, not to mention the unwanted animals running loose.
- Spaying your female animal eliminates the risk of uterine infections and significantly lowers the chance of developing breast cancer in your pet.
- Neutering your male animal prevents testicular cancer and reduces the risk of prostate problems.
- Spayed and neutered pets that are allowed outside are less likely to roam, get into fights with other animals, or display aggressive behaviors by reducing hormone levels.
- Studies also show that spayed and neutered pets tend to live long compared with “intact” animals.

There are a number of reduced-fee options for spaying and neutering your pets. If you still cannot afford services, check with your local veterinarian, animals rescue/shelter, or feral colony manager to see if they would be willing to sponsor help from a service like BISSELL’s Fix the Future® free spay and neuter program (https://darkdogposse.com/fix-the-future-helps-to-stop-animal-overpopulation-before-it-starts/).

One small effort on your part can literally make a huge difference in stopping animal overpopulation issues.

Part of the Dark Dog Posse mission is to help animal rescues and shelters get more exposure to potential fosters, adopters, donators, and volunteers. There's no cost, we won't try to sell you anything, and you may have an opportunity to be featured in one of our Rescue Spotlight blog posts (https://darkdogposse.com/blog/). Hey rescue friends!

The Maui Humane Society is urgently overcrowded and looking for animal rescue and shelter parters on the mainland to help their animals have a better chance at getting adopted. As you can imagine, their normal partners on the West Coast are currently consumed with aiding animals that have been displaced by the wildfires in California.

The Maui Humane Society works with Alaska Airlines for their transports, so any rescues near where Alaska Airlines flies can help. East Coast nonstop destinations include Boston, New York (JFK), Newark, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.

If you work with a rescue that is interested and willing to assist, please send us a message so we can put you in touch with the transfer coordinator.

**Update** There are 2 puppies 8 weeks old- 1 male and 1 female that we could help if we find a foster. They are lab/pit mix.

If you are able to help they would like a foster starting this weekend. We will supply food, vetting and other necessary items to care for them.
