Davidson Equine Dentistry Graduated from the Midwest Equine Dental Academy in Mount Pleasant Michigan in the art of equine point reduction.

Providing your hypsodont with the proper point reduction and balancing to eliminate unwanted weight loss, negative behaviors, health issues (colic), bit discomfort, and oral lesions due to the sharp points worn into teeth during every day mastication. Davidson Dentistry specializes in the all natural hand-tooled method of balancing the hypsodont's (horse, donkey, mini, pony, zebra, draft) mouth to

ensure proper grinding for healthy mastication. Point and table reduction in a hypsodont's mouth creates an ideal environment for the grinding required to efficiently masticate foodstuff allowing the animal to properly digest and absorb nutrients. A common mistake owners make is the assumption that because their horse does not show signs of pain or irritation, it does not need dental work. There could be very sharp points creating lesions in the cheeks and some horses will deal with the pain. The average horse with a balanced mouth generally requires annual point reduction. Signs Your Horse Needs a Dental Exam:
- Weight Loss or difficulty keeping weight on
- dropping grain or wads of forage
- unpleasant smell coming from mouth (periodontal disease)
- head tilting, shaking, bobbing
- drooling
- nasal discharge
- resist back-up
- resistance to halter, bit, or being caught in pasture
- quidding
- large undigested food particles in manure
- colic/impaction issues
- bucking, rearing

How Often?
- birth: checked for any congenital defects and jaw alignment
- 6 months to 10 years: every 6 months
- Over 10 Performance: 6 months to year
- Over 10: annually
All horses are different and will not always fit this schedule. A horse that is 10 years old and never floated may need to be reduced every 3 to 6 months until balance has been obtained. Depending on the horse there will usually be a 3, 6, 12, or 24 month dental visit suggested. Float includes:
Farm Call
Dental Exam
Ramps/Hooks
Steps/Wave
Buccal/Lingual Points
ATR/ETR
Wolf Teeth extraction (sedation required)

If sedation is required for extraction or for overall float please contact your veterinarian for an intravenous or intramuscular injection. If you are uncomfortable injecting your own horse, please make sure the veterinarian is present to sedate your horse. OR inquire about Dormoseden paste, an oral sedative your veterinarian may have. Please call or email with appointment inquiries and please give me your location, horse's age, and approximate date of the last dental appointment. I look forward to providing the most natural and effective care for you and your horse!! Other Services Offered:

Eye Flush - $20
Sheath Cleaning - $25
Tetanus Shot - $15 The mouth of the horse contains the bacteria clostridium Tetani. If your horse has not been vaccinated for tetanus within the last year, it is strongly advised that you, your Veterinarian, or I vaccinate your horse for Tetanus before dental work. Any small cut in the mouth opens the horse's body to the bacteria. Travel Fee:
Anything located within 15 miles of Appleton, WI is included in the Float fee. Distances beyond 15 miles depending on the number of horses and the miles required to travel may be subject to an additional farm call fee. Please send a facebook message or email me (davidsonequinedentistry.com) with your location, number of horses, and services requested and I will send you a quote.
