If you are a technician working with small animals (canine and/or feline-only), exotic companion animals, or in production medicine, the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Clinical Practice (AVTCP) needs your help!

The Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Clinical Practice (AVTCP) needs your help! We are conducting a survey of ALL veterinary technicians working in clinical practice. The purpose of this survey is to identify relevant and current knowledge, skills, and abilities that technicians routinely perform daily in clinical practice. We do this analysis every 10 years in order to ensure our exam is based on what technicians are actually doing in practice, and we create our credentials and exam based on these results.

The survey will take about 20 minutes. Please share these links with other technicians and choose the survey that reflects your type of practice: Small Animal (canine and/or feline-only), Exotic Companion Animal, or Production Medicine. We need input from as many technicians as possible, so please help us spread the word! Thank you!

Brachycephalic dogs prone to "shocking health issues"
Flat-faced, or brachycephalic, dogs are prone to multiple disorders and live an average of four years less than dogs with longer snouts, but they remain among the most popular dogs, researchers reported in PLOS ONE. "Owners are becoming hooked on the loving personalities of these sweet dogs, but also accepting and normalizing their shocking health issues," the researchers said.

In spite of serious health problems, flat-faced pooches such as bulldogs, French bulldogs and pugs win the hearts of their owners, a new study finds.

If you find yourself not doing so well with that, you should tune in to our next 3 episodes because you are not alone. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we’re focusing all three of our scheduled episodes for May to mental health in our field. We’re starting off Sunday May 3rd, with our good friend and Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional and Compassion Fatigue Educator, Joe DeFulio! We’re going to be having some heavy discussions this month on compassion fatigue, burnout, and depression, and hopefully share some ideas and resources if you find yourself or someone you work with feeling the same way. Pour yourself a cup of your favorite legal, addictive stimulant, and join us every other Sunday in May. Be well.
