Hi Friends! February is Dental Health Month! This month is dedicated to bringing awareness about oral hygiene, and the need to keep the mouths of all our friends (furry and otherwise) clean. It's easy to focus on the bigger stuff when our pets get sick, but the truth is that preventative care goes a long way. For example, proper brushing, regular dental cleanings from the vet, and a good diet can help reduce the risks of bacteria buildup, tooth decay, and periodontal disease. Keeping good oral health hygiene can help maintain overall health, too!

For the month of February, the Peoria Area Veterinary Group is hosting Dental Health Month. If you schedule your pet's dental cleaning during this month, we'll take $25 off. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of our special offer and keep your pet's mouth healthy. We recommend scheduling your dental cleaning as soon as possible.

Hi Friends!

We had a great time on Saturday at our open house. Thank you to everyone that came out to celebrate and support our clinic! The pets really had a great time. Thank you to Dr. Sam and Vicki for playing Santa and Mrs. Claus this year. The dogs were such a joy and we even saw a few cats and guinea pigs! Hopefully everyone had a chance to check out Moonlit Merch's table while at the clinic. Those shirts, collars, and bandanas were so cute!

We are looking to add a couple of Certified Veterinary Technicians or experienced Veterinary Assistants to our team at our Chillicothe and Dunlap locations. If you are passionate about animals, highly motivated, and have a positive attitude, we encourage you to apply online at PAVG.net.

September is Happy Healthy Cat Month! We celebrate our furry feline friends with lots of snuggles and love. Cats should be seen by a veterinarian at least once a year for vaccines and bloodwork. Your kitties should feel safe and protected at all times. Make sure they are microchipped or have some form of ID so they can be returned home if they get out. Most cats love to be groomed and brushed. Keeping them brushed daily will cut back on shedding and hairballs. If your kitty hasn't been seen this year by their veterinarian, please call us to schedule an appointment today!

Happy birthday to all shelter dogs today! Today is a special day to celebrate shelter dogs whose actual date of birth is unknown. Let's celebrate by adopting a shelter dog, donating to an animal shelter, or volunteering your time at an animal shelter. If you are unable to adopt or volunteer, you can still help by donating to an animal shelter. Every little bit helps.

Today is World Snake Day! It's a day to celebrate snakes, which are often underappreciated and misunderstood. They may be slimy and slithery, but they do have historic and medical significance. For example, the Staff of Aesculapius, the official symbol of the American Veterinary Medical Association, is a single snake with the letter "V" superimposed.

Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day! ♨️Pets cause over 1,000 house fires each year in the United States. ♨️Nearly 360,000 house fires occur each year in the United States. ♨️Over 40,000 pets die every year in house fires. Awareness can save lives. The best way to protect your pet is to include them in your fire safety plan. Pet alert window clings, which should be available at your local fire house, that First Responders will see and know to look out for any pets inside. There are many ways to keep your pet from causing a fire. Blow out candles before leaving home, block off access to the kitchen or remove stove knobs if pets can reach it, and keep any and all wires out of chewing distance.

Our History:

Peoria Area Veterinary Group of Chillicothe was established in May of 1999 by John W. Calhoun, DVM. It was originally located at 320 West Cedar Street in Chillicothe, Illinois. After three years of operation, the staff at Peoria Area Veterinary Group of Chillicothe found that they had outgrown the 700 square-foot clinic and decided it was time to build a larger facility. Peoria Area Veterinary Group of Dunlap at 1310 West Truitt Avenue opened its doors in October of 2002.

Then in September of 2006, Dr. John took ownership of Peoria Area Veterinary Group of Dunlap, located at 4620 W. Cedar Hills Drive in Dunlap, Illinois. This clinic was originally owned and operated by Richard Calhoun DVM, Jim Withers DVM, and Marvin Mitchell DVM.
