Six months ago today we said goodbye to our beautiful little fruit bat who battled two aggressive cancers in the last 12 months of his life.
I cannot believe six months have passed without him. Beautiful Dexter. Twelve years simply weren't enough. I miss you every day, my little lad. Your funny little ways. Your smile. Your everything.
Six months ago I held you as your body had had enough and daddy and I kissed you goodbye to go join sissy Ciara.
We love and miss you forever, little fruit bat. Mummy, daddy, nanny, poppy, the vet and staff and all your fans around the world whose hearts you touched. Thank you for those twelve years you gave us.
Today I light a candle in your memory. We love and miss you forever. You will never be forgotten, little fruit bat Dexter. 💙🐾

Yesterday would have been Dexter's 12th gotcha day. He was a Christmas puppy for Ciara and they adored each other. So it was somewhat fitting that he joined her at the 🌈 bridge on the exact same day two years later.

This is our first Christmas in 12 years without our special little boy. Dexter, we love and miss you forever. Merry Christmas and happy gotcha day. Run free with Ciara. Remembering you today and always. 💙🐾

Two months ago today, little fruit bat. Two months ago today we held you one last time, kissed you one last time. Two months ago today we last looked into your soulful expressive melting moment eyes. Two months ago today you gained your wings and joined sissy Ciara two years to the day she gained hers. The house is not the same without you. Our lives are empty without you. Your toys remain in the basket where you left them though duckie's with me. Dexter darling, the most beautiful and precious boy. We will love and miss you forever. Thank you for the memories and for 12 years of unconditional love and loyalty. 💔🐾🌈

Just met one of our new neighbours. They have a puppy. A staffy. And it made me sad. It's been two months today that we lost our darling little fruit bat. Miss him so much. 💔 🐾🌈

As a thank you for helping and caring for them, my mum bought us this gorgeous little staffy today. As soon as I saw it I fell in love with it. It made me think of our beautiful Dexter though it is more like Ciara. Isn't he just the cutest?? 💙🐾

Oh my! I just received this email from one of the oncology vet nurses who looked after our darling boy Dexter at SASH. They truly loved him and his hugely exuberant personality.

As you can see, he certainly charmed everyone with those bunny ears.

Miss our little boy so much. This is a kind and thoughtful thing to do. 💙🐾💔🌈

A bittersweet meal tonight as I peeled, chopped, cooked and mashed the sweet potato to accompany our apricot chicken. The first time I've used the sweet potato since our beloved fruit bat Dexter gained his wings. The sweet potato I used was from his stash I bought for his meals. 💔🐾

I always said Dexter resembled a little piglet with his cute little smooth as silk tum. Of course it was twice that size the day he snaffled an entire chicken that was left out defrosting. I was so mad with him that day...🤣

I never have and never will leave them. I have always been with them right until they draw their last breath. I am always the last thing they see and hear. I will never ever leave them. I was holding Dexter as he drew his last breath and gained his wings. 💔🌈🐾

"It turns out that pets also have last wills before they die, but only known to vets who put old and sick animals to sleep." Twitter user Jesse Dietrich asked a vet what the hardest part of his job was.

The specialist replied without hesitation that the hardest thing for him was seeing how old or sick animals look for their owners before they fall asleep. The fact is 90% of owners don't want to be in a room with a dying animal. People leave so they don't see their animals leave. But they don't realize it's in these last moments of life that their animal needs them the most.

Vets are asking owners to stay close to animals until the end. "It is inevitable that they die before you. Remember that you were the center of their lives. Maybe they were just a part of you. But they are also your family. Even if it's hard, don't give up on them.

Don't let them die in a room with a stranger in a place they don't like. It's very painful for vets to see how pets can't find their owner in the last minutes of their lives. They don't understand why their master left them. After all, they needed the consolation of their master.

Veterinarians do their best to make animals not so scared, but they are totally strangers to them. Don't be a coward because it's too painful for you. Think about the animal. Endure that pain for them. Be with them until the end.💞🙏

I was awake at 3am this morning bawling my eyes out for my boyzee. I miss him so much I just wanted to cuddle him one more time. To kiss him one more time. To just have him snuggled next to me as I sleep one more time.

Grief is the price we pay for love. My heart is broken. I love and miss you forever, baby boy. 💔🐾🌈

The surprises keep coming. Today in the mailbox was this lovely card from Dexter's oncology team at SASH. They loved our boy so much too. He was a little heartbreaker. So touched by all the kindness and thoughtfulness of everyone. Dexter touched so many hearts. And now, mine is broken...💔
