Bubbles and LouLou were both female breeder dogs for about five years, from birth, in puppy mills but were rescued by Lucky Star and we eventually adopted them and this is their site and a bit about their life and recovery.
We adopted both girls from Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue, they do wonderful work in saving these dogs from puppy mills. We've had Loulou for almost four years and when we first got her she wouldn't move. I had to carry outside, to the kitchen to eat, and to bed. She wouldn't even go to the bathroom for almost to days she was so petrified. I had to teach her to walk on a leash. She wouldn't even sniff other dogs when we took her to doggie play day as she cowered in the corner. Eventually she learned to love going and now she loves other dogs and gets so excited to go. She has come a long way to will come to us for comfort when it's thundering and if she's scared of other things. When we got Bubbles, she was very shy and we had to hand feed her as she wouldn't eat out of a bowl. She was not as shy as Lou and helped Lou come out of her shell and Lou was sooo happy to have a doggie friend. We have two cats so the girls had to learn to live with the cats. There have been some accidental incidents and everyone knows their place and now the girls will "snuggle" with my cat Laika from time-to-time. However, my other cat Colby is not charmed by the dogs, however he will go on walks with them. The girls are doing well, they do have some behavioral challenges as a result of their upbringing, but are doing well overall. They bring us a lot of joy and we love them dearly.
