Peaches went home to Cherry Hill yesterday. She was captured by An Itch In Time on October 12th. We are happy to be able to send them home as quickly as possible thanks to Dr. Lori Nordt being able to examine them before their freedom.

An Itch In Time spends many many hours trying to catch these fox with mange and often have to deal with other wildlife that go into the traps. This one is particularly cute and maybe we'll convince people not to be so afraid of them and realize the beneficial things that these animals do around their homes. They learn this scare tactic when they are very young and it is especially funny when they haven't quite gained their balance and fall over after stomping at you.

I am constantly preaching on how live traps are actually death traps when people don't do the proper thing and dump animals in an unfamiliar area, often separating moms and babies and often dumping an animal that is injured from the trap or sick. Wildlife should be brought to Wildlife Aid if they absolutely have to be trapped. Anyone should leave a message at 609-927-0538 for advice on wildlife around your home. Please read this article which explains how detrimental dumping can be.

This bad girl went home today thanks to the efforts of An Itch in Time and the fire department taking a lot of time to get her out of a drain pipe and into a net so she could come to Wildlife Aid and recuperate from mange. She was here for about 3 weeks and as you can see, very anxious to get away from her captors. Maybe someday we will actually know if they understood what happened to them was life-saving. In the meantime, we just have to be happy that these gorgeous animals have a second chance to live a healthy life.

A very big thank you to Diane Harrell who took the time to trap mangy Fox in her backyard in Malaga. The female went home on September 24th and the male went home October 3rd after his amputated toe healed. A third, a juvenile, did not survive and we are always so sad to know that young animal probably never knew a life without constant itching and distress.

We are very lucky to have a veterinarian that is willing to work with wildlife because four rehabilitators in other counties cannot find a vet to agree to look at their wildlife when necessary in order for these four people to get their rehab licenses. My veterinarian, Dr Lori Nordt, not only will look at the wildlife but she has agreed to help these four people get their licenses.

Last night she spent hours caring for this Fox from Malaga with a badly injured toe that needed amputation. We are hoping this surgery will be successful but wildlife does not always cooperate. He will return in 2 weeks to be examined and have stitches removed.

Thank you again Dr Nordt for being a special, humane and kind person. We wish more professionals in your area of expertise would be more receptive to the needs of wildlife and the people caring for them.

We have made it a practice to have all Fox seen by Dr Nordt so they can be thoroughly examined and any problems like this resolved before they are released. We would hate to have them caged for weeks and have to care for them, only to release them with a problem that we didn't know about.
