We hope you’ll join Feline Advocates of Leon County, The 850, Amicus Brewing Ventures on Saturday, September 27th for an Oktoberfest celebration!
From 7:00-10:00, The 850, Tallahassee’s favorite 80’s & 90’s cover band, will be rocking the stage at Amicus Brewing! If you haven’t seen them live, you’re in for a serious treat!
While you’re rocking out, be sure to check out our table where The 850 will be selling their t-shirts for $25 - and have very generously offered to donate a large portion of proceeds to our rescue! We will have our own t-shirts available too, so you can show your love for kitties and local music in style!
It’ll be a fun night of local Tallahassee craft beer and live music! We can’t think of a better way to raise some money for the kitties!

Homelessness doesn’t just affect people, it affects their pets too. 💔
This past weekend, a young momma cat and her five newborns came to our rescue, Feline Advocates of Leon County, from someone who had just lost their home. This Momma cat is underweight, was covered in fleas, and exhausted. Yet despite her struggles, she was fiercely devoted to her babies: five tiny lives who depended on her for every meal and safety from predators outside.
And through it all? She purrs. She is grateful for a safe, warm, and quiet place to raise her kittens.
Then, when we thought the excitement was over, very next day, our local Tallahassee shelter reached out. They were brought a single orphaned kitten around the age of our babies. Kittens like this need out of the shelter ASAP, they are extremely susceptible to infections and need careful care. If she remained by herself, she’d need bottle feeding around the clock.
Since we had our mom with her babies around the same age, we said yes and hoped Mom would accept her. We introduced her to Mom: and without hesitation, she began grooming the new kitten and caring for it as if it had always been hers. The new kitten is spicy and hisses at her foster, but she’s slowly learning people aren’t so scary.
Now, this fragile orphan has a family, and this incredible mom has six babies to raise. 💕
But they can’t do it alone. Every kitty will need full vetting, deworming, testing, vaccines, and spay/neuter: at least $700 total just for this family, not including the food and litter they’ll need to grow strong. This is also assuming they don’t need any additional medical attention for any issues that could arise. For any rescue, accepting a litter like this is a financial commitment.
This story could have gone so differently. But because of momma’s love, our foster’s dedication, and supporters like you, these babies have a chance.

Wanting to deliver a unique experience to the Tallahassee community, Fat Cat Cafe Tallahassee officially opened its doors in August of 2017.
From the start, our mission has always been, and always will be, about giving cats a second chance at life. By partnering with local rescue organizations, we’re able to save kitties from all walks of life and give them a fresh start at Fat Cat Cafe. These cats are then housed at our cafe, all patiently waiting to meet you and find their new furever home.
Our cafe side of things offer an eclectic boutique (full of gifts for cat lovers) and delicious coffee and teas, all available for your enjoyment while you cozy up to our residents.
Keep up with our page, as we have some amazing events going on, including Yoga with Kitties, rock painting, adult art classes and much more.
We hope to see you soon!
