Meet Spider Monkey 🐒

Spider Monkey is a fluffy little miracle! She came to us as a tiny kitten with severely infected eyes. Despite our best efforts, her eyes couldn’t be saved, but Spider Monkey has proven that her blindness won’t hold her back.

This girl is completely blind, making her a special needs kitty, but don’t let that fool you—she’s incredibly resilient and adapts to new spaces beautifully. She quickly learns her surroundings and navigates with ease. Her foster mom says she gets along well with the other cats in the home and loves being cuddled. Her soft, fluffy coat makes her the ultimate snuggle companion!

Because Spider Monkey is a special needs cat, she requires a patient and understanding adopter who can ensure her safety in her new home. She is our special baby and we will be handling her adoption extra carefully. Potential adopters should be prepared to provide a vet reference and engage in in-depth conversations with us to ensure a good fit. It is so important to us that Spider Monkey gets the perfect forever home she deserves!

Introducing Precious! This beautiful boy is a year and a half old and is one of our special need kitties waiting for his forever home.

Precious came into the rescue at around 10 months old with obvious eye problems. With some TLC and medical care, his eyes were salvageable but does have some vision loss. Even with his limited eyesight, Precious can get around just fine and is very affectionate! He loves attention and will flop next to you to receive pets! 😹

Come by Fat Cat Cafe to meet him today! He will be one of the first cats to greet you. We will be open until 6pm. 🐾

Meet Donna! This little cutie pie is 4 months old and is as sweet as can be! With her playful personality and love for cuddles, she’s sure to bring joy to any home. Donna enjoys playing, especially chasing toys and pouncing around, but she also loves snuggling up for a nap. She’s friendly and ready to find her forever family. If you’re looking for a loving companion, Donna is the perfect little kitten to brighten your days!

Orchid is officially ready for her furever home! This sweet girl came to us from Gadsden county. She had a belly swollen from parasites and it took some time to get her healthy. She handled her spay like a champ and is officially ready to graduate foster care.

Her personality is that of a typical kitten - very sweet and cuddly but also quite playful! She enjoys other cats and has thrived in her foster home.

This is Hooligan! A 14-years-young kitty hoping to get his forever home for the holidays!

Hooligan is a chill old man who is very sweet and likes to snuggle. He’s came into our rescue after his former owner developed dementia and could no longer care for him. We were happy to step in and help, and are now trying to find him the purrfect home to enjoy his golden years.

If our previous posts haven’t convinced you to adopt an adult/senior kitty yet… then meet Leia!

At 3 months old, Leia was adopted from another awesome local rescue, Smitten With Kittens. She rode away on her freedom ride to what she thought was her forever home - life was good!

Fast forward four years later, our TNR (trap, neuter, return) team came across the sweetest kitty who so clearly didn’t belong outdoors. Much to their surprise, that kitty had already been spayed and had a microchip! Luckily Smitten With Kittens was still listed on the microchip and they confirmed this kitty was Leia.

After multiple attempts to contact her owners in hopes they had been looking for her, the harsh reality set in… Leia had been abandoned.

Fortunately we had space within our rescue and asked Smitten With Kittens if we could take her, at which point Leia became the newest resident at Fat Cat Books!

Leia is a little timid (who wouldn’t be though after what she went through!) but with a gentle voice and delicate pets she will open up into the most affectionate kitty! She has the softest fur too! Once Leia warms up, her motto is “if I fits I sits” and she will commandeer any nearby clothing or bags that may be lying around!

Meet Lunkhead—affectionately known as Lunky, and it’s easy to see why! This big, burly boy is like the bulldog of cats, a true gentle beast.

When we first found Lunky, he was in rough shape. Beneath his impressive physique, he carried the scars of a hard life on the streets, including a pronounced limp. After several vet visits and X-rays, we learned that he had suffered an old injury that healed poorly. We may never know exactly what caused it, but it hasn’t dampened his spirit one bit!

Lunky is full of personality and zest for life. He runs, plays, and sometimes even gets a little mischievous, picking on his kitty companions or stealing snacks from our First Friday vendors. He’s a true character!

At over five years old, Lunky would thrive in a loving home where he can be safe and monitored for any signs of arthritis. If you’re willing to leash and harness train him, he’d be thrilled to explore the great outdoors—his favorite stomping grounds.

Our Story

Wanting to deliver a unique experience to the Tallahassee community, Fat Cat Cafe Tallahassee officially opened its doors in August of 2017.

From the start, our mission has always been, and always will be, about giving cats a second chance at life. By partnering with local rescue organizations, we’re able to save kitties from all walks of life and give them a fresh start at Fat Cat Cafe. These cats are then housed at our cafe, all patiently waiting to meet you and find their new furever home.

Our cafe side of things offer an eclectic boutique (full of gifts for cat lovers) and delicious coffee and teas, all available for your enjoyment while you cozy up to our residents.
