A letter to Phoebe from her special friend Davis. 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
My assignment was to write about my most influential person, someone who changed my life in a way like no other. I immediately though of Phoebe.
I had a rough start in this world and had to work with OT and PT to get certain things that came naturally for others. At 3 years old, I began working with a speech therapist. We then moved from SC to NY the next year and it was a tough transition.
I didn’t like change and had a really bad stutter so I didn’t want to meet new friends. I finally made my first friend at the library in our new town that I called Hamburger. Her name was Phoebe. I have chosen to write a letter to her so her Mom can read it to her.
Dear Phoebe,
I want you to know you will always be close to my heart. The things you did for me are truly amazing. My family feels strongly that God placed you in our lives and the perfect time. We will forever be grateful for you and your Mom. Here are three huge reasons why I love you and feel you are the most influential person in my life.
My first reason is because you made me calm. There was nothing like running my fingers though your soft hair. It taught me that I could feel calm and peaceful. My Mom said I started acting more like myself.
The second reason is because you made me believe in myself. As I started to feel calmer, I began to get more confidence and I was building up courage to start new things, make new friends and find my voice.
Lastly, you would make me happy. I would go around and tell my friends about you and tell them that you were my new best friend. Just sitting there with you would make me feel warm inside. It got to the point that I would feel that joy even when I wasn’t with you and was talking about you. I can’t tell you what would make me happier.
It was this peace, confidence and happiness that gave me the strength to start reading again and working on my speech. After reading together my mom began to see all the things I was feeling when I was with you. When I would have my hand on you, I read smooth, no bumps. My heart would not pound and my breathing was also normal when I was with you and I began to progress so much in my speech.
People say dogs are a man’s best friend, you are so much more than that. You are comforting, calm and so cute. I can’t thank you enough for what you have done for me. You didn’t just help me with my speech, you helped me come out of my shell, and healed my heart! Thank you for being you and loving me! I love you Phoebe!
Love always,
Davis
