Dogs By Johnna Certified Professional Dog Trainer CPDT-KA. 30+ years of positive motivational dog training! I have learned is there are no absolutes when it comes to training.

I'm a Certified professional dog trainer through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers. I have trained hundreds of dogs and their owners over the past 25+ years through positive motivational techniques. That's because every dog is different as are their humans. That's why I have a variety of ways to teach dogs to do just about anything. My goals are two-fold: First, I find out wha

t the family is looking to accomplish with their dog. Second, I train the dog (s) first, then the owners. I show the owners how to do what I just taught their dog (s). This way they are able to follow up and reinforce the training. I am a positive motivational trainer and believe less-is-best approach. I specialize in integrating new dogs into the family and starting puppies and their parents off on the right paw! I am well versed in the art of classical conditioning, behavior modification, problem solving, aggression, and overall house manners.

I walked into a hardware store on Saturday, and I saw this handsome "Fox Red" Labrador in the aisle. The closer I got, I knew I recognized him. It was Mitch, a puppy I trained 2 years ago. He recognized me immediately!🥰
I'm so proud of his owners for keeping up with his training!

We all know unexpected life changes can happen. However, if you already know that your situation will/might probably change where you can't keep your dog for life, don't get one. Dogs bond strongly with their family. They feel loss and pain. They are not an accessory nor an unplanned Christmas gift!

It's "shocking" to me how many people still think these are ok to use. I felt the need to repost the following:

Many veterinary associations and humane organizations advise against using shock collars on dogs, including the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB):

AVSAB
Recommends that punishment-based training, such as shock collars, should not be used as a first-line treatment for behavior problems. AVSAB states that punishment can have adverse effects, including increased fear and aggression, and injury to both animals and people.

British Veterinary Association
Suggests that electronic shock collars can be harmful and stressful for animals, and may have long-term negative effects on their behavior and emotions.

European Society of Veterinary Clinical Ethology
Recommends that laws be enforced to prevent the use of shock collars and other aversive methods.

Instead of shock collars, humane training methods can be used to address unwanted behaviors. These methods include:
Reinforcing desired behaviors
Removing the reinforcer for inappropriate behaviors
Addressing the environmental conditions and emotional state that may be contributing to the undesirable behavior

At the park today; "He's beautiful! What breed is he?"
"He is a bench-bred Labrador, which means bred to the physical standards of the breed."
"I've never seen one before."
I then went on to explain the difference between the two types.

Maybe they split the Labrador into 2 separate breeds. What do you think?
