I've put off posting this for a while now, but I've received quite a few messages lately asking why I have so little available on my website, etc. After a lot of thought, consideration, and conversations, due to both the economic situation in this country, in addition to the current state of things in the Leopard gecko hobby, I made the difficult choice to essentially take the year off from breeding for the first time in 14 years doing this. While many times I'd considered posting some lengthy rant about the state of things, the truth is I just don't have the energy, nor do I have any interest in being the old guy yelling at the sky.
Rest assured, I did not stop breeding entirely, but have scaled the operation back this year by about 95%. As a result, if I do have anything that I will release to the public, it will be VERY minimal. At the end of the day, taking some time off, producing less, etc. is not a bad thing for the hobby. As it stands currently, the supply has far outweighed the demand for at least a year, and continuing to produce hundreds or thousands, only to raffle them off for $25 ea only serves to exacerbate the problem. While we have a few examples of this in our current breeder pool, I will not contribute to such things. Time to take it back to basics and what started it all, the passion for the animals. So, yes, I am still actively working on my key projects, and will continue to move the needle until the time I decide that it's best to shut the doors for good. Hopefully that doesn't happen anytime soon, but this is objectively the worst state that the hobby has been since I started.
We've needed more people curating this community/hobby for years now that will define and stand up for what is acceptable and what is not, but sadly that has not happened.
I'll post some pics here and there of some of what I've produced this year, but I would not anticipate much from me for the remainder of 2024. Best of luck with your seasons.
