Our petition, calling on Lane Cove Council to ensure sports fields remain shared spaces has reached 634 signatures ahead of the next council elections.
A massive thank you to everyone who has signed this petition.
Shared open spaces in Lane Cove are important not only for our four legged friends but for all community members of Lane Cove.
Looking forward to seeing how the newly elected councillors of Lane Cove Council will support this matter.

Lane Cove Council is currently revising their policies regarding dogs on all sports fields. They have already claimed that in order to maintain the new sports field at Bob Campbell oval having "dogs allowed off-leash on the field, will not be possible." We are very concerned that Lane Cove Council is considering banning dogs from all other sports fields in Lane Cove as well as part of their revised policy.
Whilst we understand that the policy is currently only under revision we believe this is a chance to ensure that the community has the opportunity to inform their initial decision making process and present a view that is not exclusively that of a single stake holder.
This topic has already featured in articles by both The Daily Telegraph and North Shore Times. A Current Affair on Channel 9 will also be airing a segment regarding Dogs on Sports fields in Lane Cove on Wednesday or Thursday Evening. (TBC)
We, along with several other concerned community members, have started a petition to ensure that Sports Fields remain spaces accessible to all members of the community.
We are not asking for unrestricted access. We understand the importance of sports as a community activity but at a time when space is becoming an increasingly limited and ever more valued commodity it’s not realistic or fair that sports fields be reserved for one small section of the community.
Sports Players typically only utilise the fields on weekends and occasionally for afternoon/evening training, why should this valuable public space remain empty and unused the rest of week?
We believe that responsible pet ownership, including cleaning up after pets and ensuring they are well-behaved in public, is essential and must be upheld to ensure that these spaces remain welcoming to all community members.

ATTENTION NEIGHBOURS, DOG OWNERS AND DOG WALKERS

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

As many of you may know, there is a council meeting this week, May 23rd and the public forum is held tomorrow, May 20th at 7pm.

‘Dogs on sports fields’ is item 14 on the agenda.

The proposal is currently for ‘community consultation’ but having spoken to several councillors and seen the resources and time they’ve expended to the best of my knowledge it seems that council already has the predetermined goal of banning dogs on sports fields but are not willing to admit this and be transparent with tenor electorate.

It also seems to me that they’re attempting to force this decision through before the upcoming local elections.

The proposed consultation does not ask the community decisively if they actually want dogs off sports fields. There is no draft proposal put forward to use as an example of what we are asked to make a decision on.

They seem to be deliberately avoiding the question that they don’t want the answer for.

Council have spent our rate revenue to conduct a ‘dog excrement and hole audit’…..they have used our dollars to count poo and holes. Personally, I would rather my money go to fixing footpaths, holes etc

The best thing you can do is speak at the public forum which is on Monday evening at 7pm BUT you have to register to speak before 11:59pm this evening.

You don’t need to speak for the full 3 minutes but speaking at all is a BIG help to showing how essential these spaces are to the community.

Emailing the councillors would also be of great assistance, but, speaking has the biggest impact.

My suggestion is that rather than putting this subject to community consultation is that they should be putting a clear proposal to the community to test through consultation and any proposal but forward should first be reviewed by the dog advisory committee.

The more support we get the better chance we have at keeping ovals as a shared space for all locals to use.
