Equine clients! Have a look at this great post of winter tips from the folks at Elm Creek Equine Veterinary Services! Great info about shelter, feed, water, vital signs, and blanketing! Be ready for anything this time of year with nasty weather and poor road conditions!

We have a winter storm coming in!

Emergency coverage may be affected by any impending road closures.

A few tips to keep your horses safe and healthy:
- Make sure they have lots of access to good quality feed. Hungry horses get themselves into trouble! Use a hay net to slow them down if needed, and feed an appropriate hay that they can eat all day and maintain an appropriate weight.
- Double check the water! It needs to be warm and not having any electrical issues causing any discomfort while drinking.
-Thinking about blanketing? Check the comments for good blanketing advice!
- Use caution changing your horse’s routine. Horses used to being outside can stay outside - they need shelter from the wind (even if they have a blanket) and they need to be either unblanketed or appropriately blanketed (dry underneath with appropriate fill- an underweight blanket is colder than no blanket!). Check the comment for a link to great blanketing tips. They need bedding and access to unlimited hay, salt, and water!

A few other tips:
- Have a thermometer! Go to Shoppers and get one right now if you don’t have one!
- Practice taking your horse’s vitals: knowing a temperature and heart rate can be very important in knowing if emergency service is necessary, especially during dangerous driving conditions.

Kannata Valley Kats Rescue is thrilled to introduce our "Cats for Seniors" program, designed to bring companionship and joy to seniors aged 65 and older. This special initiative pairs our long-term adoptable cats with loving seniors in a foster-style arrangement.

Here’s how it works:

● Seniors provide a temporary or permanent home to one of our rescue cats.

● It’s a foster-first program, meaning no obligation to adopt—but if you fall in love and want to make it official, we call that a "foster fail," and we celebrate it!

● All supplies, support, and vet care are provided by Kannata Valley Kats Rescue.

Our goal is to give these incredible cats a loving environment while enriching the lives of seniors with the unconditional love and companionship that only a cat can provide.
