On Wednesdays we wear p i n k mini bandannas cut out of a regular bandanna because our owner is working through some unresolved family trauma and thought it would be cute if we matched or something idk. On Thursdays we’re going to try to escape.

Have y’all ever fermented your quail feed (and forgot there was pressure built up and lose 1/3 of it when you opened the jar and it exploded all over you) before? They really love it.

Woke up today and decided to turn the terra-cotta pot hides and drip trays into chia pets… 🤷🏽‍♀️🪴

This is day one. I soaked the seeds for an hour in the drip tray and covered the top of the hide with half of the sticky chia paste. They should at least sprout by day four if I keep them moist and they don’t get picked at. So far no one’s interested in the hide roof/future hobbit hide.

*The plant that grows from chia seeds has some pretty botanical name that I can’t remember but it’s in the mint family and perfectly safe for them to eat if it makes it that far.

Lude (right) is our chillest roo, he always shares his food with the ladies and he let’s them literally walk all over him. Most of his free time is spent flopping around in the dirt bath 🛁

We had 4 males to start out with, but 2 became aggressive and had to go. We decided to keep Lude for his friendly temperament and Francis Marion (not pictured) for his protective nature.

🥒 Sliced cucumber is one of their favorites. They never eat the skin so they get theirs sliced in half for maximum exposure. Sometimes I add seed sprinkles but most of the time it’s plain.

This is Frankie, it’s short for Francis Marion.Because I let my boyfriend name one quail 🤦🏽‍♀️

Sinéads pecked feathers are growing back nicely since we removed the two bully Roos a couple weeks back. Not sure how I’ll tell her apart from some of the other unnamed ladies after a while, I thought it would leave a permanent scar 🤕

This is our set up while we’re finishing the fairyquail garden habitat. It’s a converted large dog kennel with the “roof” lowered to 12” and an extra overhead layer of screen to soften the blow when they do decide to randomly slam their bodies against the ceiling every once in a while. So far it’s working as a temporary solution. 0 broken necks, a few broken egos.
