Pig physio at !
On our recent holiday my first morning involved having the honour to massage this beautiful sow who had just had piglets! She wasn’t able to stand up after farrowing. I’m certainly no expert, but it seemed like the pelvic ligaments still needed to go back to normal after giving birth. The main way I could help her was in treating compensatory tension. Munchkins work tirelessly to help the ponies in their care. The need for up to date behavioural training for all of the volunteers and ponies is immense with so many ponies. For some of the ponies a regular Physiotherapy program is essential too… If you can offer some financial support so that they can continue to have my regular service, please do!

Do you love being with ponies but don’t want to ride? Are you local to Ideford, Chudleigh (TQ13)? I’m Looking for a very special sharer for Spirit. Spirit is a 16 year old 13.2hh Dartmoor pony mare. She is primarily trained with positive reinforcement, so a prior understanding of positive reinforcement methods is essential for the right person to share Spirit - it is what she understands and what works best for her. As an equine behaviour consultant, I can share some knowledge with the right person, but Spirit is not the pony for you to learn this from scratch with.

Spirit enjoys long walks, and would excel at agility and other creative training challenges. She is very bonded with her herd at home. I’m creating a veterinary physiotherapy and behaviour equine rehabilitation facility; this project, plus rehabbing my other mare and keeping my Shetland pony (Spirit’s best friend) fit and healthy, mean that Spirit could do with a special person of her own to come and build a relationship with her.

I feel I need to state again that she is not for a novice. She is ever so sweet natured, but she has some trauma around human handling. She understands good positive reinforcement training - this is the language she knows - if you can speak this language with her then the moments you can share are really magical. This is a sharing opportunity, so she needs to stay at her current yard. Contribution to poo picking would be good, but other than this, time and commitment are the main requirements.

Skylark’s dressing is officially off, and her tendons and ligaments are healing well ❤️‍🩹.
She is now on 10 minutes waking a day, progressing to 15 minutes this weekend. This could be 2x daily but I’m giving her some calm time with her friends on the yard, and grazing time, so could easily do too much too soon.
She’s doing well, and Shadow & I are on foraging duty for extra herbs for her, as he regular walks!
Ash and Spirit are also keeping up the moral support, providing lots of mutual grooming!

Getting back into exercise is definitely worth it when the hedgerows are so yummy!

In all seriousness, when I’m out walking Shadow my main mission is to find the grass free spots that where he can eat beneficial forage, because he’s quite grass intolerant! Also thankfully it is VERY hilly around here, so the balance of exercise & eating is pretty good 😁
