Karen Pryor will be remembered as an inspiration to so many, and a positive force for humans and other animals.

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Karen Pryor, a pioneering animal trainer, author, and expert in behavioural psychology and marine mammal biology. As the founder of the Karen Pryor Academy and a leading advocate for clicker training, her innovative methods have profoundly influenced animal training practices worldwide. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us in the field of animal behaviour and training. Our thoughts go out to all Karen’s loved ones, colleagues and peers.

Weigh ins are not just for horses! Rollo has had digestive issues, so he’s having regular weigh ins as he gets back to full strength. I hope to get a proper small animal weighing scales and make the process more “operant”, as this time I just put him on them, but it would be great to get to the point where he is voluntarily stepping onto the scales.

First walk-in weigh-in last weekend! Bluebell seemed to enjoy her visit to pop onto the scales, although she’d rather we didn’t divulge her weight 😉. If you’re local to Hillcrest Stables, Ideford, you can make an appointment & pop in for a weigh in like Bluebell!

Salty Skylark!

Here is Larky with a sprinkling of the salty “dregs” after her salt therapy session.

I offer Newmarket Equine Salt Therapy in-house at our rehab facility, Hillcrest Stables. Local horses can be ridden over to us to enjoy the multiple benefits of salt therapy. They can also have a weigh-in while here!

Mobile salt therapy is available too, as long as you have electricity, and as suitable enclosed space.

My other services are physiotherapy, behavioural consultancies, and animal selection sessions (using herbs from EcoGreen Equestrian Ltd).

Powered by herbs! Skylark had a sweet itch flare up this year, but the amazing array of natural products from came to her rescue! Internally some of the herbs from Equus Health that she had were chamomile, marigold & clivers, seaweed & rosehip, echinacea, liquorice, and “itch relief”… Externally, a newer product, EcoGait’s “Skin Spray” really helped calm her skin when she needed that bit of extra help.
Of course, I carry out regular salt therapy for Skylark as well, but these natural supplements are one of the big pillars in keeping my girl well.

Sooo excited to have found Great Mullein in the garden! I made Mullein cough syrup 20 years ago! I can’t wait to do so again, just need a few more plants. It is a little known fact that herbal remedies are a huge part of my business, but they really are integral to what I offer.

I’ve been looking into these eyes a lot lately! Archie had a sarcoid treated above the other eye, with mitomycin treatment- the surrounding tissue had an inflammatory response, so his eyelid swelled up like a golf ball! He’s on strong anti inflammatories, which have done the trick, so the swelling is finally going down!

I’ve been supplementing with milk thistle seed powder from - milk thistle’s active compound, silymarin, has well documented liver and kidney boosting properties, as well as being high in antioxidants.
