Reanimate was originally founded with the title: Katie's Cradle in 2012 on the arrival of Katie to our premises. Katie was in extremely poor condition and in foal. With only 5 weeks til giving birth to her baby it was a battle against the odds. Katie gave birth to a gorgeous c**t on the 11th of May 2012 but sadly was unable to produce milk for him and was unable to get ba

ck up on her feet. We took over feeding the c**t whilst lifting Katie to her feet on a daily basis. Sadly Katie lost her fight to survive 7 days after the birth, this was a heartbreaking time with many emotions taking place, one of those emotions fired me up to try and make some kind of difference to these amazing animals that have given us as people so much over the years. Katie's Cradle was born. Since 2012, we have helped owners who found themselves in difficult circumstances by taking the horses in until such times as the owners were back on their feet. As time has went on, Katie's Cradle has taken a new route. Sharon has spent the past few years studying herd behaviour and researching new, kinder methods on working with horses, allowing her to gain invaluable insight into a more holistic approach in the world of rescue. We mainly take horses that have no chance in getting rehomed through ‘behavioural’ issues. These horses are put through the rehab process to safely interact with people and once ready, will become befriending horses covering many areas some of which include Equine Assisted Learning. Sharon has a unique talent in identifying and nurturing positive traits in each horse, this, including taking each horse back to as natural a lifestyle as we can possibly give them in this day and age, and covering the ethological, psychological and physical needs of the horse, helps to bring the horse to a workable level where they will go on to use their specific talent to help rehabilitate people who would find the process helpful. In May 2021, Katie's Cradle officially changed its name to Reanimate. Whilst the core vision of Reanimate will remain the same, the rebrand provides a fresh name, logo and strapline which more accurately reflect the service, values and recovery-impact they deliver. The name and memory of Katie - the mare the charity was named after in 2012 - will be retained by renaming the volunteer centre: Katie’s Rest. Sharon has had extensive experience working with people both in third sector and statutory posts and received extensive training in different areas. Previous posts include:

Argyll & Bute Council Social Services Substance Misuse Worker Covering Child Protection (Statutory). Sharon was in this post for 7 years covering Mid-Argyll, Kintyre & Islay and within this time was chosen by The Scottish Executive as having the best diversionary program of the time in Scotland for disaffected young people. In this post, Sharon worked closely with families and young people, had slots within the school setting (Social Education Classes) covering awareness raising for Substance Misuse Issues. Pembrokeshire County Council, Senior Youth Worker, running several Youth Clubs for the council. Training includes:

Our awareness raising campaigns will not only raise awareness of the current equine crisis hitting Britain but also raise awareness of a kinder way in working with horses. Early intervention is high on our priority where our education packages will be concerned. There will be more information on this as each project starts. We are environmentally friendly and encourage the reusing of materials and will be setting up projects to this effect. Katie gave birth to a gorgeous c**t on the 11th of May 2012 but sadly was unable to produce milk for him and was unable to get back up on her feet. We took over feeding the c**t whilst lifting Katie to her feet on a daily basis. Sadly Katie lost her fight to survive 7 days after the birth, this was a heartbreaking time with many emotions taking place, one of those emotions fired me up to try and make some kind of difference to these amazing animals that have given us as people so much over the years. The idea of Katie's Cradle was born.

Katie’s as a memorial to keep Katie’s name alive and Cradle because of the nurturing aspect.

It soon became clear that ‘troubled’ horses had the most amazing affect on ‘troubled’ people and therefore, when we went for Charitable Status we became a Multi-Dimentional Charity with four objectives.

· **************************ETHOS*********************** Our ethos is quite simple. We facilitate 'beings' in becoming whole again.

The horses that come under our care have in some way shape or form lost a large part of themselves along the way. Whether that be abuse, neglect, lack of care, compassion, or simply of no more use after a life of serving people. Some horses would fight back, some would become insular, some would become robotic and depressed. In all instances, these horses are at the mercy of other beings control. The horses are welcomed into the Katie's Cradle Herd, where they become 'part' of a larger unit. This falls in line with how horses should live naturally, as part of a herd.

Now, if we look at what has been spoken of above and then apply the same to people. Some people have suffered some form of trauma, illness or situation which can have an effect on their day to day lives, how they communicate with others and how they fit into their community. Some of the issues people can suffer from can have a debilitating effect on every aspect of their lives, from relationships to daily tasks. Some people find verbal therapies extremely difficult and that's where the horses help.
