Holistic Canine Training

I believe the foundation of a good relationship with your canine companion is built on positive training, the TTouch approach to training, and an active lifestyle. Positive Training: By using positive reinforcement you can develop a bond with your pet that is built on respect instead of fear. As a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy and a Clicker Training Partner, I beli

eve that training connects you to your canine companion on a level where you grow together in ways that improve the quality of both of your lives. A deep bond with your dog will be based on mutual understanding, caring, and respect—and those values are inherent in the clicker training process. Tellington TTouch: TTouch is a positive approach for caring and training your canine companion based on cooperation and respect. TTouch is a bodywork and training method based on circular movements of the fingers and hands all over your dog’s body. This method can improve performance and health while presenting solutions to common behavioral and physical problems that include things like fear of loud noises, pulling on leash, and anxiety. By using a combination of touches, lifts and movement exercises it can help to release tension and increase body awareness. This results in a pet that is mentally, emotionally and physically in balance. You will have a more confident pet; one that can think rather than react. Active Lifestyle: Ensures that the bond with your dog is maintained in a positive way through exercise, play, and quality time together. Games such as fetch, hide ‘seek, go find it enriches your dog’s playtime.

My beloved Cody crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Sat., Dec. 28th. It was a difficult decision but the right decision. It was his time to transition. He had a very peaceful passing at the Carp Rd Animal Hospital. It was nice for Cody to be surrounded by staff that loved him.

Cody was my KPA dog, TTouch demo dog, therapy dog, and Rally O partner. Most importantly, he was by my side for 14.5 years, sharing his love. He was the most gentle, sweet soul I ever met.

Ben and I must learn to navigate the days ahead without Cody. And that is going to be difficult.

Cody you were my sunshine, the "goodest" boy and will always be Mommy’s little darling.

RVWS is at a cross-roads. Donations are way down, and we’re operating with a deficit and insufficient staffing. We urgently need your help this holiday to ensure the Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary continues to operate next year and for years to come. With your support, we’re aiming to raise $100,000 from this year’s holiday campaign. We’re on the way, having raised $35,000 from Giving Tuesday donors and matching gifts, but we have a ways to go. Will you make a gift today? https://www.rideauwildlife.org/donate/

❤️ URGENTLY SEEKING A FOREVER HOME (Foster-to-adopt) ❤️

Meet Toby & Pearl. These 7.5yr old potcakes came into our care as puppies back in 2017. While in 99% of cases we do not adopt 2 puppies out to the same home, it became very clear to us while they were in our care and had been separated, that this pair was going to have the most success leaning on each other for confidence in their new life.

Unfortunately, Toby & Pearl’s owner suddenly passed away last December. Their caregiver is elderly and now needing to move into a facility in the next month, where Toby & Pearl cannot accompany him. They will need to come back into rescue care as soon as possible. It is a very heartbreaking situation for not only the family; but for the dogs.

We are urgently searching for an adoptive home for this bonded pair, as it would be detrimental to separate them at this point in their life. This will be a compassionate adoption, meaning there will be NO adoption fee for Toby & Pearl, we are simply in search of a quiet and patient home who can give them a safe place to land for their senior years. We feel it would be incredibly stressful for them to go to foster then to move again to an adoptive home, so someone interested in a foster-to-adopt is ideal.

Toby & Pearl will be 8 years old in December, and they are spayed and neutered. They are good with cats, and other dogs. They would be best suited to a home in a rural or quiet suburban setting. No children in the home please; as they have not had any experience around children. They are house trained and do not need to be crated. They are very shy with new humans, and take some time to become comfortable. It is imperative to their success that their new owner be very patient and allow them the time and space to become comfortable. While they are very fearful of new people, they do not show signs of aggression. Due to their age, they have a lower energy level and do not require loads of exercise.

If you can help and are interested in giving this special pair a home for their golden years, please fill out an application via our website: www.saveapotcake.com
