I've been a horrible cow mom this year!! I haven't been posting much lately... things have been changing a lot with the herd this year! Trying to wrap our minds around all of them and I completely forgot that I never even posted about the arrival of this little girl!!! Luna had another heifer this year! This is another Spot On (Reyna's dad) girl and you should be able to see a resemblance! It's crazy how close their markings are! We couldn't be more blessed to have another heifer on the ground out of Luna! Not only was our first Eclipse embryo a heifer but now she's continued those lines further 2x's on her own! We will continue to get more Blackie genetics back in our herd and we are thrilled for it to be happening a little faster than we anticipated! ❤️ this little moo even though her attitude might be as big as her mom's already!! 🫣🤣 Lord help us...

One of our least favorite days on the farm... a day that includes good-byes! So many changes happening in our herd lately... our numbers have gone down to a core group of what we believe is our best... and putting our best foot forward! It's been a rough road... not so easy decisions being made! At the end of the day our wellbeing and the quality of life for our animals is our priority! So today was another day of goodbyes 😢.

We have known for 2 weeks but since it was so close to her 14th birthday, yes I said 14, we waited!! We have been focusing our efforts on not losing this cows genetics! We made that decision a little over a year ago and it's been up and down since! After pulling her to the barn we didn't catch a heat cycle for a bit - but we finally got one! Then she went on a trip to start the process of trying to get embryos! Not going to lie with a cow pushing 14 we were already talking about a 2nd round. Fuzzy wasn't having ANY of that and we have NINE embryos with sexed heifer semen on this beautiful creature!! She's showing her age these days and having a calf on her own isn't good for her so it's almost time to let her rest! While that will be a tough day after having her around for over a decade - we can have some joy knowing we have the opportunity for daughters still! I still remember hauling her home as a calf - so many memories over the years! This cow has brought smiles, smirks, love, anger, cuss words, lessons, heartbreak, pride and laughter among other things while she's been with us! To say we love her is an understatement! It's been a rough couple of months getting through all of this and while I feared bad news instead of good she proved again why we wanted to save her genetics and came through in huge ways! She's a little bossy in her old age but we sure still ♥️ this big ol girl! Forever thankful for the chance to save her genetics like we did Blackie/Eclipse! Happy Birthday Fuzzy girl! The big 1-4 officially the oldest cow we've ever owned!

Welcome Kiran! It's been a bit crazy lately... but Katy did an awesome job and brought this little guy into the world! She's such a good momma and does great with safely allowing us to handle her calves! After everything with unexpectedly losing Elsie I decided a baby calf is some light that we needed! So I was searching for names meaning ray of light or light and Kiran stuck! It even sounds good with Katy so we'll take it! More later but both are well and he's growing just like the grass has been with the temps and sunshine!☀️

Happy New Year 🎆! There is a lot that could be said about 2023! We welcomed Reyna and Amaya into our 🌎! We were shocked by Amaya’s color! As you can see they’ve changed some from the beginning of the year to the end!

We were able to raise steers responsibly and provide a healthy 🥩 option for multiple families!

We ended the year with some tough decisions being made with our girls. We said goodbye to Scarlet, Ruby, Diamond, Roxx, Coco and Bambi. That’s been a tough pill to swallow but it was made with the hopes of a better 2024! So here’s to another year… our hopes for 2024 are healthy calves, successful flushing, pregnant cows/heifers, better numbers for 2025. Of course we’re planning for more shenanigans and reasons why we can’t have nice things! Those things are a given between the cattle and the cats!

The moo’s all in a row except for Luna, she’s doing her, not surprising lol! Vet was out today trying another embryo in Bambi! Eclipse’s embryo 12 went in… fingers crossed #12 brings us some luck!! For now they are out enjoying the breeze, grass and cooler temps!

In case you wonder how not so Lil Willie spends his days… he’s pretty spoiled! After all the time on house arrest 🤣 when he got shot shattering his shoulder he has spent a decent amount of time in there. We got him neutered and now he’s even more lazy! Don’t worry he still goes out plenty… hunting, climbing trees, pouncing on imaginary things and walking down the MIDDLE of the road from time to time! He gets yelled at often for testing his fate and is also reminded there’s no way he has THAT many lives left!! He’s always been a big sweet boy and today you’d never know that he was shot!! He lives a pretty good life as far as “barn cats” go!

Grazed vs not grazed! Snuck in the pasture to take the last wire down while the moo’s were having supper! We’ll see how long it takes them to figure out they have more fresh grass to eat 🤔 We’re confident they will all approve and the littles will be excited for new places to adventure!

82 bales yesterday and 130 bales up today… The mow at the barn is full! Audrey got to bale for the first time yesterday including a driving lesson! Proud of that girl for giving effort with everything that we asked of her! Don’t worry the cattle were in the barn supervising us putting the hay up tonight! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤣 It was a group effort and we’re thankful for all the help!! The cats are of course enjoying the hay chaff! 🤣 My watch also took about 30 screenshots and Siri talked to me too much! 🤣 Round 1 done! ✅ 🙌🏻

Diamond and Katy were both in standing heat not long from each other this morning. That led to a late afternoon breeding which apparently offended them! After we were done they left the barn without dinner! 🤣 They got into more of the pasture last night so that probably played a role. Also if you know our cattle you know they are food motivated 🤣 so they did get some feed in the process. We’re still shocked they went out ate grass and then laid down!
