This is how the best Purple Heads hatch out. Very different from other tangerines, and they don't look like much until about 30-35 grams. They are one of the best lines for holding their mature colors. This line is finally showing the consistency that I always hoped for.

This is the hobby's yearly reminder that Red diamonds are not dominant. If you cross them to something else it doesn't magically become a Red Diamond + whatever it's crossed to.. That is all.

Since a good amount of the breeders in this hobby have become two-faced high school girls, here's some public info about my "projects" that everyone should know. I don't go just crossing lines and calling them new marketing names - never have, never will. I take naming very seriously and if anything I restrain myself more than almost anyone out there. I'm always open to public criticism, but straight knowingly lying about my stuff needs to be addressed, and since these "friends" have to go behind my back, here we are. Thanks to all my my true friends that defend me against these people that seem to go after me like it's their new hobby.

-Purple head line: 15 years
-Gold Bold project: 11+ years (less than 9% Firebold lineage)
-Monarch project: All from my geckos dating back 10+ years. Less than 12% -Firebold lineage. Not just a tangerine bold rename like some are claiming with no evidence.

Here's just a few things I never put a fancy name on, but is deep rooted in many years of work here:
-Lavender Bold 15+ years
-Lavender Firebold Project - 10+ years
-Emerine project - Hatched randomly out of non-Emerines and still didn't give it a new name. 10+ years.
- Striped Tangerine Bells - 15 Years
-Red Stripe Trempers - 9 + Years
-Black Pearl/Charcoal/Black Nights - 10+ years
-Firebold/Red Diamond project - 5+ years
-Tangerine Bold Trempers - 10+ years

I have countless other inhouse projects/experiments that are years in the making. If you still think I go naming everything just to rebrand and sell then I'm sorry that you had to read this post. |
Pictured are the Emerine line geckos I made from scratch and never branded.

Time to play a game. Which gecko would you buy? With modern cameras/phones and editing software, photo deception is getting out of hand. Here are some examples of different levels of editing. It's getting to the point that it's become a science to decipher each breeder's photos. Here are a few things that can help:
1) Look closely at the gecko's carrot tail. If it looks too red then there's a good chance it is. Usually the carrot tail won't vary quite as much as body color from gecko to gecko.
2) Compare the gecko being sold to other examples of the line from other breeders. If they look different then the pictures are probably to blame.
3)Look at other geckos the breeder is selling. If they all look too good to be true they probably are.
4)Also pay attention to marketing names being used. A breeder stacking a bunch of marketing terms is out for the sale and probably lacks integrity when it comes to representing their animals honestly. (see my previous post about this)
I've always strived to take the best photos I can, but also the most accurate. It's a much better feeling when customers say the gecko looks better in person than the other way around. Lastly, try to not disregard breeders that don't take perfect photos and are accurately representing their animals. I know breeders that don't take the best photos, but they have some of the best geckos in the world.

If anyone wants to add some other warning signs to look out for please comment below.

Spent about 5 minutes browsing through the big online sales platform and have to say I feel a little sick with what I'm seeing. Pictured is a nice Black Night Red Diamond Gecko Genetics Mandarin Blood Afghan. Obviously, that sounds ridiculous, but this is where our hobby is heading. Stop stacking line names. If you breed a Blood to a Clown line the offspring aren't magically Blood Clowns like these lines are dominant. I'm starting to see 4-5 tangerine marketing/line names being stacked without even the word Tangerine in the description. Marketing/project names have always been somewhat of a problem, but it's gotten really out of hand lately. Why can't a nice Tangerine just be that anymore? Also, when did Black Nights get all these hets?

Just posted some really nice pure locality E. angramainyu. These are a must keep species for anyone keeping obscure geckos. They may look like your average leopard gecko over a screen, but they are very different. Separated by the Iranian Plateau and Zagros mountains from their sister taxon clade around 27 mya, makes them more divergent even than E. hardwickii (19 mya) and E. fuscus (14 mya). These are the true "Super Giants" of the Eublepharis genus getting to incredible sizes as they mature.
