Welcome to Cat Crusaders Feline Rescue's page! Our mission is to rescue and adopt abused, hoarded, neglected, injured and special needs cats and provide them a safe sanctuary where they can spend their lives being loved and spoiled. Our felines have come from rough beginnings: thrown away, abused, dumped, forgotten, neglected. Our special needs cats range from felines with asthma, feline

cognitive dysfunction (often referred to as kitty's Alzheimer's), feline herpesvirus, stomatitis, issues from being abused, and other conditions. None of these conditions make these felines any less worthy of love or of having a happy home and happy life. This is what Cat Crusaders Feline Rescue provides. We are always in need of cat supplies! We have a wish list on Amazon.com. You can contribute via Paypal for the unending vet bills and medications, and gift cards are always welcome- we scour stores for pet supplies on sale, markdown or clearance. Thank you for your support whether by following our page, your positive and supportive comments, and/or your donations. Your support allows us to continue to rescue and provide for our fur family, and for that we are fur-ever grateful!!

We lost our Pretzel yesterday.

Two weeks ago, she got sick and we took her to our vet's office for an examination. Our vet was unable to make a determination of what she had due to the inflammation in her mouth, but he was able to tell that it was either stomatitis or cancer. Pretzel was given three injections to reduce the inflammation, and we had to wait two very long weeks to take her back to be examined again.

Yesterday we were given the devastating news that the mass in Pretzel's mouth had grown since we were there previously, and we knew in a matter of only a couple more weeks, she would become much sicker. One of our lovely friends that works at our vet's office told us that cancer of the mouth in cats is very aggressive. Not wanting our girl to suffer, we knew we had to let her go.

Those of you who follow our page know that we have a pretty big cat crew, but each time we lose one, our house feels emptier. While we are grieving, we will also celebrate Pretzel's life. Although we wish we had longer, we had eight wonderful years with her. Four of her siblings passed before her, and she is now across the rainbow bridge reunited with them, and is now healthy once again.

We miss you so much, sweet Pretzel.

Heath looks so proud next to the box of Slide litter that we received from Courtney and Sophe. We're pretty sure he thinks he's guarding canned cat food, and we're not going to tell him otherwise!

Thank you very much, Courtney and Sophe!

We planned to post a picture of one of our black cats since yesterday was Black Cat Appreciation Day, but those who follow our page know it's not often that we can get Violet to cooperate with the camera. So when we managed to get a photo of her this morning, we knew we had to post her pretty face. Violet and the cat crew want to thank their Auntie Tallulah for the container of Churu Cat Treats. Our felines LOVE these and are going to enjoy them down to the last drop.

Thank you, Tallulah!

PHOTOBOMB!

Nutmeg couldn't resist getting in on this picture with Victoria and the BIG bag of Friskies that our friend Allison sent to us. Victoria is patiently waiting for a bowl of the kibble to be poured for her, but Nutmeg wants the human to open the bag right meow!

Thank you so much, Allison!

Look at all of that canned food! When our friend Tallulah sent us a Chewy gift card for Christmas, Kip and Levi immediately got online and did a bit of shopping and picked out some of their favorite flavors of Friskies. Although they are keeping a close eye on all of it, they are sweet boys (most of the time!) and promise to share with our other felines.

Thank you VERY much for the sweet surprise, Tallulah!

We try to post donations in the order we receive them, but we had to change what we planned to post today due to a CAT-astrophic event that occurred in our kitchen last night. We know without a doubt that it was one big cons-purr-acy.

The human was in the back room when she heard a loud crashing sound, and when she walked into the kitchen, she found lots of our felines in catnip heaven. We have no doubt that this was cleverly planned by our cat crew. Wesley has learned that knocking things off of the counter will sometimes cause the lid to break, which is exactly what happened here. Our cats rolled around in catnip for hours last night! Most were happy to allow others in on the fun, but Violet did NOT want to share with Nutmeg. In the end, they all got their fair share of the nip, and the human spent quite some time cleaning the kitchen floor this morning.

We are VERY grateful to Cynthia for sending us two containers of this high-powered, super-duper catnip. It's not often that all 39 of our felines are happy at the same time, but this did the trick. The cat crew sends tons and tons of deliriously gleeful thanks to you, Cynthia!

The human has a rule of no eating in bed, but I snuck these two bags of Purina Gentle Formula into the bedroom and plan to have myself a nice buffet. The kind lady who sent these wishes to remain anonymous-we only know that her first name is Dawn. We (and by "we", I mean "I", because I plan to keep these all to myself) want to send Dawn a big purr of thanks-we can never have too much kibble!

Sometimes the packages we get are so big that there isn't room to fit one of our cats in the photo, so we have to compromise.

Our friend Tallulah sent us a $200 gift card to Sam's Club, and these three packages of paper towels are just some of what we bought using the card.

We also received a surprise from Chewy-a painting of our Nutmeg! This is the second painting we've received from the company and we love both of them-they are proudly displayed in the human's bedroom.

Thank you to both Tallulah and Chewy for such amazing gifts!

The human lost count of how many pictures she took and how much time was spent trying to get Violet to face the camera. After reviewing the endless number of photos we took, this one was the best one we got-so it's the one we're posting!

Violet's back half would like to thank Susan for the three bags of Purina Gentle Formula she sent to us-she knows it's the favorite of our cat crew!

Pepper doesn't care for the camera-he prefers to stay in the background. We did manage to snap a photo of him with four bags of Purina Gentle Formula (his favorite!) sent to us by Vickie, and he and the cat crew want to send their thanks for Vickie's huge heart-she checks with us every month to see if we are in need of Purina.

Pepper also wants to let everyone know that he is not the feline responsible for all of the scratch marks on the human's wooden rocking chair-what's left of it, anyway.

Happy Caturday, everyone!

Sadie is our oldest feline. She is very set in her ways - she loves dinnertime, sleep and snuggles with the human. She doesn't like the other cats (uh oh!).

On occasion, she will surprise us and decide she wants to play - and we caught her in the act the other day. She loves this cat dancer sent to us from Rosanne for Christmas. We now have two cat dancers, and they have become a favorite toy with our cat crew.

Thank you for the fun gift, Rosanne!

Hello friends! We are SO grateful to all of you for all for the outpouring of support during Amazon Prime Days-the response was overwhelming!

A majority of packages we received arrived in rough shape (pretty much what you see in the video), and we are trying to sort through everything and figure out who sent what. We plan to contact everyone in the next two or three days to thank each of you for your generosity. If you don't hear from us by the end of the week, PLEASE reach out to us to let us know-several packages we received didn't have any note inside indicating who the sender was. We want to make sure to express our thanks to you!

While the human has happily been making room for all of the lovely donations, Juniper and the rest of the cat crew are having a terrific time with SOOOOO MANY BOXES!

Hello friends! Today is one of our favorite days-it's Amazon Prime Day! There are a handful of Prime deals on our wish list that we hope we can stock up on while they're on sale. We are almost out of canned food (gasp!), and we are running very low on litter.

If anyone would like to see our updated wish list, we've posted the link below. We are SO grateful to all of you for the support!

Iman is waiting for the human to open one of the four bags of Purina Gentle Formula that we received from Vickie. With Elliott now on prescription only food, we have to hide the other food when he comes in from the cattery. Our other cats are NOT happy about this! But we're managing. It's rough for our cat crew to eat only every couple of hours -it's a rough life!

Thank you so much, Vickie!

Another week, another trip to the vet. Jypsy was not feeling well over the weekend, and on Sunday evening we discovered an abscess at the base of her back end right at her tail. Off to the vet we went on Monday, where she was treated and is feeling much, much better. We caught her in all of her adorableness this morning right as she was waking up.

Yesterday we posted what we think was the last of our purr-thday party gifts-sort of. We had four items that came without notes: a bag of Purina Gentle Formula, A pack of Weruva variety pack canned food, a box of Slide Platinum litter, and a case of Friskies Indoor Formula variety pack. If you sent any of these to us, please reach out to us to let us know-we want to make sure to give thanks for your presents to our cat crew! Also, if we somehow overlooked posting something sent to us by anyone, please, please, please message us. The human does her best to hold on to the notes in the boxes we receive, but from time to time they fall out of the box, or our cats like to "rearrange" the notes or carry them off.

Thank you all for your generosity! EVERYTHING we receive is always such a huge help in taking care of our felines.

Happy July 4th, everyone! We're celebrating by staying indoors out of the stifling heat! Our cat crew will be indoors tonight as well since there are people in our neck of the woods that pop fireworks for the holiday.

Shortcake has found his comfy spot on top of three bags of Purina Gentle Formula that our friend Susan sent for our purr-thday party. Our felines will feast on it this evening for sure. Thank you so much, Susan!

Look who's home and feeling better! Our Elliott spent five days at the pet emergency hospital, and even when he came home, he still wasn't feeling his best. It's been just short of two weeks since we almost lost him, and we are so glad to say that he is doing very well. If it wasn't for his little shaved front leg where his IV was inserted, you wouldn't know that he was so critical only a few days ago.

Elliott is now required to be on prescription food for the rest of his life. This is proving to be very tricky, as we are now forced to pick up all bowls that contain the dry kibble we keep out for our cat crew. They are not happy! But we want to make sure Elliott never has to go through another urinary blockage again.

Thank you all so much for the well-wishes and prayers for Elliott.....they are so appreciated!

19/06/2024

We aim to post weekly, but missed this past week. Two weeks ago, Elliott needed veterinary care for a urinary tract infection. He improved post-treatment until Friday evening when he started frequenting the litter box, suggesting a recurrence of the infection. By Saturday, there was no change, but by Sunday morning, his condition had severely deteriorated. Within three hours, he progressed from crying out in pain to being unable to stand. With our vet and all nearby veterinary offices closed on weekends, we rushed him to the nearest animal emergency clinic, over an hour's drive away.

The staff immediately took Elliott to a room and started treatment. The veterinarian treating Elliott believed he could return home by Tuesday. However, he continues to suffer from severe urinary blockage issues. It's important to note that male cats, particularly those that are neutered, are at times susceptible to urinary tract infections that can rapidly result in a blockage. Such a blockage can be fatal within just a few days, making it crucial to obtain immediate medical attention.

We receive updates from the veterinary staff at the emergency clinic twice daily. The update from last night was disheartening—Elliott remained blocked and had not eaten. However, this morning brought slightly more encouraging news—he had consumed some food overnight, and there were indications in the litter box that he had managed to relieve himself. The little rascal even succeeded in removing his catheter by himself (for a second time!), leading the vet to opt against inserting a third one and instead observe how Elliott fares without it.

We will let you all know what happens in the next few days. Our hope is that our next post will be that Elliott has been able to come. Please keep our sweet boy in your thoughts.

Happy Fri-yay, everyone!

Guess what we got on Saturday? Rain! Guess what we got on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday? MORE RAIN! There were lots of thunderstorms this week-but not to worry. Our cats were safe inside and stayed busy by having an adventure-they went on a sniffari with these incredible Melon Madness Puzzle and Play games. We loaded the games with treats, and our felines used their natural foraging instincts to find them. It was so much fun to watch them figure out the puzzles!

These were sent to us by Jeannie for our annual purr-thday party, and they were a HUGE hit with our cat crew. Jeannie, thank you for providing not only exciting games for our cats, but for also providing something to help keep their minds off of the thunder!

31/05/2024

So.Much.Rain. Y'all, our area of Texas can't get a break! Last night we had a very intense storm blow through with lots of thunder and rain, and some very intense wind. The moment the skies turned dark, we brought our cats in from the cattery where they were safe in our house.

Having 39 cats inside is hard! They have different personalities, some are young and want to play, some are older and want to sleep, and not all of our felines get along. That's where toys and catnip come in handy. Last night we brought out one of their favorite toys, the cat dancer, sent to us by Cynthia Bond Boldt for their purr-thday party. This toy is fantastic! Our cats jump and swat and play with this magical toy until they are worn out! It's a wonderful toy for keeping their minds off of scary storms, too.

Cynthia, thank you for such a terrific toy! The cat dancer has provided our cat crew with hours and hours of play time!

Y'all! It's hard to believe we're in May, and we are STILL posting gifts from our purr-thday party! We'll try to get the remaining presents posted in the next couple of weeks.

We managed to snap a photo of our elusive Pepper today along with some lovely gifts from our friend Leslie. She sent our cat crew a bag of Purina Gentle Formula, a 30 pack of Fancy Feast canned food, and a container of Ready Cal High Calorie Topper for Cats. This is a wonderful energy booster for kitties that are under the weather - and we have used it several times. Thank you for all of the goodies, Leslie!

We are extremely late in posting this week, but the human has been busy! This year, our area has had historic flooding, and more rain is forecasted for the coming week. The rain has brought lots of unwelcome "guests", including wolf spiders and a funnel spider in our cattery, four red wasps nests also in the cattery, and mice making nests under the hood of the human's car and lawn mower. Mice have been known to chew through engine wires and cause thousands of dollars in repairs, and the human has been working fervently to humanely flush out the mice in hopes they will move on.

Today the wasp nests came down, and so did the tarps we had wrapped around the cattery for the winter. Our cats are so happy to be able to see out of the cattery! Magic looked especially pleased and hopped up on an upper level to enjoy the view. We've got a lot of work to do in the cattery in the coming weeks, and we look forward to our felines being able to enjoy sunny days basking in the sun.

Who remembers our last rescue, which happened just over a year ago? Kip and Kye were incredibly sick three week old kittens. Today they are healthy, happy, and full of energy! These boys blossomed into handsome, sweet cats. We are so glad they are a part of our great big fur family.

Wink!

Onyx is giving a wink of appreciation to Jan and Susan for each sending a pump for our water fountains that our cat crew loves to drink from. We had two that broke before our purr-thday party, and we had another two stop working afterwards - so these have been a huge help!

Thank you both so much for making sure our felines are getting water from their favorite drinking source!

23/04/2024

What to do when it's storming and we can't go out in the cattery? We play with the super-fun toy that Susan gave us for our purr-thday party!! This toy has so many different features! Our favorite is the butterfly that flutters. There's also a feather that darts in and out of holes on the side of the toy, and there are balls to play with on the track on the bottom of it. There's a piece that can be snapped onto the underside of the toy that makes it wobble. We have so much fun playing! Thank you very much, Susan, for such a fantastic present!

Yesterday was National Pet Day. Although we missed posting, we didn't miss the holiday, and had a little celebration with our cat crew.

Bailey celebrated by making himself comfortable on top of the laundry that the human just washed. And folded. But didn't quite get it put away. Looks like our weekend will be spent doing more laundry. :)

We try to post pictures of a different feline of ours as much as possible, but not all of them are fond of the camera-except for Wesley. We can always count on him to strike a pose.

Today Wesley is showing off this absolutely fabulous step stool sent to us by Jan for our purr-thday party. It's the best! It helps the human reach the top shelves of the cabinet where our cat snackies are kept. It also serves as a modeling platform for Wesley.

Thank you very much, Jan!!
