People For Animals Agra (in short PFA Agra) is an animal welfare organisation that spearheads a popular movement for respecting all life on this earth and is a small but crucial part of India's growing environment awareness. PFA Agra is the Agra chapter of the Animals welfare NGO started by India’s popular animal activist Ms.Maneka Gandhi. PFA Agra has been in operation since 1998 and has, since t

hen, come a long distance from its humble beginnings. In the initial days we had no staff, no premises and no resources. The only thing that we did have was our love for animals and a desire to help them in their suffering. We aimed to create a safe haven for these poor souls, where they could live in peace without fear of cruelty. From treating animals on the roadside, we have reached a stage where we run a full-fledged animal hospital which was completed in July 2003.

A puppy with a big chest wound full of maggots. Unfortunatly this is not the only case. We get many such cases and it never stops. Sometimes the puppy is attacked by other stray dogs, some get wounded due to accidents - reasons can be many. We try to take in as many as possible. And to maintain this infrastructure we need as many animal lovers as possible to help us out financially..

On 12th June we sadly bid goodbye to Cherry, one of our oldest resident. She came to us around 2010. Everyone who visited us knew her story. A well wisher had brought her from a neighbouring village. She was a victim of cruelty. A drunk had used a knife to gauge both her eyes out. She has been with us since that day. She has always been a bright, lively furry, always responding to her name. She was much loved in the shelter. The staff gave their best in looking after her. Old age finally took over. In her last few days they did their best to keep her as comfortable as possible. It is with moist eyes we bid her a happy journey over the rainbow bridge, to a place where happiness reigns. Run Cherry with seeing eyes and please, we pray that you now become our guardian angel.

Our Story

PFA Agra is a non-government organisation who gets absolutely no funds from the government for running this shelter and helpline. From treating strays on the streets, to giving shelter to abandoned and disabled animals in the shelter, this is what we have done. Our shelter is one place where they don’t have to be scared of anything. We are neither doing this because it is a noble cause and nor it is our profession. We do it because NOT doing anything was not an option. We feel the pain of an animal in our body, we feel the helplessness of an animal in our hearts; animal lying on the roadside, crying for help. After feeling all this, we had no choice but to reach out and help. In the beginning, we used to bring a suffering animal to our house and nurse it back to health. From there we grew and today we have an animal hospital where we treat thousands. We wanted to reach out to as many distressed animals as we could in this lifetime. Blessed are we, that we are able to do all this thanks to donors like you!! Please help us continue with our efforts for the sake of our strays and PLEASE SHARE THIS FUNDRAISER IN YOUR GROUP AND BECOME THEIR VOICE!

PFA Agra houses more than 200 strays in the shelter whom we look after. Most of these strays are either disabled or injured or sick or orphaned. For most of them, PFA Agra is their only home. Please help us stand strong for them and let us make sure this shelter keeps standing for them. Salaries for the staff, food expense, medical expense etc, it all comes down to around INR 2,50,000 to INR 3,00,000 a month (~USD 4600 or EUR 4000 ). This is not something we can do alone and we need the help of the community to help us maintain this infrastructure. If we stop this shelter and helpline, the strays lose their only lifeline and one organisation trying hard to stand up for them in a country where animal welfare is still not the highest priority. PLEASE HELP US HELP THEM!!
