MISSING GREYHOUND from the Pelham's Crossing Subdivision, Fredericksburg, VA

Details:
*9 year old tuxedo greyhound.
*65 pounds, she's a smaller greyhound.
*She's gone a bit gray in her face
*Wearing a purple 1 inch collar.
*She's chipped.

She was last seen on the east side of the Pelham's Crossing neighborhood near the woods. Those woods back up to some houses, a townhouse community, and ultimately Route 2. She has not been seen since Wednesday around 1pm.

We think she may be traveling through the wooded areas surrounding our neighborhood, but can't confirm it.

She may have crossed Route 2 or Benchmark Road leading to more subdivisions and/or miles of wooded battlefields. So, the more eyes the better. We're hoping she gets tired and comes out for food or shelter and shows up on a ring cam or somebody can actually see her.

If you see her, please let me know, 24/7! 540-538-9868.

Please print/share the flyer if you can. The more eyes that see it, the better.

I've attached the flyer and a map so you can get an idea of the area where we're at.

UPDATE: Cash has found a new home. Thanks to everyone who responded with interest.

CASH NEEDS A NEW HOME!!!

Cash (formerly Boc's Goldberg) is a beautiful fawn male that was returned due to no fault of his own. He currently weighs 104 pounds but is on a diet to lose at least 10 pounds. He was born on January 7, 2015 which means he turned 9 a few months ago.

Cash has recently been to the vet and is very good health. He's very gentle and sweet-natured and gets along well with cats and dogs of all sizes.

Cash is currently being fostered in Sterling. If you think you have room in your heart and home for this big boy, please contact Katie Thompson at 703-898-1291, reply to this post or send us a PM. We will do our best to answer any questions you may have.

Lenny Needs A New Home

Lenny (DOB-4/20/2015) is a black and white male cowdog (approximately 74 pounds) who was adopted in December 2018 along with his half-sister Sunny. He was released from the track after breaking his leg and had no resulting mobility issues. In terms of other medical issues, Lenny had one of his middle digits amputated in 2022 when he injured it while running. This has not affected him in any way. Lenny suffers from anxiety from loud noises particularly thunder and fireworks, and when he senses a pending storm, he will find a quiet and dark place where he will remain for the duration. He has been prescribed 100-200 mg Trazadone as necessary for this condition. Overall, he has remained in excellent health.

Lenny does not require much attention as he tends to a be a “sleeper” for most of the day. He is not a finnicky eater. In terms of walking and exercising, he is quite well-behaved when he is by himself; however, he will bark and become very excited when he sees other dogs. When kenneling Lenny (and his sister), he has always been very good other than this one time on February 4 in which he bit Sunny.

Lenny will do best as an only dog. If you have no other pets and are interested in adopting Lenny, please send us a private message.

**********EXCITING NEWS! ******

James River Greyhounds is very fortunate to continue placing NGA Retired Racing Greyhounds because of our on-going relationships with the racing greyhound owners, kennel owners, kennel trainers/handlers and the many individuals who have been a part of the racer’s life.

As a PRO-Racing adoption group, we continue to support the industry and all the individuals who continue to make a positive impact upon these awesome athletes! We are forever GREYTFUL for being able to be a part of their next chapter of retirement!

The Board of JRG has been in contact with the respective Boards of selective adoption groups that are functioning primarily as a support group for any retired racing greyhounds within their area (some of these groups are receiving a limited number of NGA racers and racers from both Ireland and Australia).

Each Adoption Board is very excited to extend the invitation to previous adopters/families of the following adoption groups to apply with James River Greyhounds if they are interested in bringing another NGA retired racer into their lives.

Blue Ridge Greyhound Adoption
Greyhound Pets of America-Charleston
Greyhound Crossroads
Greyhound Friends Of North Carolina
Greyt Expectations Greyhound Rescue
Maine Greyhound Placement Service
Old Dominion Greyhound Adoption
Virginia Greyhound Adoption

To begin the process, complete an Adoption Application https://jamesrivergreyhounds.wufoo.com/forms/jrg-previous-adopter-application/ which will indicate your prior adoption group. The JRG adoption coordinator will then reach out to the corresponding group point of contact for confirmation and be in touch with next steps!

If you have any questions prior to applying, please email [email protected] and we are happy to help with the process!

Let's work together to match you with your next retired racer! We look forward to hearing from previous greyhound adopters of these groups!

Do you want to add a new fast friend to your family?

Roman is a 79 pound white and brindle male who will turn 4 next week. He was recently adopted locally, but unfortunately his new home is not the right place for him. Roman is super sweet and playful, especially when he is out running in his yard, but is definitely alpha and a little headstrong. He also has sleep startle so he needs an experienced male leader and must be an only dog.

If you are interested in adopting Roman, please contact Katie Thompson at 703-898-1291 or email [email protected].

16/02/2022

The National Greyhound Association is pleased to announce that Pet Transfer is now available online. It is a streamlined form that allows pet parents to change the ownership of their greyhound into their name.

Greyhound Pet Parents will receive a “suitable for framing” registration certificate with generational pedigree, one-of-a-kind identity bertillion, whelping date, color and s*x along with registered and Pet name.

For a limited time, they are including a 2022 NGA Ambassador Membership for each household that registers their NGA bred greyhound into their name.

Any tattooed NGA bred greyhound can be registered as a pet greyhound, regardless of whether they were registered as a racing individual or not. They can also retroactively transfer greyhounds that may have passed on over the rainbow bridge. This would be a nice way to honor greyhounds past, present and future.

The cost is $40. Ten Dollars ($10) of each transfer will be sent back to BRGA. There is a drop-down listing the Responsible Adoption Partners endorsed by the NGA so look for and select Blue Ridge Greyhound Adoption.

We have a few spots left in our Basic Manners Classes specifically geared to greyhounds. (It’s really to train the humans.) Every dog is different and every dog learns in his or her own way. This class will help you understand how your dog learns, so you can develop fun ways to teach them basic manners.

The first class will be on getting your greys attention. This will be a prerequisite to all subsequent classes. The next class will cover wait; the third class will cover come. All training will be using fun games and a positive attitude. So bring your grey, some super high-value treats and their favorite toys and plan to have fun learning how to communicate with your greyhound.

All who attend will be required to sign a liability waiver.

I was on a United Airlines flight to Florida and lo and behold what did I see in the Hemispheres magazine but one of our BRGA members. I was so excited and thought I would share.

Jason and Patrick have adopted two greyhounds from us and they own a bakery and cafe in Charlottesville VA called MarieBette Cafe.

If you get an opportunity, it is well worth the drive to visit MarieBette, you will enjoy!
