Tony Baloney is in da house! If it wasn’t clear before, it’s probably occurring to you now that we have a slight penchant for German Shepherds! And if you do too, NOW is the time to schedule a visit to Camp Lily’s! 🐾 (We really don’t have a camp, but we have lots of dogs hangin out!) 😏

If you don’t know about German Shepherds, contrary to what many people think, they aren’t scary, untouchable, aloof animals. They are actually very intelligent, extremely loyal, protective of their loved ones, energetic and intuitive. They are very gentle with their family members and bond deeply. Having a GSD is a very rewarding experience. Did we mention these dogs can be goofballs too? Such may be the case at times with Mr. Tony, pictured here.

Tony is 7-years young and just over 100 pounds. Sadly, he was picked up as a stray in Oakland. He’s gorgeous! He must’ve lost the directions to his casting call, lol. He really is a handsome guy.

Tony is the total package. He is crate trained, house trained, and knows basic commands like “sit, stay, down, and wait.” He loves snuggling, going for walks, and playing with a ball. He is food and toy motivated, and loves to please his people.

Tony does well with other dogs, with proper introductions. He loves playing chase with his foster sister. He would do great in a loving home that provides him with some mental and physical exercise, combined with lots of love. Want to give him that? Call us! Just when ya think a German Shepherd can’t get any more lovely, this one comes along!

BAMBI came from the Silicon Valley as an owner surrender and was marked as “unwanted.” Um Huhhhhh!?!????😭

This beautiful and sweet 7-year old, 50-pound girl will charm your sox off instantly! Unwanted hrmpfffft!!! 😡

Let’s see…how to describe; easy going, cuddly, comfortable, quiet, affectionate, heart-stealing, and happy. Bambi loves to play a quick little game of fetch, but then she’s done. She mostly wants to be around people and kinda be a couch potato so she can give and get some lovin. Ear rubs and b***y scratches will make her lie like a baby in your arms and bond with you in the most rewarding way. You in??? Let us know quick! She’s a love! 😍

Ready to meet our newest addition? How cute is Hachi, this 10-year old shepherd mix?! 🐕

Sadly, Hachi found himself at the shelter after his owner moved and didn’t take him with. 😞 Fortunately, we were alerted to him at a time when several dogs had just been adopted, we had room, and we were happy to take him in!

🚨 We are completely full and urgently need your help to find forever homes for the homeless animals of Contra Costa County. To make this possible, we’re extending our hours this week - please reference the photo below. That makes our shelter open 6 days so our furry friends have even more chances to be adopted! ❤️ You’re not just giving one pet a home; you’re helping us care for even more animals in need.

W just checked in with MOLLY’S foster. She’s doing great! But she definitely needs a home. Wouldn’t she look cute in pics under the tree?

Here’s what her foster most recently had to say, “She recently stayed with my parents while I had a work trip, and they said she would bark at them until the would pet her!” So cute! “Once you acknowledge her, it’s Game on! She will just get closer and closer until she’s licking you and laying in your lap.” Awww. 🥰 Sounds as delightful as ever!

Molly was an owner surrender, and has been thriving while in foster care. She would love her own permanent home and person(s) for the holidays. Great with all people, other dogs, and walks well on a leash. Oh, and as cute as can be! Call us! 707-787-7010; [email protected]

So happy together!!!

Rufus was previously returned from his prior adopter, and many hearts were broken, but sometimes, there’s a bigger and better plan in the works that none of us are aware of. That’s definitely what happened here!

Two very loyal “lab lovers” contacted us, after having lost one of their own a few weeks ago. They live in Foresthill on some land with 2 horses, and a senior black lab named Aspen.

They made the trip to Lily’s with Aspen in tow, and upon arriving, Rufus instantly captured their hearts with plenty of kisses for Aspen and wags and wiggle-butts for everyone else! It was literally love at first sight for everyone and Rufus jumped right in the car, ready to go! He now has a full time dog-sibling, and 2 pawrents who are home full time to help quell his separation anxiety. We couldn’t be happier for this fearless foursome. Sending love and congrats to all! 🥰

Who doesn’t love a big ol’ sweet black lab named Freedom!? Just look at this boy!!! 😍

Freedom just joined the Lily’s whimsical cast of characters this past week, after his owner could no longer care for him, and kind friends stepped in and brought him to Lily’s. He’d been with his owner previously since he was just 5 weeks old, and he is 8 now! 💙

Freedom was very clearly well loved by his previous owner, and he is an affectionate and energetic boi, who loves to swim, chase balls, is good in the car, on a leash and house trained. TT is described as a “Bearded Collie” 🤔 but it’s hard to say, as he was covered in so many foxtails and burrs, he needed quite the Nair treatment. 😉 He even had several in his ears, poor Timmy! He was picked up as a stray, but is in good spirits, tho a bit timid and shy.

Tiny Tim is 8-years young and weighs about 60 pounds, and we think he’s cute! He’s got a lovable side, enjoys treats, does well on a leash, and is JUST starting to settle in. We’ll share more as we learn more—or you could just come adopt or foster him and find out for yourself! What the world needs now is Buzz, sweet Buzz! Please come and meet him. You WILL fall head over heels. 👠 ❤️ Buzz had a family that he adored. Children, the works, they had a change in their life that necessitated them giving him up, and he has been searching for love ever since. 🥺 All he wants to do is please you! He knows basic commands; sit, down, shake, roll over, gaze adoringly into your eyes…(you get the gist).😉 This boy is just not getting the chance he deserves because truthfully, no one has come out to meet him. We know it’s likely his large presence and stereotypical breed reputation, but we promise, he ain’t that! 😏 So if you’re looking for a mean old, badas* police dog, look elsewhere, lol. 👮‍♀️ But if you want a big old cuddler love bug who only wants to make you happy and be near you, please call us and come see for yourself! 707-787-7010; [email protected] 💙

This is petite and handsome Waylon! If he looks familiar, it’s because he was previously adopted as Travis, but he was recently returned. No finger pointing here; Waylon would just do best in a relatively quiet and somewhat predictable household. Even tho Waylon looks like a youthful pup, he is still a senior dog, and it’s easy to forget that, even for us volunteers. That being said, Waylon is as sweet as can be and just wants a family and home of his own. He’s good with other dogs, good on a leash, and loves life! We were alerted to a beautiful senior GSD in Kern who had been dumped near Bakersfield and was lame in her back legs. We were full at the time but wanted to help. We put the word out for a foster and found an angel willing to step up! We were able to pull this stunning girl named Danish, and off to the vet she went. There, they discovered a TEN POUND tumor impinging on her spine, among other things, that had to be removed, tho the surgery was very risky…We are beyond happy to tell you that she survived and is walking now and on the road to recovery! AND her foster is already so enamored with her that she wants to adopt her. 🥰 Due to the magnitude of the tumor and the complexity of the surgery, we are asking our followers if they might be willing to donate towards Danish’s veterinary care and hospital stay, which ran upwards of $5000.00. If you are able to donate, it’s an easy process off our website; lilyslegacy.org. If you are unable to donate, we understand. Pawsitive thoughts and prayers for Danish’s continued recovery would go a long way as we watch her continue to recover and thrive. 🌺

Wanda with the golden eyes that see with so much love. How does she do it? After being abandoned, then catching pneumonia at the shelter, coming to us where we almost lost her to her illness, and now having blossomed into this intuitive, cooperative, confident, compliant, caring, playful and loving rare and precious blooming flower, Wanda is as good as they get! Only better. 🌻 At 9-years old and just 64 pounds, she’s the perfect size for anyone! She’d fit in with a family, or a couple, or a single person looking for a sidekick to live life with. There’s something so special about this girl! Oh, and did we mention she has Grinch feet? A dog named Hunky Dory has gotta be extra special! And boy, he sure is! Look at this handsome, sweet goofball that came to us this week from SFACC, and everyone has fallen in love with him. HD is a 7-year old pitty mix, who was picked up as a stray and never claimed. All the feels came from Navarro’s adopter’s last update; “Navarro is doing so well. Yesterday, we started walking around our block twice a day, staying away from this heat. He is just so gentle and sweet…He did fantastic being in the crate for four hours today while I taught. He was just hanging out when I got home. We just got back all the professional photos that @kormylopuppyproject took for us, and since we are all so smitten with Gemma, we thought we’d share hers first in the hopes they might make you feel the same! 🥰 She’s such a darling girl. She just wants to be WITH you, and do whatever! It’s such a delight knowing this about her, and learning over time, that she is truly just a love whose personality can be shaped to some extent by her owner, as she aims to please. Gemma is 7, and about 80 pounds. She could use a strong leader on leash walks, and would love any and all adventures, including hikes and swimming too.
