Please join us in welcoming our newest pack member, Missy (LBACS #A476755).
On 11/24/2024 this sweet senior was picked up as a stray in Long Beach, CA. When the team @lbanimalcare ran her microchip, they learned that she briefly stayed with them as a pup 12 years ago. Missyâs âownersâ redeemed her back in 2012, but when the shelter reached out to them this time around they denied even knowing her. Leaving Missy, a 13-year-old with mobilty issues without a home for the holidays. đ¤Ź
The shelter is a tough environment for any dog, but a cold, hard kennel floor is especially difficult for a 13 -year-old with medical needs (stiff gait, hindlimb weakness/ataxia, cutaneous masses and mild incontinence). If you follow us you know that senior dogs have always had a special place in our hearts. While Missy wasnât a dog we had planned to feature in our Give the Gift of Home 12 Day focus, when the shelter put out a rescue plea for this lovely, vintage lady, we knew we wanted to help. First weâd needed to find her a long-term foster. As it would turn out, Missy was already working on that part. đ
Thanks to a big-hearted shelter volunteer (and her family), Missy will have the opportunity to live out her days on a comfy bed in a warm home surrounded by people who love her.
Missy will see our vet next week for a full evaluation. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to help us keep Missy comfortable, we would be very grateful.

Meet Dupree. Give him the gift of home this holiday season by adopting, fostering, or (if you are part of a rescue organization with an open spot) bringing him into your pack. Letâs work together to find Dupree the loving home he truly deserves.
Dupree is a three-year-old male Alaskan Malamute mix who was found the evening of 5/11/24 in LB. The streets were unkind to him. He needed to be patched up by the shelterâs medical team because it seemed like this friendly guy may have encountered other dogs that werenât so interested in playing nice.
Dupree is an incredibly sweet dog with all kinds of personality. He loves playing with his toys, but heâs also a bit of a planner: At one point, Dupree will decide itâs time to start inspecting the perimeter of the yard for a place to stash his prized possession. With meticulous care, heâll tuck it into the gravel or dirt. After all, Future Dupree is gonna wanna play with that and heâd hate to disappoint him. People love Dupreeâs expressive face and he loves the people. He also enjoys long walks and hanging with his dog friends.
If Dupree speaks to you and youâre in a position to foster until he is fully decompressed and adopted, we want to hear from you! As a reminder, fostering is free and youâll receive the training support and education youâll need to succeed as a foster. If youâve been considering fostering a dog in need, now is the time. Let us know youâd be willing to open your heart and home to this dog in need by submitting a foster application through our website. https://www.k9kismet.org.
Always a big supporter of the communityâs dogs, @zoomroomlb in Long Beach, California is sponsoring Dupreeâs adoption fee, and offering adopters a free assessment, and one free private training session! In addition to that, we are teaming up with @friendsoflongbeachanimals to send him home with a care package, complete with a collar, leash, bed, blanket, Kong, treats, and poop bags.

Meet Downtown. Give him the gift of home this holiday season by adopting, fostering, or (if you are part of a rescue organization with an open spot) bringing him into your pack. Letâs work together to find Downtown the loving home he truly deserves.
Downtown was shy and nervous when he first arrived at the shelter, but with a little TLC and some help from other dogs in his playgroup, his puppy side quickly came out. Fortunately, this handsome guy is extremely friendly and cuddly since he has the kind of soft coat that makes it hard to stop petting him once you start. Downtown loves playing with toys almost as much as he loves hanging with people and other dogs. Heâs a smart, young dog who knows his basics and quickly learns new cues and commands. This sweet boy is more than ready for his forever home.
If Downtown speaks to you and youâre in a position to foster until he is fully decompressed and adopted, we want to hear from you! As a reminder, fostering is free! Our friend and trainer @robertvillaneda has generously offered to provide the training support and education youâll need to succeed as a foster. So, if youâve been considering fostering a dog in need and enjoy learning new things, now is the time! Let us know youâd be willing to open your heart and home to this dog in need by submitting a foster application through our website. https://www.k9kismet.org.

Meet Lillybrook. Give her the gift of home this holiday season by adopting, fostering, or (if you are part of a rescue organization with an open spot) bringing her into your pack. Letâs work together to find Lillybrook the loving home she truly deserves.
Lillybrook was picked up as a stray on 10/28/24. She had significant road rash and large lacerations to her left shoulder, leg, torso, and underbelly on intake. Lillybrook recovered at the shelter and was adopted out on 11/16/2024. Just two days after being adopted, Lillybrook was picked up again by Animal Control Officers. Shockingly, she had new, more significant lacerations upon intake the second time. Long story short, this girl needs a win.
Lillybrook has clearly been through the ringer, but she is a happy, resilient little pup. This smart girl knows her basics, makes excellent eye contact, likes to play with toys, and loves people. Due to her injuries, she hasnât been able to participate in play groups but when she sees another dog she lights up and seems eager to play.
If Lillybrook speaks to you and youâre in a position to foster until she is fully rehabilitated and adopted, we want to hear from you! As a reminder, fostering is free! We cover all expenses. We also provide the training support and education youâll need to succeed. Let us know youâd be willing to open your heart and home to this dog in need by submitting a foster application through our website: www.k9kismet.org.

Not all heroes wear capes. Some heroes get married on a Saturday and drive out to pick up their new foster dog on a Monday. đ
That's right, folks. Our boy Levi has scored himself an AMAZING foster home!
A HUGE heartfelt thank you to @robertvillaneda for taking Levi in when he needed refuge. With Robert's help, Levi had the opportunity to fine tune his skills. Heâs is more than ready to get back into a home and be someoneâs beloved family member.

In August, Ellie joined our pack after being shot in the head. One of the most traumatic events imaginable. Thanks to a medical foster stepping up to offer her a safe place to recover, Ellie was able to receive the surgery she desperately needed. Now that her physical wounds have healed, it's time to help her become her most confident and secure self.
Over the next four weeks, Ellie will be working with trainer @robertvillaneda to learn the skills she needs to thrive. We are currently seeking a long-term foster or adopter who will support Ellie after she completes her program. Fostering/adopting Ellie will come with the unique opportunity to work one-on-one with one of the best trainers in the state (at no cost to you). In addition, our friends @larpbo are donating three free group classes to ensure Ellie's success as she transitions into her new home.
If you live in the Southern California area and would like to learn more about Ellie or apply to foster/adopt, please visit www.k9kismet.org or email us at [email protected].
The good folks @friendsoflongbeachanimals have graciously offered to sponsor the first two weeks of Ellie's four-week-program. We are hoping our supporters will help us raise funds needed for the rest. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today to help Ellie live her best life! She deserves our full support.

Nearly 10 years young, Tiger Lily is looking for an adopter to spend her golden years with. Itâs hard to describe Tiger Lily without overusing the word love. Afterall, thatâs what sheâs all about. Tiger Lily loves everyone she meets. When petting this extremely affectionate girl, she leans in as though to say, âWhere have you been my whole life?â Her doting nature is carried over to her stuffed toys. Weâve seen her meticulously pick out her favorites from a toy box and, one-by-one, carry them over to her bed before diving in and enjoying them.
Donât let her age fool you: Tiger Lily lights up at the very mention of a walk. Forget all the fitness apps: If you need an exercise partner to motivate you to get your daily steps in, Tiger Lily is there for you. Her preference would be a route that never ends, but sheâs happy to follow your lead. Tiger Lily is well-mannered on the leash, sticking by your side and waiting for cues. Tiger Lily would be happy as an only-dog or living as part of a pack. At the end of a long day, this sweet soul will put herself to bed, where she sleeps peacefully through the night. Sheâs more than ready to find a home to call her own.
