K9 Kismet Dog Rescue Based in Long Beach, CA our primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving, permanent homes for homeless dogs. K9 Kismet is an all-breed rescue.

We believe in compassionate rescues where we know the dog is on borrowed time and likely to be overlooked or deemed less adoptable due to age, health, emotional state or breed. We ensure all animals we take into our rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.

Doing some last minute holiday shopping on Amazon? Consider adding an item from K9 Kismet's Wish List to your cart. We assure you, our pack members have been very good this year. Mostly. 😉

Clark, Frankie, Levi, & Missy would love a jacket, hoodie or a pair of pajamas. Cody & Tahoe asked for a new warm blanket. Chuck is a fan of the turkey tendon chews. Freddy needs to replenish his Dasuquin. Cass is hoping for a new XL Kong and Ellie & Tiger Lilly are begging for—you guessed it—treats. Collars, leashes, toys, and beds are always needed for new pack members.

Forever Fosters Missy and Cody have been needing some extra love in the form of vet visits and cuddles.

When we pulled Missy from the shelter earlier this month she had symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. X-rays done at her first vet appointment confirmed pneumonia. Her blood work looks really good for a 13-year-old gal, but her urinalysis showed she's also battling a urinary tract infection. We got her started on antibiotics for both infections and we are happy to report she is responding well to treatment.

Cody, our 5 lb blind 14-year-old senior, has also been battling a urinary track infection. He recently started a second course of antibiotics. Thankfully, treatment appears to be giving him some much needed relief.

With the help of donors like you, we’ve been able to give the gift of home to hundreds of dogs. For senior dogs like Missy and Cody, our Forever Foster Program takes it one step further, providing for a dog’s needs during his or her last chapter.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us cover the costs of our forever foster program.

story 💗

When we first met Tahoe at the shelter in the early Fall of 2021, he was a skittish, fearful senior. We knew he would need consistency in his routine and loads of patience if he was ever going to learn how to trust. In order to offer him that, we would need a foster who understood that Tahoe’s ability to truly put his guard down might take months, if not years. Because a patient person stepped forward, we were able to bring Tahoe into rescue.

When Tahoe was first brought home, he wanted to hide outside in the dirt, day and night. It was painful to watch and his foster mom had to fight the urge to coddle him, but she recognized that the best way to express her love to an insecure dog is to give him space and to be steadfast in her patience. On his own timeline, Tahoe ventured inside and onto his dog bed. As the weeks turned into months, he blossomed. Tahoe knew he was home. So did we. We made Tahoe a K9 Kismet Forever Foster so he could spend his golden years with his person.

Earlier this year Tahoe’s forever foster’s mother took ill. After several short cross-country trips, she made the decision to head to the east coast for an extended stay and she wanted to take Tahoe with her. With help of his foster mom and a long-time suporter, we were able to make that happen.

Last week Tahoe and his mom boarded a plane to start a new adventure together. A HUGE heartfelt thank you to the good folks for taking excellent care of our very precious cargo. Tahoe, made new friends, ate yummy snacks and enjoyed some spa time on the flight. A true red-list to A-list story!

With the help of donors like you, we’ve been able to offer hundreds of dogs a path out of the shelter. For dogs with special needs like Tahoe, our Forever Foster Program takes it one step further, providing for a dog’s needs during his or her last chapter.

Please join us in welcoming our newest pack member, Missy (LBACS ).

On 11/24/2024 this sweet senior was picked up as a stray in Long Beach, CA. When the team ran her microchip, they learned that she briefly stayed with them as a pup 12 years ago. Missy’s “owners” redeemed her back in 2012, but when the shelter reached out to them this time around they denied even knowing her. Leaving Missy, a 13-year-old with mobilty issues without a home for the holidays. 🤬

The shelter is a tough environment for any dog, but a cold, hard kennel floor is especially difficult for a 13 -year-old with medical needs (stiff gait, hindlimb weakness/ataxia, cutaneous masses and mild incontinence). If you follow us you know that senior dogs have always had a special place in our hearts. While Missy wasn’t a dog we had planned to feature in our Give the Gift of Home 12 Day focus, when the shelter put out a rescue plea for this lovely, vintage lady, we knew we wanted to help. First we’d needed to find her a long-term foster. As it would turn out, Missy was already working on that part. 😉

Thanks to a big-hearted shelter volunteer (and her family), Missy will have the opportunity to live out her days on a comfy bed in a warm home surrounded by people who love her.

Missy will see our vet next week for a full evaluation. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to help us keep Missy comfortable, we would be very grateful.

This Giving Tuesday, we hope you will help us celebrate by making a donation to your favorite nonprofit (hint-hint ... you’re looking at their post 😉).

At K9 Kismet Dog Rescue, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving, permanent homes for dogs in shelters who are at-risk of euthanasia and dogs whose owners can no longer care for them. We step in to help dogs who are enduring inhumane living conditions or are likely to be overlooked at the shelter due to their age, health, emotional state, or breed. Our dedicated team of volunteers work hard to ensure that all the dogs we take into rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.

As a 100% volunteer-run organization, every dollar we receive will go directly to the dogs we serve now and in the future.

Please join us in welcoming our newest pack member, Frankie.

In February of 2024, Frankie, his littermates, and both of his parents were surrendered to City of Long Beach Animal Care Services. Shortly after entering the shelter system, Giselle’s Legacy pulled Frankie and his family into rescue. When the pups were old enough to be separated from their mom, Frankie was sent to foster with a family in Colorado. Sadly, a short time later, Giselle’s Legacy stopped responding to fosters, leaving Frankie and many other dogs, without support.

[This post is about Frankie, specifically, so we’re going to keep the focus on him; however, we know you may have questions about Giselle’s Legacy and the dogs in their care. For that reason, we’re going to pin additional information about that in the comments.]

Frankie was born with hypospadias, a rare developmental defect that occurs when the urogenital folds don't fuse properly during fetal development. In more severe cases like Frankie's, the condition can also cause an underdeveloped p***s. Thanks to good Samaritans who stepped in to help and the generous supporter they secured, Frankie was able to receive treatment at Colorado State University (CSU). The surgical team removed Frankie's non-functioning genitalia, neutered him, and widened his narrow re**um. Fortunately, the initial surgery was successful, but Frankie may need additional treatment in the future to help address his mild urinary incontinence and lower his risk of urinary tract infections.

Frankie is a happy, friendly, adorable ten-month-old pittie pup. He gets along well with people of all ages and dogs of all sizes. He weighs 65 lbs, is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Frankie is currently in medical boarding in Colorado, receiving treatment for a UTI. We’re currently seeking a foster or adopter in the Boulder, Colorado area, or southern California. Please reach out to us for more information.

Donations to help with Frankie’s veterinary care would be greatly appreciated. ❤️‍🩹

📢 Mocha has been adopted!

🛣️ Her rescue journey took a longer route than many. In May 2023, Mocha, her littermates, their mom, and two adult male dogs were surrendered to Long Beach Animal Care Services. When tests confirmed the family had parvo, the shelter sent them offsite for life-saving treatment. Once cleared, the surviving dogs went to rescue partners and foster care through the shelter. When our good friends at Zoom Room Dog Training heard City of Long Beach Animal Care Services desperately needed fosters to help these pups, they stepped up. Mocha spent the next several months healing and gaining strength in their care. Then in August 2023, Mocha was adopted from the shelter at an offsite event. Sadly, that adoption was short-lived and Mocha found herself back in the shelter’s care in March 2024.

Upon her return, Mocha was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, conjunctivitis, entropion, and allergic dermatitis. In addition to that, we would later learn that the problematic growth protruding from her v***a was actually a bony structure due to her hermaphroditism. Mocha would go on to need two corrective surgeries. We were ready to take that road with her thanks to the long-term commitment from her fosters, Friends of Long Beach Animals for helping to fund some of her medical costs, and and for agreeing to take on the unique challenges of her case.

🫶 Mocha would fully heal and blossom into the happy-go-lucky girl we now know her to be. She stole the hearts of a big, amazing family who have vowed to love her forever and we couldn’t be happier about this match.

A special shout-out goes to Just Food For Dogs for supplying Mocha’s nutritious food free of charge through ❕Their continued support of our pack members means we can provide healthy meals while reserving funds for supplies and medical rehabilitation. Rescue truly is a team effort. 💕

👏 Help us congratulate Mocha and her new pack by liking, sharing, or commenting on this post! We can’t continue to do the hard work without supporters like you getting the word out.

Sometimes you just gotta curl up with some sun rays and go on a staycation.

Clark has been looking for a home since he was brought to the city shelter on December 1, 2021. He’s been with the rescue since May 26, 2022. Want to see us rescue more dogs? Help us find homes for the ones we have.

Please share this sleepy now-9.5-year-old Clark with your network. Three foster homes later (not counting the many relief foster homes he’s been shuffled into over the past 2.5 years), he’d like his next home to be HIS home. Help us get Clark settled so he can officially unpack his suitcase. 🧳

Visit the website for Clark’s bio and to submit an app to meet him. Seniors need love too.

We want every dog we take into rescue to have the opportunity to live their best life. Whether they need help to fine tune their skills and build confidence (Ellie) or a temporary safe place to crash while we look for a long-term foster or adopter (Levi), we are committed to providing the support our pack members need to thrive.

Levi and Ellie are in the best of hands with trainer but board & train can be costly (especially when two dogs are there at the same time). Thankfully, one of our supporters has generously offered a dollar-for-dollar donation match challenge to help us raise needed funds.

Over the next five days, every dollar donated (up to $1k) will be doubled! Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us fulfill the promises we made to Levi & Ellie.

🐾🏡Courtesy Post for BB

BB was found as a stray in the Long Beach area by a good Samaritan. The finder-turned-foster took the appropriate steps to find the owner, starting with registering him as “found” with the local shelter while she did a finder hold. She worked with City of Long Beach Animal Care Services to keep BB out of the overcrowded shelter, get him fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He’s now more-than-ready to get into a home where he can put down some roots.

Please read what BB’s independent foster has to say about him:

BB is a gentle and friendly dog. He enjoys lounging and, despite being a young 1.5 years old, he is generally laid back and mellow. He doesn’t even bark when he hears the doorbell or noises outside the home. BB is good in the car and looks forward to our morning and evening walks where he is very good on the leash. When I take him out, he’s fine with other people and dogs. It appears that he wants to play with dogs that bark at him. He needs to continue to be socialized with other dogs, but he is well on his way to being a well-balanced pet.

BB currently lives harmoniously with two cats 🐱🐱💘🐶 and has spent time around children. He has a playful side and doesn’t always seem to be aware of his 85-pound frame. We’re working on the “sit” and “stay” commands before he gets to receive pets. Since he is treat and praise-motivated, this has made training relatively easy.

BB is house-trained and crate-trained. When he’s in the crate, he enjoys watching DogTV on Youtube. It’s very soothing to him. Ultimately, he’s a truly affectionate and cuddly dog who loves to give kisses, receive belly rubs, and wants to be a family member.

Interested in meeting BB? Visit his adoption profile and apply online:

Please note: BB is not a K9 Kismet pack member. All applications should be initiated from the link above.

On this DĂa de los Mu***os, we remember and celebrate the lives of the K9 Kismet pack members that have departed this year.

Gone, but not forgotten:

🌹 Dottie, a puppy surrendered by her owners after it was discovered she had a seizure disorder. After her condition severely worsened and it was determined that it was brought on by an inoperable brain condition, we said goodbye to her with a Bucket List and surrounded by love.

🌹 Dora, the senior lady whose fosters doted on her as she battled multiplying ailments since leaving the shelter. When her time finally came, she departed surrounded by love and good memories.

🌹 Cowboy, the young dog whose battle with cancer took him too soon, but not before he got the chance to know what it was like to be a family member and loved.

🌹 Roger (AKA: Gramps), a senior boy who was brought into the pack with his sidekick Freddy after Forever Fosters opened their doors to him. Before it was his time to leave us, he got to make the abandonment from his previous owners a distant memory, surrounded by daily hugs and kisses.

🌹 Asher, our Forever Foster who ended up being diagnosed with three types of cancer and made a habit of defying the odds. We believe he fought because he had a reason to, thanks to the love and devotion of his Forever Foster family.

🌹 Miss Bonnie Parker, the super senior who didn’t ask for much: Just a snuggle and some snacks. Before she told us it was her time, she, too, got to feel the joys of being a prized family member.
