K9 Kismet Dog Rescue Based in Long Beach, CA our primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving, permanent homes for homeless dogs. K9 Kismet is an all-breed rescue.

We believe in compassionate rescues where we know the dog is on borrowed time and likely to be overlooked or deemed less adoptable due to age, health, emotional state or breed. We ensure all animals we take into our rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.

We want every dog we take into rescue to have the opportunity to live their best life. Whether they need help to fine tune their skills and build confidence (Ellie) or a temporary safe place to crash while we look for a long-term foster or adopter (Levi), we are committed to providing the support our pack members need to thrive.

Levi and Ellie are in the best of hands with trainer but board & train can be costly (especially when two dogs are there at the same time). Thankfully, one of our supporters has generously offered a dollar-for-dollar donation match challenge to help us raise needed funds.

Over the next five days, every dollar donated (up to $1k) will be doubled! Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us fulfill the promises we made to Levi & Ellie.

Donations can be made via-

🐾🏡Courtesy Post for BB

BB was found as a stray in the Long Beach area by a good Samaritan. The finder-turned-foster took the appropriate steps to find the owner, starting with registering him as “found” with the local shelter while she did a finder hold. She worked with City of Long Beach Animal Care Services to keep BB out of the overcrowded shelter, get him fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He’s now more-than-ready to get into a home where he can put down some roots.

Please read what BB’s independent foster has to say about him:

BB is a gentle and friendly dog. He enjoys lounging and, despite being a young 1.5 years old, he is generally laid back and mellow. He doesn’t even bark when he hears the doorbell or noises outside the home. BB is good in the car and looks forward to our morning and evening walks where he is very good on the leash. When I take him out, he’s fine with other people and dogs. It appears that he wants to play with dogs that bark at him. He needs to continue to be socialized with other dogs, but he is well on his way to being a well-balanced pet.

BB currently lives harmoniously with two cats 🐱🐱💘🐶 and has spent time around children. He has a playful side and doesn’t always seem to be aware of his 85-pound frame. We’re working on the “sit” and “stay” commands before he gets to receive pets. Since he is treat and praise-motivated, this has made training relatively easy.

BB is house-trained and crate-trained. When he’s in the crate, he enjoys watching DogTV on Youtube. It’s very soothing to him. Ultimately, he’s a truly affectionate and cuddly dog who loves to give kisses, receive belly rubs, and wants to be a family member.

On this Día de los Mu***os, we remember and celebrate the lives of the K9 Kismet pack members that have departed this year.

Gone, but not forgotten:

🌹 Dottie, a puppy surrendered by her owners after it was discovered she had a seizure disorder. After her condition severely worsened and it was determined that it was brought on by an inoperable brain condition, we said goodbye to her with a Bucket List and surrounded by love.

🌹 Dora, the senior lady whose fosters doted on her as she battled multiplying ailments since leaving the shelter. When her time finally came, she departed surrounded by love and good memories.

🌹 Cowboy, the young dog whose battle with cancer took him too soon, but not before he got the chance to know what it was like to be a family member and loved.

🌹 Roger (AKA: Gramps), a senior boy who was brought into the pack with his sidekick Freddy after Forever Fosters opened their doors to him. Before it was his time to leave us, he got to make the abandonment from his previous owners a distant memory, surrounded by daily hugs and kisses.

🌹 Asher, our Forever Foster who ended up being diagnosed with three types of cancer and made a habit of defying the odds. We believe he fought because he had a reason to, thanks to the love and devotion of his Forever Foster family.

🌹 Miss Bonnie Parker, the super senior who didn’t ask for much: Just a snuggle and some snacks. Before she told us it was her time, she, too, got to feel the joys of being a prized family member.

Chuck is done with all the waiting: He waited for 15 months at the shelter in isolation because our court system is beyond slow and unfair to the living creatures branded as “evidence,” and his wait in the rescue has now stretched on for 10 whole months with seemingly no end in sight. 🤯

He’d like to know where all the adopters are.

Help us restore Chuck’s faith that he’ll ever have a home where he can put down roots. Two foster homes later, we’d like his next crash pad to be his forever home.

When dogs like him are rescued from Death Row at the shelter, the journey has only just begun. Help us fulfill our promise to Chuck and, in turn, free up a foster home for future Chucks.

Not the right time for you to adopt? Maybe someone you know is looking for a handsome fella like him. ✨Please share this post.✨ Rescue is truly a team effort. Let’s tell Chuck—once and for all—his wait is over.

Update: Temp Fosters Locked Down! 🥰

We need your help❕

Our longest-stay adoptable dog Clark would VERY much like to book a stay with you this November. His long-term foster needs to leave town and we’re in need of available temp fosters to keep him out of boarding.

📢Spread the word: Fostering is free! We cover all expenses and provide all the supplies you’ll need. Whether you can only foster for a few days or a few weeks, we want to hear from you. 🙏🏼

https://www.kismet.org/foster

🐾Meet Clark. If you’re looking for a dog who likes a good stroll around the neighborhood, but likes to power nap even more, this sweet eight-year-old is your guy. Imagine a dog who will completely submerge himself under the covers. If you can’t find him buried in a nest of his own making, Clark’s second favorite napping place is in a patch of sun. Be warned: If you have a favorite spot on the couch, make sure to get there before him, otherwise, you’ll be faced with a Clark who is sitting on the ground and staring up at you. That’s him politely but forcefully insinuating you must move if you love him. If you think you won’t give in, you just might after he turns away in a huff and lets out a grunt or two in protest. Oh, the drama. He’s lucky he’s so cute.

Give Clark a snuffle mat or a toy with a treat in it and he will light up. To say he’s treat-motivated is an understatement. It’s helped when it comes to his obedience training: Clark will impress you with his “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “come,” and “paw.” If you have a short attention span when playing fetch–good news!–so does he. He’s got about five “fetches” in him and then it’s “High-five, Human,” as he checks his watch and insists he’s “really gotta get back to chilling out.” Tolerant and gentle, he’s also good in the car, so if you’re looking for a Road Dog, Clark is right there with you.

Clark hasn’t been tested with cats, but has lived harmoniously with bunnies across two different foster homes. He’s currently an only-dog, but he’s lived with other dogs who are roughly his size in the past.

Our resident happy-go-lucky gal, Mocha, is looking for her forever home. Mocha is a smart and independent 1.5 year old pittie. She is potty trained and crate trained. She is treat-motivated and loves to learn new things. Outside of food, Mocha is also obsessed with rallying her foster brother to play with her. Older and wiser, he has been her mentor dog, generously allowing this curious kid to follow him around like a pesky little sister. If you add water to the outdoor activities, like a hose or kiddie pool, you will see Mocha absolutely light up with happiness. You can’t play as hard as Mocha does and not balance it out with a heavy dose of Vitamin Zzz. At the end of the day, this proud power sleeper will announce it’s her bedtime by putting herself to sleep in her crate.

The top 5 reasons you should adopt Mocha:

1. She is smart and playful.

2. She loves people!

3. She is great with other dogs.

4. She is house and crate trained!

5. She will keep you smiling!

Bonus: Mocha comes with FREE training FOR LIFE with our friends at Zoom Room Long Beach!

If you live in Southern California and think Mocha would be a good fit for your household, fill out an application today! She’s eager to meet you.

What’re you doin’ this Saturday?! … Naur, don’t do THAT. Cancel and come meet adoptable K9 Kismet pack members Mocha, Ellie, Chuck, and Levi instead! Read their bios on our website and then plan your visit accordingly. Nothing would make them happier than to find their once-and-for-all humans.

https://www.k9kismet.org/adoptable-dogs/

🏡 If you’re looking to foster, Levi really wants to meet you. He says boarding is great and all—and he loves all the friends he’s making—but we promised him that sweet home life and he’s starting to think we don’t take our promises seriously.

Please help us get Levi and his friends home sooner than later by spreading the word. We hope to see you there!

Chuck: What does a good boy need to do to find a forever family?

Us: Excellent question, buddy. 🤔

This happy three-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix loves people and has done well with other dogs (cats are an unknown). He is crate-trained, house-trained, and easy on the leash. He is highly treat motivated, knows his basic commands, and is a quick learner. He enjoys hanging out with his people, playing with toys, hiking, and learning to swim. If you're looking for an active, fun, affectionate dog (he's also all about the cuddles), Chuck is the one for you.

🚨 URGENT COURTESY POST 🚨 Handsome Harlan is still looking for a forever home. This 5-6 month old male labrador/hound puppy was pulled out of a bad situation by a good Samaritan with the hopes of finding him a better life. The Good Samaritan can't keep him much longer, so Harlan needs to find a new home ASAP.

Here is what Harlan's temporary guardian has to say about him... "He is sweet, gentle, and a very quick learner. He is good around small children and animals. He currently lives with an 8 year old child, a 7lb Yorker, and an elderly cat. He does great in many new and different situations as I have had to have him babysat often due to my heavy work schedule. He is housetrained. Enjoys walks, playing fetch, playing with toys, going to the beach, being around other people and animals. He does fantastic when he's playing on his own in our yard and can keep himself entertained."

Harlan is fully vaccinated and microchipped. He is not neutered yet, but his temporary guardian is willing to take care of that before he is rehomed.

If you are interested in adopting Harlan, please message us here or email us at [email protected] so we can put you in touch with his guardian.

Harlan is a big baby who deserves a loving family. Please help us help Harlan find his forever home.

🐾🚨Urgently Seeking Foster

Levi will soon be without a foster home. We need your help. Please consider fostering Levi or networking him among your friends, family members, acquaintances, and your acquaintances’ acquaintances. We want to meet the dog lovers in your life!

Little-known fact: Fostering costs you nothing! We cover all expenses. We just ask that you to provide a loving, temporary home for the dog you agree to be paired with while we work on getting him or her back on track to a forever home. Whether you’re a seasoned foster who can handle some of our toughest cases, or a first-timer looking to ease into the process, we want to hear from you. You will never be left hanging on issues big or small, and even provided with training support as needed.

More about Levi: He is a good boy who loves people and all that goes into being part of the family. He’s affectionate, cuddly, and–quite honestly–hasn’t gotten the message that he’s not a lapdog. He’s going to find a way to snuggle close and lay his giant dome on your lap. He’s also a pro-sleeper through the night. You may have to rustle him for breakfast, versus the other way around. Levi enjoys getting out-and-about to smell all the smells and meet all the people. He had to rebuild his stamina after being found as an emaciated stray with an abdominal blockage, but he now has all kinds of pep in his step for walks and hikes. If you like to mix up your exercise routine, Levi is great in the car, always eager to jump in the back seat and see the sights. He also lights up around a hose and a ball. He is house-trained, curious, smart, tolerant, and motivated by treats and praise. As a dog who is dog selective, Levi’s ideal home will involve slow integration with a well-balanced pack, or an environment as a solo dog. He has experience in both settings.

In the foster application, you’ll have the opportunity to introduce yourself and your expectations to us:

We did it! With your help, K9 Kismet Dog Rescue raised $10,278 during Long Beach Gives!

📣 Special shout-outs incoming... ‼️

The first one goes to our family. Thank you for hosting us on September 19th! We had a blast! As a result of your INCREDIBLY generous offer to do a buy one/give one training promotion during the K9 Kismet Pack received ✨255 training classes!✨ Our dogs are over the moon, and our fosters can’t wait to get to work! Your ongoing support means the world to us, Zoom Room Family! We love you bunches! 💗

Thank you to and the team for putting together a very special peer fundraising campaign to benefit K9 Kismet during Long Beach Gives. The $3,130 you raised will go a long way to help pups in need. We are so very grateful for your support and friendship. 🫶🏼

We also want to send our love and thanks to our friends who provided items for our raffle. Thank you to .holistic.institute and the team at Ziggy records! You all rock! 😘

Much love to our friend who stopped by to check in on his buddy Chuck and stayed to make sure every single rescue dog in need of a home had the chance to have their story told. 🎥 💖

To our family of volunteers and fosters, thank you for stepping up for our pack time and time again. You are the best of the best, and we are so appreciative of you every single day! 🤗

Last but certainly not least, a deeply heartfelt thank you to all of the community members who donated to our rescue and shared our posts on social media to help highlight the work we do. Thank you on behalf of the dogs in our care now, and those we will help the future. We love you, ❣️

We are able to save lives because someone reading a post like this said, "I'll foster," "I'll volunter,” “I'll donate,” or "I'll share.” We hope you all will continue to say YES to helping us make a difference in the lives of dogs who are down on their luck. They need us—all of us—now more than ever.

📣 Copper has been adopted!

He has faced a longer road than most on his rescue journey, but we’re thrilled he’s finally with his forever family. With an intake date of 10/26/22 at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center and the fate of having to spend the next fourteen months on evidence hold, Copper’s world was very small. For a playful and friendly sweetheart like himself, the fact that he was allowed to exit from his kennel only rarely must’ve been torturous. Even after the hold was lifted, Copper (FKA: Clipper, ) didn’t attract an adopter, and—due to overcrowding at the shelter—he was threatened with euthanasia. Thanks to a foster stepping forward, on 1/17/24, we were able to tell Copper that we were breaking him out of the shelter once and for all. In April, he was adopted but was returned less than a month later due to circumstances that had nothing to do with him. With his foster home unable to keep him much longer, we searched for a new placement but came up short. To say that foster homes are few and far between these days for California shelters and rescues is an understatement. We turned to our friend and trusted trainer to take him in. While there, we received detailed notes about Copper, which we used to keep up the search for his next foster home.

Luckily, a foster home did finally open up when another K9 Kismet pack member was adopted. Those seasoned fosters generously offered the vacancy in their home to Copper, and—of course—we were excited for him. It just so happens that Copper was such a perfect fit for them and their pack that his fosters were compelled to officially adopt him! 🏡

Reach out if you’re interested in meeting (a shelter survivor with the same backstory) or any of our other K9 Kismet pack members who are still looking for their own home turf.
