The non- ruminate and the "ruminate marauders " enjoy grazing together.
Breakfast for the back pasture crowd.
And Tajar wasn't finished with his shenanigans
Bringing them in for breakfast. ...one naughty horse!
Windy & pretty chilly this morning. Turned out not so bad-- I fixed brunch for Cameron & Trey -- lots of bacon and pancakes. The big event of the day -- all 8 piglets are officially weaned - it was a family affair catching them. Here's a couple of videos, but couldn't capture all the noise and adrenaline present. Let me back track a little to mention that yesterday's escape by Agnes and her brood -- down Old Yorkville Rd and into the WMA, was too stressful for me! I had visions of coyotes killing the piglets and Agnes never coming back.
They were tracked down ( after a couple of hours) -- thanks again, Jamie, Brian and Matt!
Here's how the piglets enjoyed the cool temps. And although I wasn't planning this- it's their last day of nursing. Taking this video from one of the bedrooms in my house. Notice that Agnes is focused on rooting. I had no idea that right there is where my septic line leaves the house, nor did I know that it was so near the surface.
But it's nasty cold out, I've now developed a sinus infection -- so of course I'm going to find myself outside.
I first noticed the white of the PVC pipe " surface" shortly after taking this video and by the time I was bundled up and outside, Agnes had totally unearthed it & bit right through. Yuck! My next step was to move the fence over so she couldn't do more damage. I fed them at the other end of the enclosed area, to key them outbid my way, and went to work. Agnes eats fast-- and I had fencing down, she proceeded to walk right over it. ( yes I should have acquired some help, but I thought I could do it on my own) At least I managed to keep the piglets in! I now am having shooting pains as the wind whips across my face, and I have to call Jamie, because I know I can't manage this problem on my own. Within the hour he arrives with son Brian. I am beyond thankful to see them! The decision is made to go ahead and just reunite Agnes with her friend Seamus. Piglets -- you've had your mother longer than most, and it was time for you to be weaned anyway. Seamus is delighted with having his sow back. Jamie has gone to Home Depot to purchase things needed to repair the crushed by a sow PVC pipe. And hopefully this will be the end of this day's "farm episode".
The happy healthy piglets at six weeks - not weaned yet, but certainly eating and rooting enough.
If it's not one thing, it's another. Seems appropriate for daily events here. Yesterday, Dunny was acting so foolish due to his fear of a Canadian goose that was honking in a paddock ( none of the other horses were bothered) I had to catch him and put him back in his stall because I'm sure he was going to injure himself as he slid through the mud. This morning Ada discovered that Savana and Ruby had taken down fences, so horses were rummaging through the barn & in the barnyard.
Before the rain started today, I tossed out some pumpkin seeds for Agnes and her piglets. I'd say they found them tasty
