A Bullmastiff's Sanctuary

Living with a Bullmastiff is fulfilling on so many levels; but as with every relationship, there can be challenges. Sometimes those challenges seem to morph into difficult obstacles that seem too much for the Human part of the relationship to bear. Unfortunately when this happens, the once cherished Bullmastiff Companion becomes a burden and then abandoned from the only

home and humans that he/she knows. On this page you will find the solutions that have worked well for me in the last 22 years of living with at least one or more Bullmastiffs. I am also a volunteer for Bullmastiff Rescue, hence you will also see some of our rescued fosters featured as well. IMPORTANT NOTE: None of the information on this page serves as a substitute for proper licensed and professional care! Always work with your veterinarian to find a healthy solution to medical challenges. And consult a professional trainer for behavior modifications. My way is by no means the only way or necessarily the "right way" for your unique situation. My hope with this page is to simply share my experiences in the hope of exposing you to alternative resolutions to any challenges you may encounter regarding Bullmastiff Ownership. Too many Bullmastiffs are abandoned over resolvable problems. Particularly the middle-aged to elderly Bullmastiffs. Let's work together to become better educated and more compassionate keepers of this breed.

Dear Landlords,

Let's break the barriers for large dog owners and provide them with equal opportunities to rent homes. By implementing reasonable restrictions such as:

- Proof of obedience training
- Proof of crate training and usage
- No bite history on file
- References that will vouch for the behavior of the dog as well as the level of care the owner gives the dog
- No dog breeding
- No outside only dogs

Responsible large breed dog owners will gladly provide this information which offers assurance that our rental properties are well-maintained during their occupancy. With so many families being displaced and losing out on home ownership, this is our chance to do better for our communities. Let's do our part in making a positive change and help to keep struggling families intact - giant breeds included.

We have had a few cases of mycotoxin poisoning recently. Its not a poisoning that folks are generally familiar with, so we thought we'd share the information to raise awareness.-

Ingestion of mouldy food from the bin or a compost pile puts dogs, cats, horses, livestock, and even wildlife at risk for toxicity due to tremorgenic mycotoxins. These toxins may be found in MOULDY bread, pasta, cheese, nuts, or other decaying matter like compost. Clinical signs include vomiting, agitation, incoordination, tremors, seizures, and elevated body temperature. A specific mycotoxin called aflatoxin can even cause liver failure. Be sure to keep mouldy food and compost out of your pets reach!

Ben has embarked on a holistic healing journey, tackling four active tumors through two surgeries in just three months. With a focus on harnessing the body's natural healing powers, we've chosen to forego chemotherapy in favor of acupuncture and specialized supplementation, complementing his fresh food diet. As he approaches his 8th birthday in November, we hope he will give us several more years filled with vitality and joy.

STELLAAAAAAA!!!!!!! STELLAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

Stella is available for adoption in Louisiana.

Everyone meet Stella!

I’m Stella and I’m just about 1 year old! Maybe 1-1/2. I don’t know because ended up at a rural shelter as a stray. I don’t know how I ended up there, cuz LOOK AT ME! I’m amazing!!! Foster mom says I have definitely had some training, but maybe I’m just that good and I learn real quick! (Fooled her😉). I am all up to date on all my vaccinations, heartworm prevention and flea and tick medication. I am fixed, whatever that means, but I wasn’t broken anyway! My heart doesn’t have any worms! Yuck! I am a great girl! I take treats very gently. I wait patiently to eat my breakfast until my foster mom says okay. I sleep in my crate all night long and I never potty in the house! I love the inside but I’m not crazy about outside unless my foster parents are with me. I have only barked once since I’ve been here. I don’t like to be outside at night and I am afraid of noises in the dark. I don’t like bad weather or loud noises either! But I come inside to my crate and sleep like a good girl! I don’t have to stay in my crate during the day, because I never chew on anything! Well. Maybe once when foster mom forgot the remote control on the sofa, but I it still works!! The shelter lady said I was fine with other dogs except one stinky boy dog that tried to boss me around. I didn’t like him, but I just got away from him. Foster mom has 3 dogs but only one is nice enough to come outside and meet me. He’s okay. He’s a little dorky. I live in what foster mom calls “the wo-man cave”. Dogs aren’t allowed in here. But I think she thinks I’m a hooman cause I stay here. I would really love a home where I could live inside with my family! I could be an only pup or I could meet your gentle pups but you would need to give me time to get to know them first. I don’t know how I feel about cats, but I think I would like them. My wo-man cave is in south Louisiana, but I would be worth the drive if you want to adopt me!! Foster mom always has her camera out, she must think I’m pretty special! And I am amazing at neighborhood watch! Check me out!!
