How we got started

It’s pretty simple really. We wanted to add a puppy to our home. We researched and researched. We wanted a dog that didn’t shed, was smart and easily trained and would happily provide hours and hours of family companionship whether it be going for a walk or just sitting on the couch watching a movie. We kept coming back to the Havanese breed. The Poodle was our second choice but we loved the flexibility that the hair styles the Havanese breed offered.

The day we went to look at the babys at a not to far away Kennel, we fell in love with two little girls and went home with both. One thing we wanted to do was experience puppys with them. So far, we have had one litter of puppies. We found a nearby intact tiny poodle and he was more than happy to participate. And their babies should look like tiny teddy bears!!!

I’m really excited to be breeding these tiny puppies. Both parents are both under 10 lbs so I doubt any of the babies will be much over 10 lbs if at all. They will be fun, smart, low shedding hypoallergenic puppies.

A little about the breed

The Fun-loving and Sociable Havapoo is a breed of Small to Medium dog is a Hybrid / Mix crossbreed, bred from a Havanese and a Poodle. The Havapoo, is characterized by its charming, delightful, cuddly appearance with its cute, appealing and lovable expression. This "designer dog" hybrid breed exhibits the combination of characteristics, and a temperament mix, associated with the Havanese and the Poodle. The goal of crossing the two breeds was to create 'Poovanese' puppies that might incorporate the long, silky hair, expressive eyes and trainability of the Havanese with the devotion, high intelligence and non-shedding coat of the Poodle.

The temperament of the Havapoo can be described as Affectionate, Obedient, Playful. The coat type of the Havapoo is described as varied coat type depending on hereditary traits in assorted colors. Due to its characteristics and qualities, the Havapoo demonstrated the desired traits of a Watch dog, Companion and Pet dog and is known by its nick name the "Poovanese". The origin of the Havapoo dog breed was in United States where it was developed in the mid to late 1900's.

Havapoo History and Origin: The country of origin of the Havapoo breed was in United States during the mid to late 1900's. The lineage of the hybrid Havapoo is a combination of two dog breeds. The Poodle, the "Caniche", began as a water dog, specifically as a duck retriever, in Germany during the 1500's. The Havanese, the "Dog from Havana", originated in Cuba as a performer and lapdog dating back to time immemorial. In the late 1990's dog breeders began to create the self-styled 'Designer Dogs" and began to develop a new breed based on the combined qualities of the Poodle and the Havanese dog.

The breeding programs resulted in the Havapoo, an adorable dog that exhibited the charm, out going nature and intelligence of the Poodle together with the advantages of its low shedding coat with the easy trainability, gorgeous, soft, silky coat and large appealing eyes of the Havanese. The charming hybrid Havapoo was a success with families and kids over 6 years old. The cross-breed Havapoo is currently recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC) and the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).
