Chalkney Boarding Kennels and Cattery is a family run business located on the edge of Chalkney Woods on a small working farm, in White Colne. The dogs get walked up the Woods everyday and get to socialise and be free roaming whilst on their walks (only with owners permission). The dogs and cats we board always enjoy their stay with us and our staff love having them.

UPDATE FOR THOSE CONTRADICTING THIS GENERIC ADVICE.

The advice on using COOL water is directly from the RSPCA. Ice cold water on an overheating dog can cause serious complications such as shock. The ideal temperature is cold tap water around 15 to 16 degrees. You may disagree. That's fine. Please feel free to leave this page.

The weather is getting HOT this week so please remember your fist!
Make a fist and hold the back of your hand on the path. If it's too hot to keep it there, it's too hot for your dogs feet.
Hold it against your dogs belly. If it feels the same temperature as your hand, they are fine. If their belly feels hot, you need to cool them down.
Never cover them in ice cold water when they're hot. Tepid water is best so it doesn't shock their system. Make sure they have plenty to drink and of course, no leaving in a car even with windows open.
Shorter walks in cooler times of the day.
Now with your fist, press the fleshy part at the base of your thumb. If this feels like your dogs flanks, they could be overweight.
Run a finger along the knuckles of your fist. If this is your dogs spine they could be underweight.
If they feel like the back of your fist that's just about right!
These are general safety guidelines. If in any doubt, speak to your vet.
Keep your furbabies safe in the heat 😎🐾💦
