Ruby, Lost in Somerville is finally home! Ruby while out on her harness became spooked and wiggled out of it. Problem was, it wasn’t at home, it was a block or so away. When this happens, we’re hopeful that there are kind animal loving people close by and luckily there were in Ruby’s case! A family allowed us to set up in their back yard which abuts the area she ran from. And sure enough Ruby showed up on camera and the trapping began! One heart wrenching night we watched ruby walk into the trap and then walk out! Argh!!!! But Ruby’s parents didn’t give up, we made some changes and Ruby was trapped a couple nights later. Ruby was missing for 15 days. It took 7 days for her to come out of hiding and make an appearance. Then disappeared for 3 nights, but luckily we got her back to the same yard. Couldn’t have captured her this quickly without these amazing neighbors who literally said “do whatever you need to to get your cat back.” That and the determination from her parents!! Welcome Home Ruby!! #lostcatsomerville #wanderingtailspetrecovery
Calliope, missing from W. Roxbury is home after 32 days missing! We tried everything on this girl and ultimately I needed to use a remote triggered drop trap to catch her. So there's no video of that exhilarating moment because it would have interfered with the remote, but this is her eating under our training drop trap. Not only did we have to bring out the drop trap, we also could not get her to return to her own yard. Luckily the family across the street were more than accommodating to us and Callie. With the snow and cold weather, she wasn't always consistent in coming to eat and she wanted no part of the box trap - especially if some other critter got there first. We were also running out of time, as Mom was deployed Sunday night. She and I had taken shifts monitoring the traps and we so wanted her home before she left. Callie was a hard one to catch, but I'm so happy that we got her! And mom will see her when she returns. A few take away lessons from this case...skittish cats who feel like they are cornered in a hiding spot will not return to that spot. So, never try to barricade a cat under a porch. It's most important to allow the cat to feel safe there, feed it and get assistance in proper trapping techniques. And second, be a good neighbor! Without this family allowing us to set up our trap and camera in a tiny corner of their yard we would not have caught her. And we don't want to think about what her life would be like out on the streets. Thank you Diana and family for your patience and kindness. Welcome Home Calliope!! #lostcatBoston #foundcatBoston #wanderingtailspetrecovery
Zebra, missing from Somerville is home after 15 days missing! Her dad did an amazing job following up on leads, but more importantly, continuing to feed at home. Despite a snowstorm, possible sightings further away, and living on busy Broadway, he listened to our advice to keep feeding. And after 14 nights, Zebra showed up to eat and was trapped the next night. This is a good lesson that weather, personality, and environment can all play a role in our cats’ recovery. Welcome Home, Zebra!!#lostcatsomerville #foundcat #wanderingtailspetrecovery
We're back!!!! You may have noticed we haven't posted in a while. We took some time for other projects close to our hearts 🐱, caring for our own family members 🐶 and successful reunions a little closer to home. Here is Oreo telling us how excited he is to be going home! He went missing while his family was away for two weeks....now safely back home with them.
We'll be sharing more about some new projects over the next few months!
