Congratulations to our local shelter, Capital Area Humane Society, on their placement at the top of this list ( #2 in the state of Michigan) for dog and cat adoptions!

Mid-Michigan and the greater Lansing area are fortunate to have a shelter that does more than talk the talk. CAHS produces results for the dogs and cats in their care. Thank you CAHS!

16,326 cats and dogs were euthanized at Michigan shelters in 2021.

This incredible little boy is looking for his forever home through Happy Feet Pet Rescue.

He is doing super with housebreaking in his foster home and currently lives with other cats, dogs and children. He has learned "shake" and is food motivated. And motivated by human attention too! He's very social and has an exceptional temperament. We know his "forever home" is out there looking for him.....here he is just waiting for you!!!

Can't adopt? SHARE THIS POST! Thank you in advance! Let's find his forever home!

Representative Roger Hauck - we hope you will take Humane Society of Midland County up on their offer to meet the Envigo beagles.

*YOU* have the power to make Michigan a more compassionate state by allowing research animals a second chance. Rep. Hauck, please call for a vote during the last few Regulatory Reform committee meetings in 2022. We see there are not many scheduled before the end of the year, make the most of them!

We'd like to take a moment to formally invite, Michigan State Representative, Roger Hauck to join us at our shelter on Tuesday, August 9th, to meet the Beagles, who's lives have been saved from a lifetime of animal testing. Roger, we'd like to encourage you to come out and meet these amazing dogs who have so much love to give, despite what they've been through. We want to show you how worthy they are of a second chance, along side all other animals used in testing in our state. We hope by meeting them it will encourage you to positively move Teddy's Law through your committee and make it a reality for research animals in need.

Teddy's Law, House Bill 4881, would require a research facility to offer the animal to a rescue or animal shelter located in Michigan for adoption before euthanizing after the animal is retired unless euthanizing the animal is required for health or safety reasons. The bill also offers civil immunity for both the research facilities and animal shelters from the transfer of animals if they acted in good faith concerning the health and physical condition of the animal.

Michiganders, our state has similar bills, H.B. 4881, 4882 introduced last year by State Rep. Tommy Brann and State Rep. Kevin Hertel. They've been languishing in Committee since a Feb. hearing.

***ACTION*** MI residents, call Regulatory Reform Chair Rep. Hauck (517) 373-1789 and ask him to schedule a vote on .

The bill was signed into law on Thursday and will require animal research and testing facilities in Massachusetts that use dogs and cats to offer healthy animals for adoption once their time in research has ended.

Thank you Julia Willson, President & CEO of Capital Area Humane Society, for being such a powerful voice for those without a voice!

Michigan residents can help by contacting their Michigan House Representatives and asking them to support HB 4881 & HB 4882.

If you live in Representative Roger Hauck's district (Midland/Isabella cty), please contact him asap and ask him politely to please call for a VOTE (they already had a hearing) immediately.

There is a population of dogs and cats in Michigan who are dying needlessly: those used in laboratory testing.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Today, CAHS participated in Humane Lobby Day, which is sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States across the country. Humane Lobby Day gives animal advocates an opportunity to talk to state legislators about passing laws that protect animals.

PLEASE help us move these important bills forward.

HB 4881 and 4882, Teddy's Law, sponsored by Rep. Hertel, would require research facilities to offer dogs or cats no longer used in research to a registered animal shelter located in Michigan for adoption, unless euthanizing the animal is required for health or safety reasons. The bill provides research facilities, as well as the shelters that accept the animals, immunity from civil liability if they act in good faith concerning the health and physical condition of the animal. House Bill 4882, sponsored by Rep. Brann, would require research facilities that use dogs and cats to submit an annual report to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development about those animals adopted during the preceding year and would establish civil penalties for failure to comply with adoption standards.

HB 4784 would increase the sheltering standards for dogs who live outdoors. It would, among other things, prohibit the use of unmodified plastic and metal barrels, and require that outdoor shelters have real floors (no wire).

Please call a couple of the committee members on the list below and ask them to vote YES on HB 4881 and 4882:
• Rep. Michele Hoitenga (Republican) District-102 (517) 373-1747
• Rep. Joe Bellino (Republican) District-17 517) 373-1530
