After the recent freeze, our black sapote trees have dropped their leaves but kept their fruit. In fact, the fruit seems fine. The trees also dropped their leaves in the 2018 freeze, but recovered fully.

Transition Sarasota now has an online guide to local food producers, markets, and small businesses. This is a great resource for all of those interested in supporting our community and enjoying the rich diversity of our local food system. Full disclosure: I am the Treasurer of Transition Sarasota (but I would share this info even if I weren't!).

We are excited to launch our Eat Local Guide, a great online resource for locally sourced food including farms, farmers markets, grow-your-own supplies, and restaurants serving local food.

Transition Sarasota is a wonderful local non-profit dedicated to local food and specializing in reducing food waste through efforts such as gleaning and fruit rescue (volunteer harvesting of otherwise wasted produce, which is sent to local food banks), and other support of local food growers and small businesses. (Full disclosure--- I am the treasurer of this almost entirely volunteer organization.) TSRQ's 10th Eat Local Week is coming up March 14-20. For covid safety, it will be entirely online. Please check out the events at https://www.transitionsrq.org/elw2021 . Registration is free, but please provide an optional donation if you can. Donor support is the only way that small non-profits like Transition Sarasota can stay alive and continue their valuable work.
