The annual Strauss Festival starts tonight at Elk Grove Park. It will continue until Sunday night. That also means there will be fireworks every night at the end of the show probably around 9:30 PM. if you have pets and live nearby, do whatever you have to do to keep them calm and safe. Please check your gates and fences.

We are so excited to welcome Dr. Jonna Swanson onboard as our new full time veterinarian at the Elk Grove Animal Shelter.

Dr. Swanson comes to us with 12 years of experience in shelter medicine. She has lived and worked all over the world including New Zealand, Uganda, Japan, Washington DC, and Minneapolis. Fun fact: she speaks a bit of Japanese and used to be fluent in Mongolian!

She’s jumping in at the craziest time of year with kittens and dogs continuing to fill our shelter and foster homes. Luckily, she’ll to have support from our amazing RVTs and Veterinary Assistants to help ease her transition over the next several weeks.

Guess what's back? We had so much fun with our Christmas in July adoption promotion last year, we're bringing it back!

It might be 110+ degrees outside but inside we're bringing the holiday spirit with $25 adoptions for all shelter pets all month long!

We're open today from 12 - 6pm if you'd like to check out our many wonderful adoptable cats, dogs, bunnies, guinea pigs, and even some aquatic turtles. Visit us at 9150 Union Park Way here in Elk Grove

The 4th of July is one of the busiest times for animal shelters as so many pets get lost.
One of the biggest things you can do is make sure your pet has a collar with ID. If someone finds it they can immediately contact you. A chip is also great but requires taking the dog to get it scanned. It is a great backup, but an ID tag is even better.
Check your gates and fences. Put a lock on your gate if that is an option.

We still have 44 dogs (and some cats and small animals too!) available for adoption, which is sadly just too many dogs for our small shelter. We are hoping to help at least 20 dogs get adopted this week during our Wheel of Deals promotion in order to help us reduce the crowding at our shelter.
