🐾 Brrr! How Cold is Too Cold for Your Pets? ❄️🐶🐱

As winter settles in, it’s important to know your pet’s limits when it comes to cold weather. Just like us, pets can feel the chill and are at risk of frostbite or hypothermia in freezing conditions.

✨ Quick Temperature Guide:
✔️ Above 45°F (7°C): Most pets are comfortable, but short-haired breeds and small pets might still get chilly.
✔️ 32°F (0°C) and Below: Time outdoors should be limited, especially for smaller or thin-coated pets.
✔️ 20°F (-6°C) and Below: This is dangerous territory for most pets. Keep them indoors and warm!

✨ Cold Weather Tips:

Know Your Pet’s Limits: Breeds like Huskies handle cold better than Chihuahuas or cats.
Layer Up: Consider sweaters or jackets for short-haired pets.
Check Paws: Ice, snow, and salt can irritate or injure paw pads. Clean them after outdoor time!
💡 Reminder: If it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for them. Watch for signs of cold stress like shivering, whining, or slowing down, and bring them indoors immediately.

🐾 Tuesday Update: We’re Here for You and Your Pets During the Winter Weather ❄️🐕🐱

With icy roads and freezing temperatures in the forecast, we want to remind everyone to stay safe out there—both for yourself and your furry family members!

✨ Pet Safety Tips for Icy Weather:
✔️ Limit Outdoor Time: Take pets out only for bathroom breaks and keep them warm with coats or sweaters if needed.
✔️ Protect Paws: Ice, snow, and salt can irritate your pet’s paw pads. Clean and dry their paws after every outing.
✔️ Stay Visible: If you’re walking your pet, use reflective gear or lights to stay safe in low visibility conditions.

🚗 We’re Open Our Normal Hours:
Our hospital will be open Tuesday night from 6 PM to 8 AM, ready to assist you and your pets during the winter weather. Please drive carefully if you need to visit us!

🐾 Cold Weather Alert: Check Your Car for Hidden Cats! 🚗🐱❄️

As temperatures drop, outdoor cats and strays may seek warmth wherever they can find it—including under car hoods or inside engine compartments. Before starting your car, take a moment to ensure no furry friends are hiding!

✨ How to Check for Cats:
✔️ Tap the Hood: Knock or tap the hood of your car to alert any hiding animals.
✔️ Look and Listen: Check around the tires and under the car for movement or sounds.
✔️ Be Patient: Wait a moment after tapping to give cats time to escape.

💡 Pro Tip: If you see stray cats in your area, consider providing a warm shelter, like a box lined with blankets, to give them a safe alternative.

🐾 Monday Reminder: Pet Safety During Freezing Weather ❄️🐕🐱

Freezing temperatures can be dangerous for our furry friends! Here are some essential tips to keep your pets safe and warm during a cold snap:

✨ Cold Weather Safety Tips:
✔️ Bring Them Inside: If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them! Limit outdoor time to bathroom breaks only.
✔️ Check Paws: After walks, check for ice, salt, or cracks on their paw pads. Wipe them clean to prevent irritation.
✔️ Provide Warm Shelter: For outdoor pets, ensure they have a well-insulated shelter with plenty of bedding.
✔️ Bundle Up: Short-haired pets may need a sweater or jacket when going outside.
✔️ Stay Hydrated: Cold air can dehydrate pets just as quickly as heat—make sure they have fresh water.

💡 Pro Tip: Watch for signs of hypothermia or frostbite, like shivering, lethargy, or discolored skin, and call your vet immediately if you’re concerned.

🐾 Winter Pet Care: Should You Bathe Your Pet During Cold Weather? 🛁❄️

Bathing your pet during winter can be tricky! Here are a few tips to help you decide:

✨ When a Bath is Necessary:
✔️ If your pet gets into something messy or smelly.
✔️ If their coat or skin is oily or dirty.
✔️ If your vet recommends baths for specific skin conditions.

💡 Pro Tip: Some pets don’t need frequent baths. Regular brushing often keeps their coat clean and healthy, especially during winter!

🐾 Fun Fact Friday: Cats Are Purr-fectly Fascinating! 🐱

Did you know that cats spend about 70% of their lives sleeping? That’s roughly 13–16 hours a day! 💤 While they’re awake, cats are masters of agility and can jump up to six times their body length in a single leap.

✔️ Why So Much Sleep?
Cats are natural hunters, and their wild ancestors needed to conserve energy for stalking and pouncing. Even our cozy, indoor kitties still have those instincts!

💡 Pro Tip: If your cat’s sleep patterns seem off or they’re excessively lethargic, it’s always a good idea to check in with your vet.

🐾 Fun Fact Friday: What Does Your Dog’s Runny Nose Mean? 🐶

A dog’s nose can say a lot about their health, and a little runny nose might not always be something to worry about. Here’s what to know:

✔️ Normal:
A clear, mild discharge is often normal and can simply mean your dog’s nose is working to keep itself clean and moist.

❌ When to Check with a Vet:
If your dog’s nose is runny with:
🔸 Thick, yellow, or green mucus
🔸 Sneezing, coughing, or difficulty breathing
🔸 Signs of discomfort or lethargy

It’s time to give us a call! These could signal an infection, allergies, or another health concern.

🐾 Texas Cold Weather Tip: Keep Your Pets Warm! ❄️

Even in Texas, temperatures can drop quickly during the winter months, and our furry friends need extra care to stay warm and safe. 🐶🐱

✔️ Limit Outdoor Time: Cold weather can be dangerous for pets, especially smaller breeds or those with short coats. Keep outdoor playtime brief!
✔️ Check Paws After Walks: Ice, salt, and debris can irritate your pet’s paws. Wipe them clean and check for cracks. 🐾
✔️ Provide a Cozy Spot: Make sure your pet has a warm, draft-free area to relax indoors.

🚨 Remember: Never leave your pet outside for extended periods in cold weather. If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them!

As the weather gets colder, you might notice your furry friends snoozing more than usual. ❄️🐶🐱 Just like us, pets can feel the effects of shorter days and chilly temperatures, leading to:
✔️ Extra naps
✔️ Slower activity levels
✔️ A craving for warm, cozy spots

💤 Is It Normal?
For most pets, this is perfectly normal. But if your pet seems excessively tired, lethargic, or disinterested in food or play, it’s always a good idea to check with your vet to rule out underlying issues.
