Hey Everyone, it's been quite a year of ups and downs for Molly, but one big positive, is that she will be celebrating her 13th birthday on March 31st!! 🥳😍

I've been hesitating to send this update because I kept hoping we would be able to get past it, but it looks like Molly now has her final bladder infection. We've been fighting it for about 8 months now and it continues to increase its resistance, no matter what we try. Her last culture showed that there aren't any other antibiotics to try. It appears that the bacteria has colonized her bladder walls and has become resistant to everything.
All hope is not lost, and we're doing everything we can to keep the infection from traveling to her kidneys, which really will be the end.

In the meantime, we've got lots of new treatments and supplements on board to keep her as healthy and happy as possible, for as long as possible. One really neat device is an Ozone machine. Ozone therapy decreases inflammation, pain, and swelling, and also activates the body's immune system. It has germicidal, bactericidal, and fungicidal properties, and can enhance the immune system to help with chronic conditions such as neurologic disease, auto-immune disease, cancer, and allergies.

We give it to Molly in two ways; we bag her legs and let it flow over any open lesions, and we use a re**al catheter to get it inside her body to help fight, or at least contain, the infection.
So far it's working beautifully, she has no open areas on her legs, and the bladder infection has not spread.

We really appreciate everyone's support! Without your donations and positive vibes, we never could have gotten her this far. If you would like to help a little more, you can donate to GRREAT and name her as the recipient (https://grreat.org/donatesupport/), and she also has an Amazon page for her regular necessities (https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2BWA7HQMH26ZQ...)

Thank you for everything, our journey with her has been amazing and we couldn't have done it without you! Fingers crossed that she has more quality time to share. 🥰

Hi Team Molly! We've been on quite a roller coaster for the last few months. Her bladder infection continued to recur - 4 times in a row after 4 years of being infection free! And she was getting sicker and sicker through each round of antibiotics.

Finally we were able to get an ultrasound from a specialist who found an enlarged liver, nodes on her adrenal glands, and damage to her left kidney.

At this point, the nodes on her adrenals were the most concerning and we completed a Cushings test last week - it came back Positive! The good news is that it is a definite cause of recurring infections. The bad news is that the nodes on the adrenals are 50/50 cancer or benign.

She started her Cushings meds yesterday and we think we're already seeing improvement! The trick is to get the dosage right so that we don't throw her into the opposite direction and cause Addisons.

She'll get a follow-up urinalysis in a couple of weeks and we hope to see it come back clear. A follow-up ultrasound will be done next month to see if the adrenal nodes have grown (cancer) or stayed the same (benign)

Thank you for all the positive thoughts you've been sending her way!

By the way, if you've ever been curious about any canine diseases, treatments, whatever, this is an EXCELLENT website that gives plain English information: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/

💛🧡❤️ Molly's urine culture came back after ten days showing three different strains of bacteria. As a group, they are resistent to most of the available antibiotics out there but there are two antibiotics that have the potential to handle all three strains. We chose one and Molly has been on it for about ten days now. She'll go in for a follow-up cysto to see how we're doing. The danger is that, if it only partially worked, it would leave room for the bacteria to mutate into something worse. The best case scenario is that it wiped all three strains out - please continue with those awesome pawsitive thoughts, we'll let you know her cysto reseults soon! ❤️🧡💛

❤️🧡💛 Molly could use your positive thoughts. 💛🧡❤️Through an amazing network of Vets, medications, therapies and care, she has managed to maintain a healthy bladder for nearly three whole years! We are so sad to let you know that her latest urinalysis showed a heavy bacterial load and white blood cells. They are doing a culture now to find out which, if any, antibiotic will help her.
For a partially paralyzed “down dog” like Molly, severe bladder infections are an ever-present and very serious danger. Each one could be more and more resistant, and the correct antibiotic be more and more toxic, until finally, there is no known antibiotic to safely treat it. Her last severe infection in 2018 was very nearly untreatable and the meds left her with life-long scarring.
We should have results in a few days. ❤️🧡💛

🥰 4 years ago a UK "magazine" found out about Molly and ran an article about her. Ok, ok, it was more like a tabloid, but this one tries to do one inspirational article per issue to lighten things up a bit, lol. The headline is still GRREAT! 😍

THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKIES!

❤️❤️❤️ Check out Molly's article in "LOVE IT!", a magazine published in the UK ❤️❤️❤️
