I went to Eastern Carolina Rabbit Breeders Association's Smithfield Veterans Day show, since that show is like home to me and around the corner. Hung out with great friends, met new ones, and took some cool awards home!

I showed Rex and Hollands.
Georgia/Sugar's Tennessee took Best of Breed on Friday in show A for Rex, and I couldn't be more over the moon with my guy! Yay for brokens, and red Rex! I will never be able to thank Georgia's Farm and Rabbitry in FL enough for him and my start to reds.

Chunky, a tort Holland Lop doe out of Proud Ears rabbits (going back to Lund's, Critter CoOp, and Camelots) who was gifted by a good friend went on to snag two Best Opposite S*x of Breeds, and won her solid class several times with lots of nice comments by all the judges. She was a little immature at the last show in Pendleton, SC, but has definitely glowed up some since then.

Now, to attempt for babies out of her again and fingers crossed my Rex take when I breed Tennessee to my doe at the end of this month for some babies.

I also want to say congratulations to everyone else who showed up and took on some nice placements with their buns and represented their breeds! Also, above all else, THANK you to the judges who showed up and supported as well. Ya'll are phenomenal as always.

(After 5 shows over the course of two days, the buns were doneee showing off when it came to picture time and ready to go home, and I couldn't argue with that.)

Update on the little Holland buck gifted by a friend who's grand dam was a Nevaeh's doe (and it's not hard to see her resemblances!). Gooden Fluffy Hollands NC Fogo is starting to fill in to himself a little more. He's not quite a senior yet, and definitely has more filling out to do, but I'm thrilled to be venturing in to reds with this cutie.

**HOME FOUND**
Thank you everyone!

Neville is a 4 year old neutered Holland Lop buck seeking his new forever home! He's looking due to no fault of his own, or previous owner's. He is a SWEET, sweet boy who is super laid back and chill.

He loves to explore his environment, and is always curious of me when I pass by his cage door sitting there waiting. Neville was previously bonded with other rabbits, but they've since passed on and he's been by himself for a while. I do see the potential there that he might very well be able to be re-bonded to a female, or another neutered male. He has had some exposure to WELL behaved dogs, so they do not bother him.

Neville does excellent with being held, and having his nails trimmed. Do you think you could be his new forever home?

I will include the remaining of his supplies, including food to make the transition go well! He transitioned in here well and has done quite nicely in quarentine. Now it's time to put feelers out there for his new potential home!

How could you resist such a cute Holland face?

Located in Hope Mills, NC. Small adoption fee does apply.

I need to stay off FB when I don’t feel good. People make me cranky. 😑

Saw a rabbit post about breeding siblings. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with breeding full siblings as long as you’re willing to cull. If you aren’t willing to cull…well you shouldn’t be breeding anything period. Rabbits aren’t humans, they couldn’t care less if they’re related.

Line breeding isn’t a problem in rabbits because it only shows genes your rabbits already have hiding in their DNA. You can have those same genes show up in completely unrelated rabbits. It doesn’t create problems that aren’t already there, it only brings them out where you can see them and actually do something about them. I won’t buy from breeders who refuse to linebreed because it makes me think they know they have negative genes hiding in their lines and instead of fixing them, they want to just keep them from showing up in their barn so they can pretend they don’t have a problem.

People can do what they want in their own barns, but telling other people linebreeding is bad and it should never be done is just ignorance of how genes actually work. If the genes aren’t already there, they won’t show. End of story.

Breed the rabbits not their papers. Breed the best and eat the rest.

God, please no.

Look, I know people are well intentioned and all, but....
.. all you're doing is providing predators with a more well nourished meal.

I hesitate to ask this well meaning do-gooder what "food" they supplied them with... but... it's unlikely the transition will go well for this poor wild floof depicted.

Just 👏 leave 👏 them 👏 alone 👏

There is this thing called a FOOD CHAIN. In order to have life? There must be 💀. JUST STOP.

But, you know, in a world where we are so removed from our food, this will just be seen as "heartless".

As a breeder of almost 10 years....and as someone who *use* to do this for a short time, I learned my lesson early on that life isn't always promised. I RARELY deal with deposits these days unless it's a special case and or the baby is over 8-10 weeks minimum. I cringe at all the new breeders or pet breeders driven by the *attempt* to make a profit that do this.

What's this? More firey rabbits???

Welcoming GFHNC's Fogo from a good friend! He's just a youngin' (end of July baby) currently molting pretty seriously, but I cannot wait to watch him mature. He goes back to a cute broody homegrown of mine I raised up in 2021, named Skittles that seems to be doing very nicely for Gooden Fluffy Hollands NC. This boy also goes back to LapLops line, who do nice things with red in this breed.

I have as many bucks as I do does currently-- including a nice well put together clean black Holland coming from convention that carries chocolates so maybe I can get them rolling from my doe again and some handsome blacks 😂 No more coming in after that unless it's REX!

Been awaiting the arrival of a pair of red Rex for a little bit now. Credit to a good friend for bringing them all the way up from Florida for me! Quick video I took to send to my partner, one handed of course. Now I can resume my journey in Rex. If the Hollands keep this dry spell up, I might trade them all in for just Rex-- I've definitely thought about it off and on over the years 😂

Most of my prices on grooming have changed, after weeks of consideration and thought. The only price that will remain the same is nail trims, for future reference!

After Sunday, grooming prices will be as follows...

• Nail trims: 10 per critter (discounts on more than 3)
• Scent gland clean up (for rabbits): 5
• Brush outs/deshedding: 15
• Dematting/potential trim ups of standard rabbits: 20
• Teeth trims: 30
• Angora care (shave downs typically-- more time consuming): 30

If you have gotten a rabbit from me in the past, I have no interest in charging you for basic nail trims, but donations are always welcome 😂

A Note About Tattoos.... and why they are important.

Today someone sent me this post. If you're not from Wisconsin, Manitowoc is over 180 miles from Rud Ridge.

The clamp tattoo and unmistakable RR had me squinting at the picture. The following was hard to make out a bit, but I finally figured out it was RROB1 and one more character I couldn't read.

Pretty unmistakable that it was probably a rabbit that came from Rud Ridge.

So I looked in my records, did a little digging, and sure enough it was a rabbit I took with me last year to console Diesel's former owner when they gave Diesel to us since they couldn't keep him.

Come to find out, this rabbit had escaped about a month ago... and by some miracle she survived all that time.

I tell this story to say this: there is a reason tattoos are an absolute requirement, and this is one. Because the unmistakability of our tattoos in sequence and style got word back to me that this bun needed help to find her human. And though she was sent off as "just a pet" of course I was going to help.

So, if you're more on the pet side of the spectrum here, this is a story that shows we don't tattoo them just to be cruel, or just for show, or because of tradition.

If you haven't seen our blog post about tattooing, you can find it here:

Couple good examples of how loin carriage is different than spine shape and effects the overall topline look. And also why you should take a lot of pictures. The Harli has a really striking topline at 8 weeks old. Now she’s grown a whole lot of loin but she carries it very evenly from the start of the spine(right after the shoulders) to about the start of the hip and then starts to fall of quickly. The whole loin needs to move back so that the bulk of the loin is over the center of the hip.
The tri essentially stayed the same. Got a little longer in the midsection but her loin carriage is still predominantly starting mid back. The roundness you see here is because her spine shape is more round which you can see in the baby pictures.
Because the Harli actually does have a nice spine shape, I’ll try and breed her to a buck with better loin carriage. Probably my NZ 🙄
The tri will get bred sorta the same but more focus on spine shape with her and loin depth and fullness.

Edit: Our local Pet Supermarket is charging 300 for "Micro rabbits," so no, I genuinely don't feel horrible about my pricing, which is 100 for pet quality. I KNOW for a fact and from experience, Pet Supermarket themselves are known to also rehome underage rabbits. I've seen them have rabbits not fully weaned in the past that were dropping like flies in the display case, and when brought up, they blew it off.

This doesn't necessarily appear to be Pet Supermarket in the photo (could be wrong), but last I checked 2 years ago they were charging around 90. So this doesn't surprise me.

Mine are cheaper than this for pets, I can tell you their exact birthdates, breed, gender, and they're handled one on one daily. Also, I include transition feed for smoother transitions to new homes (ALL breeders should be doing such), which pet stores do NOT offer. So when you purchase there, it's a hard switch for the rabbit and more likely to throw it in to GI stasis/digestive upset which can often times be fatal for a younger animal and inexperienced owner.

Socializing 10 4-5 week old Holland Lops tonight/this morning. Brought them inside for some extra lovins, exposure, and grooming of baby coats, which is always fun. 🤣 Peeked at genders. I know I definitely have a few of each, but since most of these were out of test breedings, I will not make final calls on genders until a few more weeks from now. Seem to be rather buck heavy. (The black at the beginning and end are the same baby).

Any I have that will be available, will be ready once they reach 10 weeks of age this go round, since I'm planning to move in a different direction and most of the parents pairings were test breedings.
