Greenbrier Humane Society We are open 11 AM - 5 PM, Tuesday-Saturday. There is no appointment needed for adoptions. ADOPTION PROCESS:

1. Do you have any other animals in the home?
(265)

We post all available animals in the respective "Available Dogs" and "Available Cats" photo albums.

2. If you are interested in adopting an animal seen in one of those albums, stop by our facility during open hours. You may need to bring the children or pets that will be in the home so that their compatibility with the animal can be assessed and we can complete a meet and greet.

3. Our staff w

ill interview you to determine if you and that animal are a good fit for one another. Here at GHS, we aim to facilitate successful, lasting placements. As a result, you may be asked some or all the following questions:

Do you rent or own your home? Are there children in the home? Have you adopted an animal from a shelter before? What veterinarian do you use, and would you be willing to list them as a reference? Do you have a fenced yard? Do you have any prior experience with the breed you are seeking to adopt?

5. If our staff approves the match after the meet-and-greet, you will complete all requisite paperwork and pay the adoption fee. The adoption fee is $65 for cats and $85 for dogs. This fee covers a variety of procedures and treatments including:

Spay/Neuter procedure

Flea and tick treatment

Heartworm test

Rabies vaccine

FELV/FIV test

DHLPPC or FVRCP vaccines

6. You will take your animal to their new home! Many smiles are involved and sometimes even some happy tears!

Thank you everyone for your patience and working alongside us during such a challenging time. 2024 was the first time our facility has ever taken advantage of closing our doors to intakes due to having no kennel space. Although it has been challenging at times, it ensured that we were able to properly care for the animals in our facility. We are happy to announce we are finally in a place to be comfortable and open our doors for new-comers.

We do please ask that if you're planning on bringing an animal for intake, to give us a call to schedule your intake. This ensures that we have the space for the animal coming in. When we closed our doors, it was due to receiving 17 dogs in ONE day. This is why we kindly ask to schedule your appointment, to make sure we have adequate space for them! We are excited to help future residents of Greenbrier Humane Society and to continue to ❤

Reminding you that it is currently far too cold for pets to be left outside for extended periods of time.

Cold weather tips to remember-
🐾 Trips outside should be quick enough for a potty break and returning to the warmth. Keeping dogs on a leash will help discourage any unnecessary adventuring.
🐾 When they do go outside, consider putting a jacket, sweater with high collar, and/or booties on them to keep them warmer.
🐾 Always wipe the paws of your pets if exposed to areas with ice melts. It can cause blistering on paws and may contain chemicals that are dangerous if consumed.
🐾 Regularly check on any doggy doors or access your pet has for access to self regulate their outdoor time. These can quickly freeze up from the difference in temperatures from outside to inside.
🐾 Cats should be kept inside. If a cat is outdoors, it will seek warmth under the hood of a car. If you suspect a cat has had access to your garage or you park your vehicle outside, pound on the hood prior to starting your car.
🐾 If you provide shelter for outside stray cats, insulate the shelter with straw, not hay. Mylar blankets cut to size are also a great alternative. Avoid using conventional fabric blankets or towels, as they can absorb moisture and can make the interior cold.
🐾 This is also a good time to ensure chickens, goats, sheep etc have a proper amount of dry bedding to stay warm. While heat lamps do produce a good heat source, they are also with the most risk for fire in your coop. Alternatives such as hot water bottles and radiant flat panel heaters are a safer alternative for your friends.

Today's Animal All-Star is Bobo! He is a Pointer Pitt and is about 2 years old. He was very timid when he came into our facility, but in his short time here, he has come out of his shell! He is very energetic and enjoys a game of fetch (he'll even play fetch on his own, tossing his toy and running to get it!) He is very affectionate and happy, and even has a case of tail whip from how much he wags his tail. If you think this sweet boy may be a good fit for your home, give us a call at 304-645-4775 or stop by to meet him anytime Tuesday-Saturday 11-5. 🐾
