As many of you have already heard, Burns won the hound group at Westminster last night. Here is some info you might not know...

The first Dual Champion of any breed to win the group at Westminster. Beautiful CAN and DOES hunt.
Congratulations to GCHP DC Walmar-Solo's OMG SL JE on winning the Hound Group this evening at the Westminster Kennel Club show!

Burns was bred by Kimberly Ann Vidrine, Paula Carter and Wally & Mary Jones. He is owned by Theresa Nesbitt, Kimberly Vidrine, Jeanne Haverick, Audrey White and Patricia Grant. He is shown by Carlos Puig.

Burns is the ninth Dachshund to win the Hound Group at Westminster but only the second Longhaired to do so. [The first was his maternal great-great-grandsire CH Pramada's Curmodgeon L.] Smooth Dachshunds have been Group 1 at WKC five times although the last of those wins was in 1969! Wirehaired Dachshunds have won the Hound Group at WKC three times, the last of which in 2012 was also the last Dachshund WKC group win before Burns’ victory tonight.

Hip Hip Hooray, Team Burns ... good luck this evening for Best in Show! We want to see you break another record!

CRATE TRAINING:

It seems as though my post has stirred up a bit of unnecessary drama, so I thought I'd make a separate post about this. I've deleted several comments about the puppy being in the crate. We were at the vet, there's no way I could possibly carry 5 puppies into the vet. Nor could I have kept them all from roaming the vet's office while we were there. A vet is where sick animals often go to get better. Our vet is wonderful about keeping his office clean, but things happen, and I will never purposely compromise the health of our dogs or puppies. So, for this reason alone, I do not bring puppies into the vet without being crated. I hand them over one at a time during their exam, and the puppies are generally quite well behaved because they are introduced to the crate early on.

Crates are a safe place for dogs. Whether it's to keep them safe from chewing things up or eating things they shouldn't get to while they're unsupervised. It can be a place to get away from other dogs or animals when they're ready for peace and quiet, or simply to sleep.

It can also be a life saver for instances in which a dog becomes hurt or ill.

Example 1: I had a girl break her leg back in August. She somehow jumped off my bed and hurt herself on the dog ramp. She had to be crated for a minimum of 4-6 weeks to allow her leg to heal properly. Could you imagine forcing a dog to stay in a crate (other than to eat or potty) that wasn't accustomed to a crate at all?

Example 2: How about this instance.. I have a dachshund that hurt her back. She has full mobility, but she's sore. She is also on crate rest to allow herself time to heal. If she were not accustomed to a crate, she could potentially fight it, hurting herself worse. This crate is potentially saving her right now, preventing her from hurting herself worse.

Next time you see a dog in a crate, don't assume the worst. Assume that the owner is creating a safe haven for their dog, or protecting their puppies.

Many of you will notice, we have changed the name of our page. There's no big change, but notable, none the less.

As you know, I have taken the successful leap into showing many of my own bred-by dogs. The pre-fix we use is "CoRoDach's", as it's far shorter and easier to use, quite frankly. I felt it made more sense to use it everywhere as to not create confusion, and simply so we can be found easier.

Thank you for all of the support. I can honestly say that this is just the beginning.

Red male, Sophie and Flare, longhair miniature. He will be available on December 28th.

I will absolutely hold my puppies until the first of the year if you have vacation plans and such. It's a very stressful time to put a young puppy into a home during the holidays, and I refuse to sell puppies for Christmas morning.

These puppies started their life using ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation), and we use many of the Puppy Culture protocols to raise our puppies. They are almost weaned and already using the litter box, so we will now begin crate training.

We require an approved application and a $250 non-refundable deposit. The balance due upon pickup will be $750. I will relinquish their papers after they are spayed/neutered. They will be vaccinated twice, dewormed several times, and microchipped.

Application can be found her: www.countryroaddachshunds.com/application
